My understanding is that each list from this point on will have its own thread in the subforum. Carl locked the other thread to make way for the new forum. So we are in some sort of limbo right now. But feel free to make a comment here if you'd like. Old Fitty is probably sleeping right now...he'll never know the difference.

I'm not too sure what to say, except that we should all feel very pleased at the success of our Top Ten thread. Five and a half thousand views and twelve hundred replies in a relatively short time attests to that. Carl and the Moderators have now given it a prize spot as a Sub-Forum. All of you who have nominated and voted are to thank for this. I just tally up the votes and report the outcome; I'd have none to tally without you.

:headphones:

Those of you who've read the Album Reviews Sub-Forum will understand how it works. Basically, as Peaches said, each Top Ten will be a separate thread in our Sub-Forum.

The old thread is still accessible for information purposes, and don't forget Farin's ARCHIVES. Everything is detailed there, together with a new feature by our Graphic Designer, Judo.

Finally, I'd just like to thank Carl and all who supported him - the original suggestion came from Elvish - in elevating our Top Ten to this new level !

2. BROWN EYED GIRL - VAN MORRISON 1967

3. FIRE AND RAIN - JAMES TAYLOR 1970

4. LOSING MY RELIGION - R.E.M. 1991

9. MY GENERATION - THE WHO 1965

10.RAINY NIGHT IN GEORGIA - BROOK BENTON 1970 *

* It was written and performed by Tony Joe White a little before that, but I think we should use the year it first charted, early 1970.

.................................................

I think that's a Great Top Ten. Lots of Classics there.

Four 60s, four 70s, two 90s. What's wrong with the 80s ?

I'll put on the full List of Nominations and all points gained later.

The Top 6 were pretty clear cut, but #s 7,8,9 had to be decided by Tie-break (the ones most people voted for, even though the votes were equal). #10 was only one point behind and a heap of others close to it.

The Sound Of Silence was only the second song in our Top Tens to receive over 100 Points. Good nomination rt.

Good nominations by everyone ! I agree with c s that this is one of our best Top Tens, and lots of great songs still missed out!

Just an honorary M for this thread edna. I hang out here a lot. :)

Yes, I like all of them too ! One of our sons used to play R.E.M. quite a bit, so I know a few of their songs.

LET'S DECLARE NOMINATIONS FOR TOP TEN #10 OPEN !!!

Bring on your Beatles, Stones, Barry Manilow, Michael Bolton, whoever.

I will just give my opinion again that I believe multiple nominations for the same Artist/s divide his/her/their votes !

So if you nominate a Beatles/Stones song I won't Edna.

Hey 55,

Sorry about the 'Sitting In Limbo' title. I'd already changed titles three times before you got out of bed.

It went from 'How does this work?' to 'Songfactors Choice Top 10'. Then I got worried that would confuse things and I saw Peaches' mention of Limbo, and changed to 'Limbo Rock' (after the Chubby Checker song -- I considered 'Limbo Rockism' but came to my senses). I then decided I preferred the Jimmy Cliff song and hence the 'Sitting In Limbo'.

Anyway I see some hotshot moderator has straightened it all out now.

-----------------------------------

bazooka is ashamed to admit it, but before Top Ten #9 I had no idea She's Gone was by Hall & Oates. I guess I thought it was probably Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes.

Hall & Oates really produced a diverse repertoire. There's a lot H&O songs make me stop to think and remember that they were the artists.

I think part of their success has to do with what Dr. John had to say about "the records that makes it in" on an obscure album track which I believe is called Keep The Music Simple . I've tried to locate the lyrics, but no dice so far.

Hey Edna, You took my song/nomination !

:) No probs, no harm done. You will surely get my vote for Otis's (Sittin' on) the Dock of the Bay

My two nominations for Top Ten # 10 are :

- Oh Carol - Neil Sedaka

- Simply the Best - Tina Turner

I do hope at least one makes it to the Top Ten
