TheTallOne Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 1. The beginning sounds a lot like "Mary Jane's Last Dance." 2. Although not intentional, the "who knew" part sounds like Fall Out Boy's "Dance Dance" 3. The solo is definentaly sampling "Purple Haze" Just wanted to post this and put it out there.
Levis Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 I love the Chili Peppers. They are cool. Uh, no... they are chili peppers, so they have to be hot. But they're still cool.
blind-fitter Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 They tick many of the right boxes for a truly phenomenal rock band. However, they have never, ever moved me in any way at all.
SoulGirl Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 i think the opening riff sounds like something else but i only realised that while half asleep this morning so i'll have to hear it again before i remember what! i've seen them live twice - the first time i thought they were amazing and really enjoyed it! the second time they came on after the pixies so it was a total anti-climax and we left before their set ended. i like them alot but they've gone from a cool edgy rock band to the kind of band you listen to standing there, singing melodiously along with every word and holding hands with your boy/girlfriend. not quite as cool as they used to me but one of the best around nonetheless!
Batman Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 I like the Chilis, but I think it's funny when people consider them a real funk band.
Danielj Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 (edited) they were pretty funky back in the day, definetly not pure funk, but they had a bit of it. Lately their stuff is nothing funky. I'm talking about Freaky Styley etc Seems as if they like california Edited May 9, 2006 by Guest
jman14141414 Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 1. The beginning sounds a lot like "Mary Jane's Last Dance." So VERY true, it always sounded like something I knew, but could never put my finger on it. 3. The solo is definentaly sampling "Purple Haze" That or the John Frusciante somehow managed to make it sound exactly like Purple Haze.
Earth-Angel Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I hate to admit it, but I am finding their newer stuff (besides Fortune faded) very samey and bland in comparison to the tunes they were spitting out in the 90's. Californication was the last good album for me.
Carl Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 I really dig the Chilis and think Dani is great. To me, they're one of the more underrated bands and have amassed a tremendous arsenal of great songs. I'm a big fan of that Funk sound with heavy bass and lyrics that flow over the beat. Great observations about the song. I did get a strange sense that I'd heard parts of it before, but I thought it was from Phantom Planet's "California."
TheTallOne Posted May 9, 2006 Author Report Posted May 9, 2006 That or the John Frusciante somehow managed to make it sound exactly like Purple Haze. That's what I meant.
skeeballpickuplines Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 The Chili Peppers rock. Stadium Arcadium is a great album, and I'm trying to get tickets for their upcoming tour.
TheLizard Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Stadium Arcadium is definitely the best album that RHCP has released since Blood Sugar Sex Magik. I actually thought that the opening riff to Dani California somewhat resembled Sweet Home Alabama's opening riff, but maybe I'm just crazy.
SoulGirl Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 i remembered - i think it resembles blur - country house, but mainly because of the rhythm! still like the song alot though!
