Neither of them, 55, but that phrase The show must go on is part of the lyrics. It's a mid 60s song.

Must be about a clown. I'll have to think about this. Could that be "broken in two"? I won't Google the lyrics though. I refuse to resort to that.

I recall there was a spoken portion of a Beatles song (other than Yellow Submarine's ambience-like accoutrements) when Paul says, "You know my name, just dial up my number ..." or soemthing to that effect. Don't remember the name of the song. Believe it was on the White album.

I wish I'd seen this before Dappled (been watching TV - can't miss LOST).

I'm not sure, but I think it might be either Leo Sayer or Freddie Mercury/Queen, The Show Must Go On ??

This is One Clown Cried from The 4 Seasons' Working My Way Back to You-album. Frankie Valli did the talking (and singing, of course).

Let's not forget "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie. Another one that always makes me smile. :)

Yes that makes me smile too, it was a family Thanksgiving staple for us, along with the turkey.

Uneasy Rider ~ Charlie Daniels....That makes me smile. :)

oh wow S2V, you just reminded me of another one that always makes me laugh -

"The Streak" by Ray Stevens

(Reporter):

Hello, everyone, this is your action news reporter with all the news

that is news across the nation, on the scene at the supermarket. There

seems to have been some disturbance here. Pardon me, sir, did you see

what happened?

(Witness):

Yeah, I did. I's standin' overe there by the tomaters, and here he

come, running through the pole beans, through the fruits and vegetables,

nekkid as a jay bird. And I hollered over t' Ethel, I said, "Don't look, Ethel!"

But it was too late, she'd already been incensed.

(Chorus)

Here he comes, look at that, look at that

There he goes, look at that, look at that

And he ain't wearin' no clothes

Oh, yes, they call him the Streak

Look at that, look at that

Fastest thing on two feet

Look at that, look at that

He's just as proud as he can be

Of his anatomy

He goin' give us a peek

Oh, yes, they call him the Streak

Look at that, look at that

He likes to show off his physique

Look at that, look at that

If there's an audience to be found

He'll be streakin' around

Invitin' public critique

(Reporter):

This is your action news reporter once again, and we're here at the gas

station. Pardon me, sir, did you see what happened?

(Witness):

Yeah, I did. I's just in here gettin my car checked, he just appeared

out of the traffic. Come streakin' around the grease rack there, didn't

have nothin' on but a smile. I looked in there, and Ethel was gettin'

her a cold drink. I hollered, "Don't look, Ethel!" But it was too

late. She'd already been mooned. Flashed her right there in front of

the shock absorbers.

(Chorus)

He ain't crude, look at that, look at that

He ain't lewd, look at that, look at that

He's just in the mood to run in the nude

Oh, yes, they call him the Streak

Look at that, look at that

He likes to turn the other cheek

Look at that, look at that

He's always makin' the news

Wearin' just his tennis shoes

Guess you could call him unique

(Reporter):

Once again, your action news reporter in the booth at the gym, covering

the disturbance at the basketball playoff. Pardon me, sir, did you see

what happened?

(Witness):

Yeah, I did. Half time, I's just goin' down thar to get Ethel a snow

cone. And here he come, right out of the cheap seats, dribbling, right

down the middle of the court. Didn't have nothing on but his Keds.

Made a hook shot and got out through the concession stand. I hollered up

at Ethel, I said, "Don't look, Ethel!" But it was too late. She'd

already got a free shot. Grandstandin', right there in front of the

home team.

(Chorus) (Witness):

Oh, yes, they call him the Streak

Here he comes again.

Look at that, look at that

Who's that with him?

The fastest thing on two feet

Ethel? Is that you, Ethel?

Look at that, look at that

What do you think you're doni'?

He's just as proud as he can be

You git your clothes on!

Of his anatomy

He's gonna give us a peek

Oh, yes, they call him the Streak

Ethel! Where you goin'?

Look at that, look at that

Ethel, you shameless hussy!

He likes to show off his physique

Say it isn't so, Ethel!

Look at that, look at that

Ethelllllll!!!

If there's an audience to be found

He'll be streakin' around

Invitin' public critique

Looks like my link didn't work, but I wanted to let you know there is Songfacts information available for You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) by The Beatles.

Save My Child - Willie Dixon

off the Ginger Ale Afternoon soundtrack

How many times

Have your poor heart suffered

The miseries of torture and pain

All just because of this poor understanding

Of the great gift of love

That God gave to man

Anyone know Loving You Has Made Me Bananas by Guy Marks ?

There's a long spoken intro to set the romantic scene before he goes into the lyrics....

OH, YOUR RED SCARF MATCHES YOUR EYES *

YOU CLOSED YOUR COVER BEFORE STRIKING

FATHER HAD THE SHIPFITTER BLUES

LOVING YOU HAS MADE ME BANANAS

OH, YOU BURNT YOUR FINGER THAT EVENING

WHILE MY BACK WAS TURNED

I ASKED THE WAITER FOR I(O)DINE

BUT I DINED ALL ALONE...........

* My favorite line. :laughing:

When this subject first came up, I couldn't think of anything in the vinyl or music CD collection that qualified. Then I remembered Roger McGuinn's "Chestnut Mare," a nearly final hit by The Byrds before they folded into history. That has Roger singing about chasing a wild horse and alternating with a spoken "you are there with me" segment, followed by more action. (A rattlesnake spooked horse and rider, so the chase continues.) :headphones:

Chestnut Mare is a great song, much because of the spoken parts. I like songs that tell a story. One of my favourites is Procol Harum’s Whaling stories; great lyrics by Keith Reid partly spoken by Gary Brooker and fantastic guitar work by Robin Trower. One of their best songs.

"This following program is dedicated to the city and people of San Francisco, who may not know it, but they are beautiful, and so is their city. This is a very personal song, so if the viewer cannot understand it, particularly those of you who are European residents, save up all your bread and fly Translove Airways to San Francisco, USA, then maybe you´ll understand the song, it will be worth it, if not for the sake of this song, but for the sake of your own peace of mind"

Eric Burdon talking in the intro to San Fransiscan Nights. You get the impression it was meant to be on a video.

Who sang about Translove Airwaves??

The opening of Tony Joe White's

Polk Salad Annie

If some of ya'll never been down South too much...

I'm gonna tell you a little bit about this, so that you'll understand

What I'm talking about

Down there we have a plant that grows out in the

woods and the fields,

looks somethin' like a turnip green.

Everybody calls it Polk salad. Polk salad.

Used to know a girl that lived down there and

she'd go out in the evenings and pick a mess of it...

Carry it home and cook it for supper, 'cause that's about all they had to eat,

But they did all right...

Eric Burdon talked a lot on his records, for example on the Animals' first LP Story of Bo Diddley.

On their third album, Animalisms, which is their best IMO, he says at the beginning of One Monkey Don't Stop No Show:

You know I got a letter from a friend of mine

In Newcastle-Upon-a'Tyne the other day

He said to me "Eric I heard you've been havin' some trouble down in the smoke with the girls"

He said "You wanna catch that flyin' Scotsman

back up here to Newcastle, 'Cause we've got enough females to go around up here

And I can figure you can find yourself a little somethin'

And because people around here don't go away stealin' each others loved ones away from one another,

Like they do down there in the smoke"

He also said in the letter that, ah,

(and the singing starts)

Things don't happen like that here on Tyne...

Great song!! Like many on that album: Maudie, Gin House Blues, I Put a Spell On You, Outcast,...
