Pixie
Hopefully, one of you will be able to help me with this question. I just finished reading the lyrics to "Your Love" by The Outfield. I've always known that the song was about a guy trying to get an old girlfriend to sleep with him while his current girlfriend is away. However, is it my imagination or do the lyrics seem to be a dialogue between this guy and the girl he wants to bed? It seems to go back and forth from each person's perspective - from the initial request to after the deed is done when he says, "As you leave me, please would you close the door?" Thanks for your help.
Tenacious_Peaches
Welcome to Songfacts, Pixie. I love, love, love this song! Click here for the Songfacts about the song. I can see where it might be a conversation between the two, but I am easily influenced. I may just be reading into it because you mentioned it. Here are the lyrics for further interpretation: Josie's on a vacation far away Come around and talk it over So many things that I want to say You know I like my girls a little bit older I just wanna use your love tonight I don't wanna lose your love tonight I ain't got many friends left to talk to No one's around when I'm in trouble You know I'd do anything for you Stay the night, we'll keep it under cover I just wanna use your love tonight I don't wanna lose your love tonight Try and stop my hands from shaking Something in my mind's not making sense It's been awhile since we've been all alone I can't hide the way I'm feeling As you leave me please would you close the door And don't forget what I told you Just cause you're right, that don't mean I'm wrong Another shoulder to cry upon I just wanna use your love tonight I don't wanna lose your love tonight Yeah I just wanna use your love tonight I don't wanna lose your love tonight Lose your love (3x)
Shawna
mmmm... I never got the conversation thing from that song. Sounds to me like he's doing all the talking and she's just there to give someone to talk to and a shoulder to cry on, before the old hokey pokey. But... as with most everything outside of math, it's pretty much up to individual interpretation, I think.

Uncle Joe
I'm a little confused. Is it a duet? Like Hey Paul by Paul and Paula? Huh?
Sweet Jane 61
It's interesting how we all interpret songs, and that is cool. That is why songs and music mean so much to us.
Shawna
I'm a little confused. Is it a duet? Like Hey Paul by Paul and Paula? Huh? Uncle... it's not a duet as recorded by the Outfield. Pixie thinks it sounds like it should be, tho...
Pixie
Yes, I know. I know. My thought processes are definitely on the unusual side. Still, it was interesting to put the idea out there, so to speak.
