Cyndi Lauper

Recommended Posts

Last night I was watching VH1 Classic and they had on a Cyndi Lauper concert. She sang with Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver), Pat Monahan (Train), Ani DiFranco, Shaggy and The Hooters. It was a good reminder of why I was a fan of hers in the '80's and her voice still kicks major booty!

So, in this thread we can discuss her, her music, and if anyone else is a fan, maybe recommend some albums and songs for the younger generation.

I love Cyndi because she went against the grain, she's wacky and has a most unusual pitch to her voice. She was the epitome of 80's punkypop chick for me - I loved her more when she sang for The Goonies.

I love you more because you loved her more for singing about The Goonies. They never die, you know.

I think she's a much better singer than the work she's known for. She actually has a really great voice. And think about what she did for the career of Captain Lou Albano.

"Time After Time " -- ( sniff ) ,-- Bugger off ! I'm not crying ! ( sniff ) --Allergies...Spring after all ...

Which was written for her, as was most of that album, by the Hooters. Glad to see, UncleJoe, there's more than just me who remembers them! :)

Eric Bazillian, one of the main songwriters of the Hooters was also nearly singlehandedly responsible for the career of Joan Osborne, having written What if God Was One of Us for her. :)

We interviewed The Hooters - Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian. They were a big part of the sound for her first album, doing production, instruments and songwriting. Check out:

Time After Time

All You Zombies

One Of Us

And, we interviewed Billy Steinberg, who wrote True Colors

Since we have big casinos here in Connecticut, I got Sara tickets to see Cyndi perform while I played blackjack (this was, of couse, when we were still together *sniff*). Sara and her friend raved about how Cyndi had so much energy, a great voice, and really connected with the audience. I had the equivalent of the bird pooping in my mouth at the blackjack table.
