Dawn21790
I'm trying to put a cd together of songs for a friend of mine. She's moving next month, and starting Grad school. I'd like to have a mix of upbeat-roadtrip songs. Maybe some: things will be ok/starting over/good change, type of songs. Any suggestions?
beatleant
The first one that came to mind is Warrant's "Letter to a friend." I'm gonna do a search for the lyrics ... be a sec ... okay, got it ... Letter to a Friend by Warrant I'm alive and you're alive And don't we both deserve to be happy We realize we're not the same So no one here should take away the blame It's okay to walk away And live to love another day This is not a fiarytale This is life and sometimes life fails CHORUS Thought I'd let you know Just before you go It's alright Make your brand new start But keep me in your heart And you'll be fine That's reality As water flows beneath the bridge We're learning how to forgive As milk spreads out across the floor We both agree it's not worth fighting for Repeat Chorus BRIDGE Nothing's perfect except God and a California sunset We're not perfect It doesn't mean we're bad There's a place in the sun for everyone You just got to find it I wish you luck with yours I have to go and find mine * * * * * This is from their '96 release, 'Belly To Belly - Vol. 1' and yep, I own it. However, it's not as good 95's 'Ultraphobic.' Although Warrant has been labelled "Hair-Metal," it's true for their first couple of releases but that's all. They started to really rock (of course, with a few ballads thrown in for good measure). I just realized, I'm ramblin' on that has nothin' to do with the original post I'm a retart. Jimmy1104
The obvious choice for me would be The Carpenters "For All We Know".
bazooka
The absolute obvious choice is New Beginning by Tracy Chapman (It is Tracy Chapman so maybe not quite "upbeat", but positive anyway).
Jenny
Hi Dawn: A friend of mine left for a new job last year, so when we took her out to say Goodbye, I played "Already Gone" by the Eagles on the Jukebox

High Hopes - Pink Floyd Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young In a world of magnets and miracles Our troughts strayed constandly and without boundary The ringing of the division bell had begin Along the long road and on down the causeway Do they still meet there by the cut There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps Running before time took our dreams away Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground To a life consumed by slow decay The grass was greener The light was brighter With friends surrounded The night of wonder Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again Dragged by the force of some inner tide At a higher altitude with flag unfuried We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world Eneumbered forever by desire and ambition There?s a hunger still unsatisfied Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon Though down this road we?ve been so many time The grass was greener The light was brighter The taste was sweeter The nights of wonder With friends surrounded The dawn mist glowing The water flowing The endless river Forever and ever

Brian
"..Some dreams live on in time forever Those dreams, you want with all your heart And I'll do whatever it takes Follow through with the promise I made Put it all on the line What I hoped for at last would be mine If I could reach, higher Just for one moment touch the sky From that one moment in my life I'm gonna be stronger Know that I've tried my very best I'd put my spirit to the test If I could reach Some days are meant to be remembered Those days we rise above the stars So I'll go the distance this time Seeing more the higher I climb That the more I believe All the more that this dream will be mine If I could reach, higher Just for one moment touch the sky From that one moment in my life I'm gonna be stronger Know that I've tried my very best I'd put my spirit to the test If I could reach If I could reach, higher Just for one moment touch the sky I'm goona be stronger From that one moment in my life I'm gonna be so much stronger yes I am Know that I've tried my very best I'd put my spirit to the test If I could reach higher If I could, If I could If I could reach Reach, I'd reach, I'd reach I'd reach' I'd reach so much higher Be stronger" I am sure you have heard this song before? It's "REACH" by Gloria Estefan. A very good song for the situation. I have some more songs suggestions for you that I am trying to track down now. Unfortunately, after just now downloading the song Reach I can honestly say all other suggestions are NOT going to top this song. Give it a listen! audioslave
Fleetwood Mac's Rumors is all about starting over , starting new lives - this is one of my favorites: Don't Stop by Christine Mcvey If you wake up and don't want to smile, If it takes just a little while, Open your eyes and look at the day, You'll see things in a different way. Don't stop, thinking about tomorrow, Don't stop, it'll soon be here, It'll be, better than before, Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone. Why not think about times to come, And not about the things that you've done, If your life was bad to you, Just think what tomorrow will do. Don't stop, thinking about tomorrow, Don't stop, it'll soon be here, It'll be, better than before, Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone. All I want is to see you smile, If it takes just a little while, I know you don't believe that it's true, I never meant any harm to you. Don't stop, thinking about tomorrow, Don't stop, it'll soon be here, It'll be, better than before, Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone. Don't you look back, Don't you look back. Brian
A similar song to Gloria Estefan's 'Reach' is "Faith of the Heart" by Rod Stewart. Other songs to consider are: "Burn" by Jo Dee Messina "I'll Remember" by Madonna
