OLD 55
Thanks CeeCee and Kevin. I just don't want people getting discouraged when they see their favorites miss out. Toss this one around then. Two new nominations per person PLUS they're allowed to re-nominate ONE they have nominated before which missed out. The only drawback there is that it would be a BIG list. Anyway, I'm happy just to keep going the way we are, but always open to suggestions. Angel, if you're online soon, please give us your #3 song. 1) Tainted Love - Soft Cell 2) Drive - The Cars 3) 4) Forever Young - Alphaville 5) Heart Shaped Box - Nirvana 6) How Soon is Now - The Smiths 7) White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane 8) Love Hurts - Nazareth 9) Low Rider - War 10) Starman - David Bowie
_Laurie_
I can't even remember what I've nominated or not, or what has been in the top ten or not, or what I'm gonna put in or not...
OLD 55
Yes that's another drawback Laurie. It'd mean going back through a lot of pages. I didn't think of that ! OK scratch re-nominating "yours". IF we would like a "Renomination Top Ten" I'll go back and cut and paste all the nominations that didn't make it into one list. Shawna
Thanks, Edna! One of my faves of all time and I must not be alone in that This is my third time nominating and both the songs made it. Must be the charm Sadly, that song is a not so good memory for me... it was the song we danced our first dance to at our wedding in '88. I can't hear that song without thinking of that. bazooka
Not necessarily your all time favorite songs, but ones you like currently. I like to see people putting up more and more good tunes - they remind me of songs/artists I haven't thought of recently and sometimes inspire the next picks . Two Cents From bazooka Dept I try to nominate songs that aren't radio staples, the slightly irregular stuff that you don't hear so often. It is interesting to see if other folks enjoy them as well, but I haven't cared much where they may fall on the list*. I pick my Ten as if they were the next music I will hear today -- based on the particular songs rather than the artists. ---------------- *I haven't "scored" yet. CanAm
My musical tastes run so much different from you all's, I guess. At least I'm unique Don't feel bad, Shawnna. None of my nominations has made the top 10 either. Considering how many great songs have been submitted, I'm not surprised that it is quite difficult for nominated songs to make the final cut. We'll just have to keep plugging away. Sooner or later, one of our songs will make it. :guitar:
Steel2Velvet
I stay true to my personal favorites, be they radio-aired or otherwise, and just remind myself weekly of all the great, great music that is out there. Making the top ten is not a goal, but a pleasant surprise. I understand few people have a music taste that could be considered "mainstream." OLD 55
Good discussion. Thanks everyone for your input and kind words. I don't think any of us nominate a song just to get it to #1, but it's pleasing when it does. It would be very hard to forecast anyway. Look at the 5 that we've had so far: My Sharona - The Knack Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd Hush - Deep Purple In My Life - The Beatles Only My Sharona and Hush were commercially successful as singles, but the others are great Album tracks (maybe singles also in some countries). Really I think we get a great balance in our Top Ten. I acquire most of the ones that are nominated which I don't know, and I find I've got a whole new playlist! However I'm still a "Pop" person at heart. The main thing is that we have fun. I know I do.
OLD 55
I wanted to make a separate post of this. A great idea from Bluesboy ! hey Old 55, probably after 10 weeks, each poster will have chosen enough music to fill out a cd's worth of music. We should track list our selections to show each other our individual tastes in music. I think that will prove a very interesting exercise ! I'll certainly participate in it. Thanks John.
