Tenacious_Peaches
Would I Lie To You - The Eurythmics Burnin' Up - Madonna Jenny, I think we were seperated at birth. I love those songs. "Burnin' Up" is the most wonderful, terrible song ever.

OLD 55
I'd say the next Top Ten will be very hotly contested. There's a lot of good songs nominated + a few that I don't know, which I'm seeking out. I really don't need to nominate any because I can see some of my favorites there already, but here's my two, one from the 50s and one from the 80s: You Send Me - Sam Cooke Make Me Lose Control - Eric Carmen
OLD 55
Aqualung - Jethro Tull Beds Are Burning - Midnight Oil Burnin' Up - Madonna Cecilia - Simon & Garfunkel Don't Bring Me Down - ELO Fooled Around And Fell In Love - Elvin Bishop Gimme Shelter - Stones I Can See Clearly Now - Johnny Nash I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor It's My Life - The Animals Jeremy - Pearl Jam Jessica - The Allman Brothers Band Just Like A Woman - Bob Dylan Just What I Needed - The Cars Let's Stay Together - Al Green Life On Mars? - David Bowie Lunatic Fringe - Red Rider Make Me Lose Control - Eric Carmen Me And Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin Midlife Crisis - Faith No More Night Moves - Bob Seger Overkill - Men At Work Rain Fall Down - The Rolling Stones Respect - Aretha Franklin Revolution - Beatles Rock and Roll - Led Zeppelin Silver Springs - Fleetwood Mac That's The Way Of The World - Earth, Wind and Fire Time For Me To Fly - REO Speedwagon Try A Little Tenderness - Otis Redding Tupelo Honey - Van Morrison Vasoline - Stone Temple Pilots Weight, The - The Band Well Respected Man, A - Kinks Wooden Ships - Crosby, Stills & Nash Would I Lie To You - The Eurythmics You Send Me - Sam Cooke You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC ................................................ Tenacious_Peaches
I inadvertantly tried to steal Edna's suggestion of "Try a Little Tenderness", so I will make a change to my suggestions... Let's Stay Together - Al Green Wooden Ships - Crosby, Stills & Nash I'd also like to remind everyone that we are trying to compile Songfacts for the following songs. Anything little fact you can think of would be great. Who wrote it, remakes of it by other artists, meanings behind it, movies or TV shows it's been in...anything at all would be much appreciated. Just think, if we get our favorite songs on the main site, maybe we can turn others onto our fabulous musical tastes. HIGHWAY STAR - DEEP PURPLE GOOD LOVIN' - THE RASCALS HERE COMES THE NIGHT - THEM
OLD 55
Because dear 55 wants some '80's nominations, he can count on me..I still turn the radio up when these come on: Would I Lie To You - The Eurythmics Burnin' Up - Madonna Thanks Jenny. It'll be great to have songs we've chosen added to the Songfacts data base.

It doesn't change the size of the graphics or the text, so you would see the posts exactly as you do now but you can scroll through more on one page. > click on: my fusion > click on: control panel > click on: display settings > change the number for "replies per page" to 50 or whatever you like. > click on: proceed at the bottom of the page. phil
Darryl, songfacts about Good Lovin' by the Rascals In 1965 Felix Cavaliere of the Young Rascals was listening to a New York "soul" station, when he heard the Olympics song Good Lovin'. The Olympics were a novelty/doo-wop group who had hits with Peanut Butter, Western Movies and Hully Gully. Good Lovin' was a minor hit for them. The Rascals liked it and played a sped up version at their live performances. They recorded the song for Atlantic Records, but did not like the outcome. But famed producer Tom Dowd loved the rawness of it and that version was released. It was a huge #1 hit in 1966. OLD 55
Gee thanks Brad ! It's like a whole new world; there's all sorts of things there I didn't know about. I didn't know you could set the time for a particular zone either. I always thought it was just set to a "standard" Songfacts site time. I've just set it to 50 now and that's going to make it much easier to edit Lists, not having to go back to previous pages. You're a beauty Mate. Thanks Batman, RT and CeeCee. I'll update the Noninations list soon. Looking good, isn't it ! Thanks Phil ! That's great. Peaches is going to add that info to the Songfacts Site. She'll be really pleased with that. edna
I inadvertantly tried to steal Edna's suggestion of "Try a Little Tenderness" No, no, no, Peachy... it was me who stole your idea, you reminded me of that great song in another thread. Next week I´ll suggest: "To love somebody", Bee Gees. "96 Tears", ? & the Mysterians. But I believe we still have to vote for the Top ten, don´t we, oldfif? OLD 55
"Rules" are always best when kept to a minimum, but how about - for the sake of variety - we don't nominate any songs that are currently in the Songfacts Official Daily or Weekly Top Tens. What do you think ? Aqualung - Jethro Tull Autobahn - Kraftwerk Beds Are Burning - Midnight Oil Burnin' Up - Madonna Captain Jack - Billy Joel Cecilia - Simon & Garfunkel Don't Bring Me Down - ELO Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz Fooled Around And Fell In Love - Elvin Bishop Gimme Shelter- Stones I Can See Clearly Now - Johnny Nash I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor It's My Life - The Animals Jeremy - Pearl Jam Jessica - The Allman Brothers Band Just Like A Woman - Bob Dylan Just What I Needed - The Cars Let's Stay Together - Al Green Life On Mars? - David Bowie Lunatic Fringe - Red Rider Make Me Lose Control - Eric Carmen Me And Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin Midlife Crisis - Faith No More Night Moves - Bob Seger Overkill - Men At Work Rain Fall Down - The Rolling Stones Respect - Aretha Franklin Revolution - Beatles Roadhouse Blues - The Doors Rock and Roll - Led Zeppelin Silver Springs - Fleetwood Mac That's The Way Of The World - Earth, Wind and Fire Time For Me To Fly - REO Speedwagon Try A Little Tenderness - Otis Redding Tupelo Honey - Van Morrison Unchained Melody - The Righteous Brothers Vasoline - Stone Temple Pilots Weight, The - The Band Well Respected Man, A - Kinks Wooden Ships - Crosby, Stills & Nash Would I Lie To You - The Eurythmics You Send Me - Sam Cooke You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC .................................................. OLD 55
But I believe we still have to vote for the Top ten, don´t we, oldfif? Dear Edna, we haven't closed the nominations for the current Top Ten yet. I'm like you - I have a page full of ones I'd like to nominate ! I was going to nominate "Drive" this week, but Katie put on another Cars' song "Just What I Needed" so I'll probably use it as one of mine next time. OLD 55
FOR DEAR PEACHES. More on the (Young) Rascals/ Good Lovin' : US #1, UK -. They were called The Young Rascals at that time. I should have shown that in the Top 10. Felix Cavaliere and the two other founding members Eddie Brigatti and Gene Cornish were formerly members of Joey Dee and the Starliters(Peppermint Twist). Dino Danelli joined the trio as their regular drummer shortly after. ................................................. Here Comes The Night / Them: US #24, UK #2. The song was written by U.S. songwriter/producer Bert Berns (A.K.A. Bert Russell) who also co-wrote Twist And Shout/ Isley Brothers, later covered by the Beatles and Hang On Sloopy/ The McCoys. He worked with Them and Lulu (To Sir With Love) in London in the early 60s. In fact Lulu's version of Here Comes The Night was the orginal, being released in late 1964. Them's was released 3 months later but quickly outsold Lulu's. BOTH versions were produced by Bert Berns and released on the SAME label, Decca. I'm sure Van Morrison is well documented in Songfacts, so we'll just say the Group was formed in Belfast 1963, and broke up in 1966 when Morrison went solo and went to work with Bert Berns in the U.S. (only briefly because Berns died in 1967). ................................................. Gee I've waffled there. Might be a couple of things you can use Peaches....Lulu doing the original version...written by the same guy who co-wrote Twist And Shout (as Bert Russell)and Hang On Sloopy. edna
I´d love to submitt some facts for "Highway Star" but I find strictly nothing. I was looking in some old magazines, reading the "Machine Head" reviews and some interviews with the band but no interesting facts...

Farin
I just read the songfacts to "Cecilia". There was claimed, that the song is about a cheating girlfriend, but I always thought this is too obvious to be right. In contract to the obvious interpretations of the song, the more likely interpretation is that the song is about the trials of writing music, how when faced with a creative roadblock the Muse Cecilia is absent, and how jubilant it is when the Muse returns. OLD 55
Please do post them Katie ! I'm very interested. I like the 10 minute version of "Cowgirl In The Sand". It sure is different to the other ones I've heard. We might re-nominate it again sometime ! Nothing to stop us doing that. Hi Edna and Farin. Levis
I'm not sure about this, but do you think you missed a song, OldFif? Because I counted 43 and I thought that you'd have them in an even number seeing that everyone is nominating two each.
