TheTallOne
I have about 40 dollars on my iTunes account and because most new music is pretty bad, I was wondering if anyone wanted to turn me on to some good songs that aren't popularized. Thanks!
Batman
You should listen to some songs by Neutral Milk Hotel. They are a terrific modern-ish band. Get all 11 songs from "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" and listen to them in order. It's a really amazing album. At times it's beautiful and folksy, at times it's fuzzy garage rock. You need to listen to the whole album for it to be good, though.
Jimmy1104
A band that I believe is not mentioned enough is Nazareth. Besides their power ballad Love Hurts, I think you will find alot of their songs to be better than good!
Batman
You really should check out Aeroplane, I didn't like indie music at all before listening to that album...now I realize it can be really cool and experimental and awesome!

Batman
Check out the song "M1A1" by the Gorillaz. The first 1.5 minutes are kind of weird, but the rest of the song kicks major amounts of ass if you listen to the first part.
Lucky
Connor, I'm taking it that you are fairly young? If so, there's gobs of stuff from the late 60's and 70's that I'm willing to bet you've never heard. Not your mainstream classic rock. There's lots more, that never gets airplay, that you wouldn't have heard. You can surf through these threads and find that. As an "older" (be nice ) person, two newer bands that I think have much the same sound of good old stuff are Los Lonely Boys, and The Scissor Sisters. You want way out of the mainstream stuff? Captain Beefheart. They could be likened to Zappa, but a little less weird and more musical.
