ThatGirl23
My dad is stricken with bone and liver cancer and doesn't have too much long to live. He is 86 and is the best father any daughter could ever have. He has always been there for me through thick and thin. All I want and can do for him now is to sing him a song from a daughter to her father. Any suggestions?
Jimmy1104
I edited the post as I misread the original post. I am trying to think of a most appropriate song along the lines of memories. There is also the song I have always liked when you want to tell someone you have always looked up to him or her. Here it is: The Wind Beneath My Wings It must have been cold there in my shadow To never have sunlight on your face You were content to let me shine that'Â’s your way You always walked a step behind So I was the one with all the glory While you were the one with all the strength A beautiful face without a name for so long A beautiful smile to hide the pain Did you ever know that youÂ’re my hero? And everything I would like to be? I can fly higher than an eagle For you are the wind beneath my wings It might have appeared to go unnoticed But IÂ’'ve got it all here in my heart I want you to know I know the truth of course I know it I would be nothing without you Did you ever know that youÂ’'re my hero? YouÂ’re everything I wish I could be I could fly higher than an eagle For you are the wind beneath my wings Did I ever tell you you're my hero? YouÂ’'re everything, everything I wish I could be Oh, and I, I can fly higher than an eagle For you are the wind beneath my wings Edited March 2, 2006 by Guest
Brad_M
Hi Mary, I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. I lost my Dad in 1999. He was 79. Here's 3 songs that I can think of for you: "You're My Hero" - Teresa James I would ride on your shoulders And look out on the world Pretending I was big and tall like you When you were there to hold me I never was afraid You made me feel there's nothing I can't do If I'd spread my wings to fly When I was very small I knew that you'd be standing by To catch me if I fall CHORUS You're my hero Chasing the monsters from my room Going on trips around the moon The one who's always been there faithfully You're my hero And 'cause you're my Dad... I'm twice as blessed and lucky to be me As I kept on growing We often disagreed But you let me find myself in my own way And it's funny, how just lately I've come to recognize How wise you are becoming every day There's so much you've given me I hope I've made you proud You're everything a Dad should be And it's time to tell you now You're my hero You didn't have to say a word Your love was the message that I heard Inspiring me to be all I can be You're my hero And 'cause you're my Dad... I'm twice as blessed and lucky to be me sound clip: "You're My Hero" - Teresa James -------------------------------------------------- "Because You Loved Me" - Celine Dion For all those times you stood by me For all the truth that you made me see For all the joy you brought to my life For all the wrong that you made right For every dream you made come true For all the love I found in you I'll be forever thankful baby You're the one who held me up Never let me fall You're the one who saw me through through it all You were my strength when I was weak You were my voice when I couldn't speak You were my eyes when I couldn't see You saw the best there was in me Lifted me up when I couldn't reach You gave me faith 'coz you believed I'm everything I am Because you loved me You gave me wings and made me fly You touched my hand I could touch the sky I lost my faith, you gave it back to me You said no star was out of reach You stood by me and I stood tall I had your love I had it all I'm grateful for each day you gave me Maybe I don't know that much But I know this much is true I was blessed because I was loved by you You were my strength when I was weak You were my voice when I couldn't speak You were my eyes when I couldn't see You saw the best there was in me Lifted me up when I couldn't reach You gave me faith 'coz you believed I'm everything I am Because you loved me You were always there for me The tender wind that carried me A light in the dark shining your love into my life You've been my inspiration Through the lies you were the truth My world is a better place because of you You were my strength when I was weak You were my voice when I couldn't speak You were my eyes when I couldn't see You saw the best there was in me Lifted me up when I couldn't reach You gave me faith 'coz you believed I'm everything I am Because you loved me I'm everything I am Because you loved me -------------------------------------------------- "There You'll Be" - Faith Hill When I think back on these times, And the dreams we left behind, I'll be glad cause I was blessed to get, To have you in my life, When I look back on these days, I look and see your face, You were right there for me. Bridge: In my dreams I've always seen you soar above the sky, In my heart there'll always be a place for you, For all my life, Chorus: I'll keep a part of you with me, And everywhere I am there you'll be, and everywhere I am there you'll be, Well you showed me how it feels, To feel the sky within my reach, And I always will remember all, The strength you gave to me, Your love made me make it through, Ohh I owe so much to you, You were right there for me. Bridge: In my dreams I've always seen you soar above the sky, In my heart there'll always be a place for you, For all my life, Chorus: I'll keep a part of you with me, And everywhere I am there you'll be, Cause I always saw you in my life, my strength, And I wanna thank you now for all the ways, You were right there for me, you were right there for me Always!! Bridge: In my dreams I've always seen you soar above the sky, In my heart there'll always be a place for you, For all my life, Chorus: I'll keep a part of you with me, And everywhere I am there you'll be, And everywhere I am there you'll be, There You'll Be

Sweet Jane 61
Holly Dunn ~ Daddy's Hands I remember Daddy´s hands, folded silently in prayer. And reaching out to hold me, when I had a nightmare. You could read quite a story, in the callouses and lines. Years of work and worry had left their mark behind. I remember Daddy´s hands, how they held my Mama tight, And patted my back, for something done right. There are things that I´ve forgotten, that I loved about the man, But I´ll always remember the love in Daddy´s hands. Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was cryin´. Daddy´s hands, were hard as steel when I´d done wrong. Daddy´s hands, weren´t always gentle But I´ve come to understand. There was always love in Daddy´s hands. I remember Daddy´s hands, working 'til they bled. Sacrificed unselfishly, just to keep us all fed. If I could do things over, I´d live my life again. And never take for granted the love in Daddy´s hands. Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was cryin´. Daddy´s hands, were hard as steel when I´d done wrong. Daddy´s hands, weren´t always gentle But I´ve come to understand. There was always love in Daddy´s hands. Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was cryin´. Daddy´s hands, were hard as steel when I´d done wrong. Daddy´s hands, weren´t always gentle But I´ve come to understand. There was always love ..... In Daddy´s hands. Peter
A few minor changes made. The red I'm was ,your MICHAEL BOLTON - "Daddy's Little Girl" You're the end of the rainbow, my pot of gold, I'm daddy's little girl to have and hold. A precious gem is what you are, A ray of hope, a shining star. You're the brightest of the sunshine Morning's first light You warm my day, you brighten my night You're sugar you're spice, you're everything nice, And I'm daddy's little girl. ThatGirl23
Thank you Jimmy, Brad, Earth Angel, Jane, and Peter for songs. Some of the songs I will record and sing them to my dad. Ever since I was 4 years old, my dad loved me playing the piano so this is the love and comfort I could give me before he goes to the place up above. Shawna
Holly Dunn ~ Daddy's Hands Holy crap, Jane. I was just thinking of this song, I logged into this thread to post it, and the very first words I see are yours above. Things that make you go "hmmmmm....." Mary, I am very sorry about your dad. Going through a sizable trauma with my mom right now has me appreciating just how precious our parents are. I think it's wonderful that there's enough love between you that you want to do something this special for him... my thoughts are with you. Mary, hon, I appreciate the tough time you're going through right now. Be strong, spend all the time you can with your Dad, and just let him know you love him. The time is important, and sharing memories. You'll always have them.
edna
It´s very sad when you lose your father or mother but it´s just life, they must go before we do. Just think of all the love and the happy moments you shared; I tried to see it that way when my dad died some years ago, and what he left was mainly calm and a very sweet feeling of what his life had been.Sure, you´ll miss him; but he will leave you a warm feeling. You will remember him with joy all your life if you get to see natural death from this point of view. My thoughts are with you.
Jenny
I know it's hard to see it this way, but you have a rare gift...the chance to tell someone goodbye and let them know what their life has meant to you. There are so many people who lose a loved one and the first thing they say is "I wish I could have said goodbye" You have that opportunity and it's good to see you seizing it. I can't really think of any songs better than the ones already suggested, but I wish you strength through this hard time
