edna
Would Leonard Cohen be considered as a classic? Cause I know Jefferson Airplane´s "White rabbit" or "Somebody to love", "Horses" by Patti Smith or Lou Reed´s "Transformer" are classics.
CanAm
To me, a classic song is one that sounds as original and vibrant today as it did when it was first recorded. IMO, the following songs are rock/pop classics: Night Moves - Bob Seger Heart Of Gold - Neil Young In My Life - The Beatles Wild Horses - The Stones Sultans Of Swing - Dire Straits Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac Daniel - Elton John Cherry Bomb - John Mellencamp These are just a few of the literally hundreds of songs I could name. _Laurie_
I love Gimme Shelter, by The Stones. Great guitar intro, Jagger's great vocals. But, the best part is Merry Clayton's vocal solo. It's just a great driving down the highway song. Good One!
_Laurie_
The Eagles' "Hotel California" is a timeless classic. No matter how many times I listen to this song...I will never, ever get tired of that great guitar solo...definitely a classic NH!
Peter
Picking "a song", what a task, except for a mood, for a moment. Pick your favorite snowflake. For this second I'll choose to Roll The With The Changes - REO Speedwagon :happybanana:

Absolutely agree! Last time I heard it was in Covent Garden at about 4am being played by a busker in a suit - it was absolutely fantastic! A timeless and classic song indeed. Steel2Velvet
Though everyone here might already be in the know, I just learned a classic fact: Van Morrison was the frontman for the 60's Irish band Them on their seminal recording "Gloria." What a great song and what a great career lay ahead for that lead singer!
Lucky
Ron for the longest time I thought it was a Van Morrison song.
Brad_M
The song was written by Van Morrison. It was released in 1965 by the group "Them", when Van Morrison was their vocalist. He was with the band from 1964 to 1966. The version you prolly remember and heard the most is Van's live recording of the song on his 1974 live release, "It's Too Late To Stop Now". Dappled
The Animals - I'm Crying The follow up to The House of the Rising Sun; pulsating rhythm, great singing and chorus, sounding different from anything else released at the time (1964 or so). Sweet Jane 61
Can't Get It Out of My head ~ ELO This is from the Eldorado album and a beatutiful ballad. Jeff Lynne's vocals are outstanding on this tune and the strings throughout just make the song over the top. Very moving lyrics. It was the first song to make it as a hit in the states for ELO, making it to number 9 in 1975. I will never get tired of this song.
RonJonSurfer
Good one Jane, now I CAN'T get it out of my head. I'm a sucker for Greatest Hit Compilations and Ole ELO is a fine one to listen to.
Sweet Jane 61
I played it last week for a buried classic and got a few calls thanking me for digging that one up. Just a great song and I miss ELO.
RonJonSurfer
I had front row seats to see them in Madison Square Garden back in the late 70's...warm up band Thin Lizzy. The sound ELO created live was quite amazing.
