_Laurie_ Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Neil's beloved Pontiac hearse, "Mort" (a.k.a. "Mortimer Hearseburg"), was the inspiration for this song. Neil drove "Mort" from Toronto to Los Angeles, where he met Stephen Stills and formed Buffalo Springfield. Neil was driving to Sudbury when 'Mort' broke down in Blind River, June 1965. (Which is contradictory to the lyrics; "well it was back in Blind River, in 1962, when I last saw you alive"). source: Songfacts I never knew what this song was about untill I looked it up. I can just imagine Neil cruising around in this, and then writing a song about it, how cool is that....I believe that it was a 1954 hearse...which back then they were also used as ambulances....they could be converted to be used as a hearse also....ironic combination, hearse/ambulance dontcha think?
_Laurie_ Posted February 5, 2006 Author Report Posted February 5, 2006 Neil is the coolest! I agree HD
