Sweet, Southern Woods

By: Jimmy Jazz

Walked into the woods, hoping never to come back

Never planning on seeing sun again

Hoping to be swallowed by our Mother Earth

To be washed to oblivion by the falling rain

Sweet southern woods, sing me to sleep

Warm mountain rain, mask all of my tears

Cold endless night, hide me from my life

May I never see the sun again

Found a fallen tree at the top of a hill

I climbed to take away my memories

Heard a voice call my name, calling from on high

Lord, I’m not too young to die

Sweet, Southern woods sing me to sleep

Warm mountain rain mask all of my tears

Cold endless night, hide me from myself

My I never see the sun again

Why have you forsaken me Lord?

Why have you left me lost

What is left to live for, Lord?

Why am I still here?

I asked him for a sign, anything will do

Wanted to see some proof that he was even there

I found it down below me, at the bottom of that hill

In the warm, loving eyes of a deer

Sweet, Southern woods save me from sleep

Warm, mountain rain take away my tears

Old endless night, help me find myself

My I live to see the sun again
