The Seeker
Suddenly a world ruled by atheists doesn't seem that bad Court Turns Down Challenge To Jury's Use Of Bible WASHINGTON, Apr. 20, 2009 (AP) The Supreme Court has turned away a challenge from a death row inmate in Texas who claimed his constitutional rights were violated by jurors who consulted a Bible during deliberations. Jurors reviewed a biblical passage relating that a murderer who used an iron object to kill "shall surely be put to death." They were deciding whether to impose a death sentence on Khristian Oliver for fatally shooting and bludgeoning his victim with the barrel of a gun. The court previously has said that jurors should base their verdicts only on evidence presented in the courtroom. But state and federal courts upheld Oliver's sentence, despite testimony that some jurors consulted the passage that described a killing similar to the one Oliver committed. The case is Oliver v. Quarterman, 08-833.
Shawna
Real quotes taken from real Christian forums. Certainly paints a scary picture of a world ruled by atheists "If I didn't have God to fear, I would have killed many, many times." Hmmmm... I don't have God to fear, and I haven't killed anyone. Nor have I ever really felt compelled to.
Farin
Walk it off, it’s only a heart attack In Italy, a doctor was performing a delicate brain surgery when he started to have a heart attack. Knowing his patient would not survive if surgery was stopped he nutted up and kept going. Think about that act of manliness next time you are complaining about your allergies. Levis
I don't think its that unusual - we already have toy guns, this is just half a gun.
Lea
That's true I guess and we do have paintball guns that can shot red paint. But you play a game with those. The gun in the ad makes a game of shooting yourself in the head. I guess a little kid might catch the fun of that. Or think whoever gifted them with was hinting at something

Levis
It's true! Guns have been toys forever I always thought whoever had that idea was a little twisted. Now someone comes up with half-a-gun and we're scandalised?
Shawna
I was referring to your question, Radhi, of shoot yourself or shoot someone else, what makes one worse. Maybe I missed something in translation, but that sort of shocked me.
The Seeker
I dunno... I think she has a point actually. It's both awful, stupid and pointless. Although I suppose if you;re stupid enough to shoot someone, you should be the one to pay for it.
Levis
I'd say shoot someone else is worse, but no one protests toy guns. 's normal to turn an object whose main purpose is to kill into a toy for children between 3 and 12 innit?
Lea
Not to belittle your opinion Levis but, there's a big difference between a child playing cowboys and Indians or cops and robbers with a toy gun and a so called toy they put to their head and pull the trigger. I played cowboys and Indians and I own guns. I don't think I could use a gun against a person and if I ever found myself in a position to have to do that, to save my child's life for example, I'm not sure that it wouldn't put me in a mental ward. I realise people over the pond think we're ok with just hauling out our guns and shooting people, but I think most U.S citizens feel like I do. I find that ad horrifying and I can't even begin to try to convey to you why. Maybe someone else can. It's just wrong on so many levels
Kevin
Although this item comes from China , I have seen this device available for many years now in Japan. It is a party game for adults rather than a toy for children. At a karaoke gathering or a company party or within a group of friends one may see such items . Japanese people tend to have a little difficulty just sitting and enjoying the company of others and chatting freely due to their social hierarchies and these kinds of things are similar to ice breakers to get the group all involved. Other 'silly' things include fake breasts, monkey suits , school girl/boy costumes, funny wigs, and the inevitable game of bingo . Drunkenness and the use of these party favors are to help make the event more memorable and fun for all and a chance to blow off steam which in normal circumstances would be rather taboo . The Japanese are big fans of slapstick comedy , and company parties sometimes resemble frat house hazing rituals in which the jr. members must humiliate themselves a bit for the enjoyment of the group . As one would suspect though , not all such gatherings include these ( though bingo is popular for all ) , and it depends largely on the sense of humor of the group involved . I haven't used that gun at a party and would fear permanent ear damage if one came out , however ! Edited May 4, 2009 by Guest
Levis
I realise people over the pond think we're ok with just hauling out our guns and shooting people, but I think most U.S citizens feel like I do. 'scuse me, I don't think toy guns are a solely US phenomenon, I'm fairly certain the concept is universal. I'm not talking about America and Kev says the dern thing is floating around Japan, so let's be more global here. Second of all: there's a big difference between a child playing cowboys and Indians or cops and robbers with a toy gun and a so called toy they put to their head and pull the trigger. A difference maybe, but a big difference? Really?
Lea
I will concede the first part of the statement to you Levis. Your most likely right. But the second part? There is a huge difference I couldn't even begin to try to convey. But, if you ever decide to become a parent, I don't think I'd need to try
Shawna
Although I understand your perplexity(?) about that, Levis, I think I know what Lea's talking about. In Cowboys and Indians/Cops and Robbers, etc. (at least when I was a kid - many many moons ago) it was more of a good guy chasing bad guy and locking 'em up. In a *ahem* game of this sort (the "roulette) it is akin to teaching a child to put a gun to their heads and pull the trigger. However - in typing the above, I realize now why you said what you said earlier about "killing yourself or someone else, which is worse" (paraphrasing - I don't remember the exact quote). Because in C&I or C&R, it could be akin to teaching kids to shoot at each other. Jeez, how in the hell has anyone ever survived to get old? Kevin
Good question ,Shawna . I want to stress again , though , that this NOT a toy for children and no responsible parent would give a child one to play with . If anything , it's like a parody of that game Christopher Walkin played in "The Deerhunter ". Remember , there are 30,000+ suicides a year here , and guns are rarer than snow leopards , so it's not seen in the same way as the West may view it .
