Strange, Weird and Wacky!

CHICAGO (AP) — For one day, at least, the roadrunner was safe. It seems the coyote was hankering for another kind of fast food.

Employees and customers at a downtown Chicago Quiznos sandwich shop were stunned to see a coyote walk through the propped-open front door Tuesday afternoon and lie down in a cooler stocked with fruit juice and soda.

"It wasn't aggressive at all," restaurant manager Bina Patel told the Chicago Tribune. "It was just looking around."

Employees and customers calmly cleared out of the restaurant, though some took the time to finish their sandwiches and snap some cell-phone photos, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Animal control officers took the passive coyote away after about 40 minutes, after a curious crowd had gathered outside.

"This one definitely I will definitely remember forever. A coyote in downtown Chicago," Quiznos employee Rick Torres told WLS-TV.

Go For Soda ~ Kim Mitchell

so we're in one of our blue moods

you wanna have it your way and I want it mine

all this debating going 'round in our blue mood

makes me thirst for love

Might as well go for a soda...Nobody hurts and nobody cries

Might as well go for a soda...Nobody drowns and nobody dies

life seems to be a bomb inside your head

well the bomb in my head is love

all this debating going 'round in our blue mood

makes me thirsty for love

Might as well go for a soda...Nobody hurts and nobody cries

Might as well go for a soda...Nobody drowns and nobody dies

Might as well go for a soda...It's better than slander

It's better than lies

Might as well go for a soda...Nobody hurts and nobody cries

 The biggest problem with the population explosion , too many ' geniuses ' in college et al , is that so many have to write Master's Or P.H.D Thesis which naturally have to go against the grain in order to be accepted or have any note . This is sad - as disinformation in the age of information will naturally become the norm . :P

Only 3 U.S. Presidents were not gay ( guess who ) - a little known fact but I've looked into it and so spread the word amongst your friends and be certain that the book is on the way ...

[big]Finger length can predict math, reading skills, researchers claim[/big]

[smaller]Sharon Kirkey, The Ottawa Citizen

Published: Thursday, May 24, 2007[/smaller]

Parents may be able to predict how well children will do in math and reading by measuring their fingers, British scientists claim.

The hormones in the womb that create good math skills also make a child's ring finger longer than the index, or pointing finger, say University of Bath researchers.

It's all due to the sex hormones, scientists say. A rush of recent research suggests finger length is an index of early prenatal exposure to testosterone -- and that everything from physical aggression in men to athletic prowess in women can be predicted by digit ratios.

The more testosterone, the longer the ring finger compared to the index, the theory holds.

But testosterone affects not only forefinger length, but also how the brain develops. The "male" sex hormone is thought to encourage growth in the right half of the brain, which is associated with spatial and math skills, while slowing development in the left hemisphere, the part of the brain that deals with language.

In a study published this week in the British Journal of Psychology, the researchers compared photocopies of the hands of 75 six- and seven-year-olds (33 boys and 42 girls) in the southwest of England and measured the length of their index and ring fingers on both hands using calipers that are accurate to within 0.01 milimetres. (For those planning to try this at home, researchers measured from the bottom crease of each finger to the central tip.)

Next, they divided the length of the index finger by that of the ring finger to come up with the child's "digit ratio."

Lead author Mr. Mark Brosnan, head of psychology at the University of Bath, says a person's digit ratio is pretty much set by age five. In the adult population, the average digit ratio for females is 1.0, meaning the index and ringer finger are of the same length. For males, the average digit ratio is 0.98, meaning the ring finger is slightly longer than the index. The British study showed the average digit ratio for boys was 0.95, and 0.96 for girls.

Overall, when the team compared the children's ratios to their scores on a nationwide set of numeracy and literacy tests, they found that children with a longer ring finger (and therefore greater exposure to testosterone in the womb) were better at math than language. Children who didn't have long ring fingers were better at language than math.

When they looked at girls and boys separately, the researchers found a link between high prenatal exposure to testosterone, as measured by digit ratio, and higher math scores in males. Meanwhile, girls with shorter ring fingers (meaning low exposure to testosterone) had better literacy scores.

Finger length is by no means a measure of intelligence or ability, Mr. Brosnan stressed.

"You may well look at a finger and say, all other things being equal, they may well have a leaning towards mathematics," Mr. Brosnan says. "Or if they have a child who has a digit ratio that suggests very good verbal skills and a struggle with mathematics, this might suggest that, to explain mathematics to that child, you use a lot of verbal strategies and you cut down on the graphical, visual information."

[big]RSPB bans cocks, tits allowed[/big]

3:45PM Monday June 04, 2007

Strange but true

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds has banned the word for male birds from its website, drawing accusations of political correctness gone mad.

Visitors to the website found the word "cock" had been replaced by asterisks, while the species, tit, suffered no such indignity.

Forum user John D, of Yorkshire, told The Sun: "As bird lovers will know, a Parus Major is a great tit and while cocks do not get past the forum censor, tits do not cause offence. I've heard of PC but that is taking things too far."

A worker claimed the word had been replaced because of software filters but an RSPB spokesman said it preferred to describe birds as either male or female.

[big]Man Uploads Episodes of '24', Faces 3 Years Jail[/bigger]

[smaller]Written by enigmax on June 04, 2007 Link[/smaller]

A man who uploaded four episodes of the hit series '24' to a YouTube-style video hosting site has been tracked down by the FBI and is now being threatened with 3 years in a federal prison.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the FBI, following a high-profile leak, Chicago resident Jorge Romero uploaded the first 4 episodes of this season’s ‘24′ to a YouTube-style site before it aired on TV and is now facing 3 years in jail.

The FBI claim that Romero uploaded the first 2 episodes on January 6, followed by the next 2 episodes on January 7 and posted hyperlinks on other websites to ensure that the maximum number of people could find and view them. Romero apparently confessed that he previously downloaded the episodes from another web site before uploading them to LiveDigital.com.

Romero’s identity was reportedly revealed after Fox TV owner News Corp sent a subpoena to LiveDigital demanding the uploader’s details.

An FBI spokesman said, “Romero is charged in the criminal complaint with uploading copyrighted material to a publicly accessible computer network knowing the work was intended for commercial distribution.â€

Fox TV put out a statement thanking the FBI for their work;

“We hope it will serve as a powerful warning that uploading copyrighted TV shows and movies to the Internet can be a crime with significant penalties and will be prosecuted as such. Video-hosting sites such as LiveDigital.com and YouTube are not copyright-free zones, and individuals like Jorge Romero who post episodes of television shows, particularly before they are even broadcast for the first time, will face harsh civil and criminal sanctions.â€

Uploaders of pre-release copyright material are targeted by the FBI as these actions are considered criminal in the US and usually carry a custodial sentence, which is great for headline-grabbing when trying to deter future pirates. However, it is up for debate whether or not these pre-releases actually have any negative effect on viewing figures. Indeed, just this week the President of Lions Gate movies said that even though their latest blockbuster ‘Hostel: Part 2″ was leaked onto the internet, it would have “no meaningful impact†on box office takings.

Mouse sex only lasts five seconds. (does this refer to cyber-sex?)

Giraffes have no vocal cords, the communicate with their tails. (I dated a girl like that once).

Polar bears are left-handed.(but right-pawed?)

A blue whales testicles are the size of a family car. (I've heard of that condition).

An oyster changes sex several times during its life. (How on earth can they afford that many trips to Copenhagen?)
