daslied Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 Across The Universe - David Bowie Blackbird - Dionne Farris (best cover ever)
Tenacious_Peaches Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 Blackbird - Dionne Farris (best cover ever) I love her voice, but I don't think I've heard that cover. I shall seek it out immediately.
daslied Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 It does what a good cover should, and that's take the song in a completely different direction. I typically can't stand Beatles covers, because really, what's the point? But there are a few that are cool interpretations.
phil Posted January 31, 2006 Author Report Posted January 31, 2006 I've always liked I Am The Walrus by Spooky Tooth.
_Laurie_ Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 wow, I've never heard that version phil...I bet it's good....is there a site where I could hear a sample of it?...let me know....
phil Posted February 2, 2006 Author Report Posted February 2, 2006 Laurie, you can hear a 30 second snippet at Yahoo shopping. The Album is called The Last Puff.
_Laurie_ Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 Phil...I can't find the link...could you post it for me if you get a chance?.....thanks
phil Posted February 3, 2006 Author Report Posted February 3, 2006 Laurie, Google in Amazon.com Best of Spooky Tooth. That should get you there.
Brad_M Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 I see... I just googled by images and didn´t find it... I remember it was a double album, it had maybe a heart on the cover??? I used to sell promo records every now and then, I must have sold some 5.000 or maybe more... during the last thirty years. I guess I sold that one too, or maybe some friend took it, who knows... The cover looks more like a parachute, Edna. Here's a link where you can see images of the front and back covers, inside, and the free poster that came with it. It also has track listing and album and artist info. All This and World War II
edna Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Oh, I remember... Thank you, Brad! I guess it´s a collector´s item by now... I should have waited...
phil Posted February 5, 2006 Author Report Posted February 5, 2006 Wow, Leo Sayer singing "I Am The Walrus". That is interesting.
DrCowbell Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Pearl Jam's You Got To Hide Your Love Away and Joe Cocker's With a Little Help From My Friends are really good.
Dazed_and_Confused Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 "Come Together" - Aerosmith and "She's a Woman" - Jeff Beck are probably on the top for me. Oh, and am I the only one who despises Joe Cocker's version of "With A Little Help From My Friends"?
bazooka Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Oh, and am I the only one who despises Joe Cocker's version of "With A Little Help From My Friends"? Yes.
bazooka Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 You are alone in all of the world. --------------------------------- Joe Cocker does pretty much nothing but 'covers', but somehow always makes the songs his own -- 'The Joe Cocker version'. That's his talent and his 'greatness'!
Steel2Velvet Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 You are the reason this song does not appear in Music Discussion forum's "Songs Everybody Likes" thread. Joe will be calling you soon.
Jazzcat Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 I really enjoy the covers performed by fingerstyle guitar artist Laurence Juber. You may remember him as a former guitarist for Wings. Also recently heard "And Your Bird Can Sing" by Matthew Sweet and Susana Hoffs on their very enjoyable album "Under the Covers".
OLD 55 Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 I think Joe Cocker's version of With A Little Help From My Friends is one of the all time best Beatles' covers. It was also the first time that three session musicians who were to become the future rhythm section of Led Zeppelin worked together.
edna Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 Old55 just told me it´s not "With a little help from my friends" where the three LedZeps play as session musicians, but Donovan´s "Hurdy Gurdy Man"... so I´m posting it here so you all know... Thank you, Mr.55!!
OLD 55 Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 Edna is too modest. She told me it was just Jimmy Page, and also found out for me the song I was getting mixed up with ! I'm sorry for misleading people. Jimmy also played on Donovan's Sunshine Superman. :guitar:
