I'm getting tired of all 10 of those being at the top of every list. I'm not saying there should be different ones at the top, I'm just saying there should be different lists. More specific lists. I've seen this exact list a million times by now.

Anyways, Edna, I agree, "Highway Star" rules.

well, they're still the greatest, but they're so overdone, they're no fun to listen to anymore.

Here's my personal list (favorites, not greatest)

1. Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child (live or studio, but preferably from "Live At The Filmore East")

2. Eddie Hazel (Funkadelic) - Maggot Brain

3. Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower

4. Frank Zappa - Willie The Pimp

5. Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd) - Time

6. Jimi Hendrix - Machine Gun

7. Ritchie Blackmore (Rainbow) - Kill The King (Live)

8. Brian May (Queen) - Bohemian Rhapsody

9. Brian May (Queen) - Procession

10. John Mclaughlin (Mahavishnu Orchestra) - Meeting of the Spirits

If it's Zappa we're after...I prefer 'Black Napkins' but, hey...it's all subjective...personally I'd have 'Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape' by Bill Nelson (Be Bop Deluxe) and something...probably 'Always With You' by Joe Satriani.... :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: ...if more people knew these tunes they'd love them...Joe is going to be played at my funeral....awesome stuff.

Edna....Highway Star has always been my favorite Deep Purple song. I spoke alot about it on another post last year. What amazes me about that list is where is Smoke On The Water? Now while it doesn't have a long solo, it is known as the greatest guitar riff in rock history and I would think that deserves some credit.

There are SOOOOOOOOO many to choose from. Here are a few of my favourites:

Johnny Winter - Mean Town Blues and It's All Over Now

Alvin Lee - his smokin' solo from his Woodstock performance of I"m Going Home or any of his solos from Keep On Rockin'.

Link Wray - The Way I Walk

Collins and Rossington on the aforementioned Freebird.

The guitarist responsible for the solo on Steely Dan's "Do It Again"

I also love Duane Allman's slide work on Statesboro Blues

I was just listening to Roy Buchanan's "Roy's Bluz" and that's a hot hot solo too.

Have you heard Pete's Blues by Buchanan?

Knophler's guitar throughout "Sultan's of Swing" The ending solo is some of the best individual-note speed work without missing or muffing a string, I have ever heard.

So true. :guitar:
