Mysterious, Tragic, or War-like.

Hey everyone =)

I've been assigned a project on Macbeth (I can feel the excitement building in all of you already) that is to compile a soundtrack for the play.

Don't worry about having knowledge of the play..it's more that I'm having trouble locating the kind of songs I need. The songs can be anything from any decade, any genre of music (please take exception to rap, though). =)

Here's the general idea of what kinds I'm looking for:

Category 1: War-like songs for battle scenes. Basically, anything with a marching tempo of some sort...or just a war-like feel at all.

Category 2: Ominous, mysterious songs for ghost/apparition appearances. Self-explanatory.

Category 3: Tragic, murder scene suited songs. Basically, a song suited for a scene when assassins go after their culprit. Dangerous, etc.

Category 4: Open-ended "quirkiness". Anything weird-sounding but not entirely positive/happy. Suited for a scene of witches brewing potions.

=) Hopefully those of you here will be able to come up with more than the relatively blank slate I've got going here. lol Thanks in advance! =)

1. Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit

Metallica - One (the end)

2. Jeff Buckley - You And I

Pink Floyd - Welcome To The Machine

3. Paul McCartney - Live And Let Die (the fast sections)

4. Cream - Strange Brew

Tori Amos - Happy Phantom

Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights

Is that the same Wuthering Heights that Pat Benetar does?

The Stranglers "WaltzInBlack" sounds like it might come in very useful to you, either Category 2 or, more likely, Category 4.

Best of luck with your drama project.

PS For "war-like", how about Black Sabbath's WarPigs. In fact early Black Sabbath could serve you well here. War, Witchcraft, its all there. Maybe a "Sabbath Expert" can advise?

(If you prefer instrumentals, Alice Donut do a nifty cover of WarPigs on their album "The Untidy Suicides of Your Degenerate Children", but it has mute trombone in lieu of vocals... )

also, for the witch scene, "witches' rave" by jeff buckley

kick a** das and rach!

i like hunter by bjork for a build up to a battle scene cutting into something a bit more wild and chaotic when the violence begins, like the smashing pumpkins suggestions by kev!

WAR MACHINE

Wanna bite the hand that feeds me, wanna turn the tides

Set the demons free and watch 'em fly

Strike down the one who leads me, I'm gonna take his place

Gonna vindicate the human race

Better watch out 'cause I'm a war machine

Better watch out 'cause I'm a war machine

Take the reins of power and seize them, draw the battle lines

Armageddon's just a matter of time

Tear down the voice of reason, let the arrows fly

Your freedom's just a state of mind, yeah

Better watch out 'cause I'm a war machine

You better watch out 'cause I'm a war machine

You better watch out 'cause I'm a war machine

You better watch out 'cause I'm a war machine

Better watch out 'cause I'm a war machine

I'm a war machine, I'm a war machine

Steven

I don't want to see you go

I don't even want to be there

I will cover up my eyes

And pray it goes away

You've only lived a minute of your life

I must be dreaming, please stop screaming

I don't like to hear you cry

You just don't know how deep that cuts me

So I will cover up my eyes

And it will go away

You've only lived a minute of your life

I must be dreaming, please stop screaming

STEVEN!

STEVEN!

I hear my name!

STEVEN!

Is someone calling me? I hear my name!

STEVEN!

That icy breath that whispers screams of pain!

I don't want to feel you die

But if that's the way that God has planned you

I'll put pennies on your eyes

And it will go away

See?

You've only lived a minute of your life

I must be dreaming

Steven....

Is someone calling me? No....

Steven....

I think I hear a voice--- it's outside the door!

STEVEN!

I hear my name!

STEVEN!

Is someone calling me? I hear my name!

STEVEN!

WHAT DO YOU WANT?

STEVEN!

WHAT DO YOU WANT? WHAT DO YOU WANT? WHAT-DO-YOU-WANT?

STEVEN!

STEVEN!

STEVEN!

I hear my name....

Night Prowler

Somewhere a clock strikes midnight

And there's a full moon in the sky

You hear a dog bark in the distance

You hear someone's baby cry

A rat runs down the alley

And a chill runs down your spine

Someone walks across your grave

And you wish the sun would shine

No one's gonna warn you

And no one's gonna yell 'Attack'

And you don't feel the steel

Till it's hanging out your back

I'm your Night Prowler, I sleep in the day

I'm your Night Prowler, get out of my way

Look out for the Night Prowler, watch you tonight

I'm the Night Prowler, when you turn out the light ...

Too scared to turn your light out

'Cos there's something on your mind

Was that a noise outside your window?

What's that shadow on the blind?

As you lie there naked

Like a body in a tomb

Suspended animation

As I slip into your room

I'm your Night Prowler, I sleep in the day

I'm your Night Prowler, get out of my way

Look out for the Night Prowler, watch you tonight

I'm the Night Prowler, when you turn out the light ...

I'm your Night Prowler, break down your door

I'm your Night Prowler, crawling 'cross your floor

I'm your Night Prowler, make a mess of you, yes I will

Night Prowler, and I am telling this to you

There ain't nothing you can do

As for the last part, The opening sequence for Gene Simmons' "Radioactive" is perfect for what you are requiring.

Ken.

If it's not too late to make a suggestion, Mars, The Bringer Of War from The Planets by Gustav Holst might be quite effective for Category 1 and Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells might work quite well for Category 3. It was very effective in the movie "The Exorcist".
