Billboard changed its method of compiling the U.S. Charts on 30 November 1991, and I believe the Charts aren't really accurate after that. The U.K. waited another 3 1/2 years before they messed theirs up. (More about both of those later). However, if people continue to view this thread I'll keep going beyond 1991. My history professor toured as a guitarist with him back in the day. Which is amazing because he seems to be the most staid cat I've ever met. He also whistles when he says his "s"s, like the Gopher from Winnie the Pooh. They couldn't be any worse (collectively) than the Australian Top 10 I just saw on our Video Hits. I had to leave twice when Eminem and James Blunt were on. I liked the #1 song where the clip shows a kid cycling across America and another by Rogue Trader that half steals the guitar riff from My Sharona. Also I saw lttle Carlos Santana and Steve Tyler, but I couldn't work out the story in the clip. Steve can still belt out a song and Santana is superb. I also saw some Australian kid with a "thing" through his tongue and 3 more under his lip. And probably just a few years ago he would have been complaining about wearing braces on his teeth. ................................................. I wouldn't have expected too many of those songs on my 60s CD to be familiar. It's got a few well known Hits, but some you'd just never hear on radio. That's why I bought it and another similar one. Before I buy 60s Compilations, I have to check for how many I don't have. You did very well to know 7,7, and 9 respectively, especially Peaches The Kid. That's interesting about Billy Joe Royal, Peaches. I think he's had more Country hits than Pop. Most people probably only know him for "Down In The Boondocks", which is a shame. Poco's another fine Country Rock act. And the Byrds are just great. I could listen to anything of theirs. Geez. I've been waffling ! Sorry. I think they are best known for Sugar & Spice. The Cyrkle were part of Brian Epstein's stable, after he died so did the Cyrkle. Never liked Blood, Sweat & Tears with David Clayton Thomas. Their first album with Al Kooper at the helm was their best. Especially the song I Can't Quit Her. God didn't make little green apples and it don't rain in Indianapolis.... I didn't know The Cyrkle were managed by Brian Epstein and I don't know much about the Cryan' Shames either. Neither Group charted here in Australia, although Red Rubber Ball/Cyrkle got some airplay here in Queensland. There was also a version going round by Australian Group The Seekers. I think one of them co-wrote the song ? I like finding CDs like these which have 'something different'; a bit like digging up "buried treasure". This resulted in songs spending very long periods of time at the #1 spot from 1992 and less #1s of course. From averaging 24 Number 1 Songs per year over the last two decades, 1992 saw only 12, even less in some subsequent years. I've done a lot of research into this, looked further than I normally do, and come up with a Top 20 in the process. (1993 will take a couple of days to prepare I'd say). The U.S. Charts introduce HOT 100 #1s and AIRPLAY #1s, so on a lot of weeks you have TWO #1s. I kid you not. The U.K. Charts go crazier still. They have a NEW SONG ENTERING AT #1 practically every week. This used be a rarity, and only achieved by Mega Stars like Elvis and The Beatles in their most popular days; fans would pre-order thousands/millions of copies of their latest records.
