I used to love INXS in the late 80's and early 90's and I think this is a really great song...I hope they have success with their new album...it's too bad Michael Hutchence is no longer around...anyway,

What is the meaning of this song and in particular the term "Pretty Vegas"?

Hey John. I'm not exactly sure what the term "pretty Vegas" means, but here are the lyrics. I get the impression they are talking about how after the party is over, you are still left with what you had to start with. Or I could be completely wrong...help me out here, people.

The new singer, JD, wrote the song during the INXS Rockstar show as one of his tests.. He used to work in Vegas as an Elvis impersonator, and from what I can remember of his talks during the show, he doesn't have very fond memories of it. I got the impression it was his impression of the grungy side of Vegas that tourists are too starry eyed and drunk to notice.

It seems like a little play on words....Go to bar that's tacky in Vegas sort of way...the place is "pretty Vegas"...or "pretty" is just the opposite of the "ugly" he really sees there. A little imagery..

Yeah, that's the impression I got. Kind of a scorn filled statement. "You think it's so pretty here in Vegas, but you should see what I see" kind of a statement.

Personally I dig the song, and the album was streaming online for a while at vh1, dunno if it still is. I really like it. It sounds just like you'd expect an INXS album to sound. I went into that Rockstar show as one of the biggest doubters I know, but JD won me over by the end, I think he's gonna be pretty good. They'll never be the INXS they were with Hutchence, but that's no reason why they shouldn't still put out good music, right?
