Batman
I have recently heard the song "Father and Son" and I think it's just great! Any suggestions?
bluesboy
A good starting point would be his 1970 release - Tea for the Tillerman The whole album flows from start to finish.
NewYorkMets9
The only song I know is "Tea For the Tillerman" from the end of "Extras". It's only about a minute thirty long, but it's amazing.
Batman
I just put "Tea for the Tillerman" on hold at the library, I'll tell you what I think of it when it comes in.
katie_sane
Great thread Batman! I've been listening to Cat Stevens a lot, my uncle gave me Tea For The Tillerman, Teaser & The Firecat, Matthew & Son and a greatest hits. Tea For The Tillerman is one of my favourite albums. Bluesboy is absolutely right, it just flows. My favourite songs off that album are 'Where Do The Children Play?', 'Wild World' and 'Sad Lisa'. I also really like 'Here Comes My Baby', 'Lady d'Arbanville', 'I Want To Live In A Wigwam' and 'The Wind'. And 'I Love My Dog', etc.
Uncle Joe
Tea For The Tillerman is my favorite, too. Check out Catch Bull At Four as well. Sitting is a great song.

Uncle Joe
Sure is. Just a snippet: Oh Very Young, what will you leave us this time You're only dancin' on this earth for a short while Oh Very Young, what will you leave us this time You're only dancin' on this earth for a short while And though your dreams may toss and turn you now They will vanish away like your dads best jeans Denim blue, faded up to the sky And though you want them to last forever You know they never will (You know they never will) And the patches make the goodbye harder still. Some more Cat songs you might check out: Longer Boats Mathew and Son (the first Cat Stevens song I ever heard) O Caritas Miles From Nowhere Moonshadow But I Might Die Tonight Can't Keep It In Banapple Gas Hard Headed Woman Old School Yard On The Road To Find Out Peace Train Here Comes My Baby ( a good cover) Lady D'Arbanville Where Do The Children Play Two Fine People The First Cut Is The Deepest (covered by Rod Stewart and recently by Sheryl Crow) The Boy With A Moon And Star On His Head (from the lovely "Buddha And The Chocolate Box") Ready Enjoy ! edna
"Tea for the Tillerman" has no waste. Just like "Teaser and the Firecat". "Mona Bone Jackon" has many pretty songs. I lost track of Cat Stevens after "Catch bull at four" but I really love all he did before.
RonJonSurfer
Tea For The Tillerman is my favorite, too. Check out Catch Bull At Four as well. Sitting is a great song. "Sitting" is one of my all time favorite songs. The musicians playing behind him are too good and his voice/lyrics...amazing song.
Steel2Velvet
He also painted the artwork for his album covers. Sitting - Cat Stevens Oh I'm on my way I know I am, somewhere not so far from here All I know is what I feel right now, I feel the power growing in my hair Sitting on my own now by myself, everybody's here with me I don't need to touch your face to know, I don't need to use my eyes to see I keep on wondering if I sleep too long, will I always wake up the same (or so)? And keep on wondering if I sleep too much, will I even wake up again or something Oh I am on my way, I know I am, but times there were when I thought not Bleeding half of my soul in bad company, I thank the moon I had the strength to stop I'm not making love to anyone's wishes, only for the light I see 'Cause when I am dead and lowered in my grave, that's gonna be the only thing that's left of me And if I make it to the waterside, will I even find me a boat (or so)? And if I make it to the waterside, I'll be sure to write you a note or something. Oh I'm on my way, I know I am, somewhere not so far from here All I know is all I feel right now, I feel the power growing in my hair Oh life is like a maze of doors and they all open from the side you're on Just keep pushing hard boy, try as you may You're going to wind up where you started from You're going to wind up where you started from
EagleEye0
CAT STEVENS IS AWESOME. I LOVE CAT STEVENS I HAVE ALL OF HIS ALBUMS. MY FAVORITES: TEASER AND THE FIRECAT IZITOSO MONA BONE JAKON TEA FOR THE TILLERMAN BUDDHA AND THE CHOCOLATE BOX FOREIGNER CAT STEVENS IS MY FOURTH FAVORITE MUSICIAN/GROUP OF ALLTIME. SHAME HE WAS NOT INDUCTED INTO THE HALL THIS YEAR. HE IS FAR BETTER AND MORE TALENTED THAN HIS CONTEMPORARIES (I..E CAROLE kING, whose music i thoroughly enjoy, and the soporific drone of James Taylor). James Taylor is such an insipid performer. Cat Stevens rocks!!! LISTEN TO CAT STEVENS

Brad_M
> Cat Stevens, born Steven Georgiou on 7/21/47 in London. > Converted to Muslim religion in 1979; took name Yusef Islam. > Released 12 albums between 1966 and 1978. > It was Cat's 4th album release "Tea For The Tillerman" in 1970 and the release of the single "Wild World" in 1971 that brought world-wide attention to the singer/songwriter/guitarist Cat Stevens. > String of hits from 1971 to 1977. Did you know that Cat Stevens wrote the song "The First Cut Is The Deepest"? It was included on his 2nd album release in 1967. Rod Stewart did a version of the song and took it to # 21 in 1977. www.catstevens.com
Shawna
and Sheryl Crow butchered it in the recent past. Also on Cat Stevens: his tunes "Wild World" and "Lady D'Arbanville" were written for actress Patti D'Arbanville, for whom Eric Clapton's song "Layla" was also written, if I recall correctly. edna
Also on Cat Stevens: his tunes "Wild World" and "Lady D'Arbanville" were written for actress Patti D'Arbanville, for whom Eric Clapton's song "Layla" was also written, if I recall correctly. "Layla" was written for Patty Boyd, wife of George Harrison... Patti D´Arbanville (also former wife of Don Johnson) is another Patti... I know you know that, Shawna... First Cat Stevens song I heard was "Lady D´Arbanville", I guess it was in 1969 or 1970 I loved it... it was also a hit, but it made just #13 in the UK. Peter Gabriel played in that song... then in 1970 I got his new album, "Tea for the tillerman" with "Wild world" and I decided I was a fan of Cat Stevens... ...too bad he choosed religion.
