edna Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 "Hanging on the telephone" is one of the most exciting and well known songs of Blondie. It was recorded in 1978 as the opening track for "Parallel Lines" (an album which had also the #1 hit "Heart of Glass") It isn´t an original "Stein & other Blondies" songs; actually, it was written in 1976 by Jack Lee, guitar player with The Nerves, and recorded by his band as an ep. The Nerves (Lee, Peter Case on bass and Paul Collins on drums) were a L.A. band who toured throught the states with the Ramones; they split soon after and Paul Collins started other bands such as The Plimsouls and The Beat. But Debbie Harry had heard that song and decided to make a cover. The song was a Top Hit for Blondie in the UK in 1978, reaching #5. It has also been recorded by Def Leppard as well as other bands.
