bigmike825
I know that there WAS a topic about the top 10 sad songs not too long ago here but I want the real heavy duty memories of the tear jerkers you know the songs that make you want to commit Heri Keri ! LOL or at the very least stick your head in the toilet and drown oneself ! LOL again ! I can remember a few like Teri Jacks " Seasons in the Sun " then there was Abba's "One of US " or how about Wayne Newtons tribute to Elvis called "The Elvis Letter" near impossible to locate anymore now that WinMx Is gone! There are SOOOOOOOO Many I could go on quite a while here but the point is not to list mine but to hear what yours are right? Maybe there is something still out there I would likle to hear myself and missed it? Go ahead and list any you think will qualify ..... Mike.... Shawna
as far as the cheese factor goes, how about "Shannon" by Henry Gross. The one song that made me cry on several occasions was "What Mattered Most" ~ Ty Herndon

katie_sane
Alone Again, Naturally - Gilbert O'Sullivan In a little while from now, if I'm not feeling any less sour, I promised myself to treat myself and visit a near by tower, And climbing to the top, will throw myself off; In an effort to make clear to whoever wants to know what it's like when your shattered....." The lines out of that song that make me cry are: "...I remember I cried when my father died, never wishing to hide the tears, And at sixty-five years old, my mother, God rest her soul, Couldn't understand why the only man she had ever loved had been taken, Leaving her to start, with a heart so badly broken Despite encouragement from me, no words were ever spoken, And when she passed away, I cried and cried all day Alone again, naturally....." _Laurie_
Tears In Heaven....definitely, and when ever I hear John Lennon's "Imagine" it makes me sad also. Edited December 1, 2005 by Guest
invisible_r
i agree with "tears in heaven". the most painful thing to watch was when my brother played it for my mom and it made her cry (she has lost a child to cancer) "fake plastic trees", "nothing came out" and " mad world" (the gary jules version) make me cry. Foxy
Katie Melua's voice makes me feel teary. The song 'The Closest Thing to Crazy' came out about 2 months before my step-dad died, and he loved it. I couldn't listen to it then, let alone after he died. Regardless of that, her songs are very heart-felt, with beautiful lyrics, and a very unusual voice. Some songs that move me to tears by Katie Melua are: The Closest Thing To Crazy Call Off The Search Tiger In The Night Faraway Voice Just Like Heaven Piece By Piece I Think It's Going To Rain Today Edited December 1, 2005 by Guest
Foxy
"My Immortal" by Evanescence is a pretty sad song. I’m so tired of being here Suppressed by all my childish fears And if you have to leave I wish that you would just leave ’cause your presence still lingers here And it won’t leave me alone These wounds won’t seem to heal This pain is just too real There’s just too much that time cannot erase [chorus:] When you cried I’d wipe away all of your tears When you’d scream I’d fight away all of your fears I held your hand through all of these years But you still have All of me You used to captivate me By your resonating life Now I’m bound by the life you left behind Your face it haunts My once pleasant dreams Your voice it chased away All the sanity in me These wounds won’t seem to heal This pain is just too real There’s just too much that time cannot erase [chorus] I’ve tried so hard to tell myself that you’re gone But though you’re still with me I’ve been alone all along [chorus]
blind-fitter
I'm about to go all sloppy on you.... Let me tell you about "L'Aigle Noir" by Barbara. Barbara was a French chanteuse of the 1960s. I was introduced to her music by some french buddies of mine, whose band De Medicis (slightly gothy indie-rock) used to do a cover of "L'Aigle Noir". Knowing that my mum ( a real Francophile) would love this stuff, I bought her a couple of Barbara albums. Not only was the music great, but we enjoyed singing along in French, and translating the lyrics (she was attending French classes well into her 60s). Our favourite song was "L'Aigle Noir" Its first verse: "Un beau jour, ou peut-etre une nuit, Pres d'un lac, je m'etais endormi Quand soudain, semblant crever le ciel, et venant de nulle part, surgit un aigle noir..." Translates as: "One fine day, or was it night? By a lake, I fell asleep, When suddenly, seeming to crack the sky, and coming from nowhere, swooped a black eagle" The heavy symbolism of these words really hit home when, in March 1997, my mum was diagnosed with cancer. Despite treatment, she passed away only two months later. I was asked to decide on the music for her funeral, and inevitably this was one of the pieces I chose. Heavy sh!t. I can hardly write this without "filling up". I love this song, but for the last 8 years, I can hardly bear to listen to it...

Tenacious_Peaches
We had a thread called "Songs That Make You Cry" or something to that effect. ash
'The Drugs Don't Work' by the Verve is pretty sad, and if you're already sad when you hear it, chances are you'll get pretty depressed. my other personal 'saddies' are RHCP's 'Tearjerker' and 'Scar Tissue' Radiohead's 'Street Spirit' and the Whitlams' 'Blow up the Pokies'. and then of course there are others which aren't particularly sad songs, but evoke sad memories in me when i hear them... jman14141414
Far Away Boys-Flogging Molly Well I worked on the railroad For t'pence a day Drank down one penny The other I'd save I hammered and I hammered For God knows how long Well into madness, with each setting sun I put my head down and I dreamt you were here With me by the ol' tree, where no one could care Far Away Boys, Far Away Boys Away from ya now I'm lyin' with my sweetheart In her arms I'll be found Then the sun belched upon me You were no longer here Lyin' in your place was my hammer and my gear So I stamped out the fire that kept us both warm The ashes were fallin' Like the snow drops of old We came to a mountain Dynamite and she'll blow A big hole in that rock Like the one in my soul Far Away Boys, Far Away Boys Away from ya now I'm lyin' with my sweetheart In her arms I'll be found We buried four workmen They dug themselves well From four empty coffins, to four early graves They're only paddys, just paddys Don't dig them too deep You'll need all your strength boys And they're replaced easily With the heat I was melting Into your sweet lips Ah, your kiss takes me back Takes me back from all this Far Away Boys, Far Away Boys Away from ya now I'm lyin' with my sweetheart In her arms I'll be found Someone said it was Christmas But not a tree was in sight The only thing growin' was my will to die Till the gaffer said 'men, your work here is done' I said 'I'll see you in Hell, on that train we died for' Never again, will I smell your sweet dream But a pissed stained ol' gutter where: You lips used to be Far Away Boys, Far Away Boys Away from ya now I'm lyin' with my sweetheart In her arms I'll be found
