Yoda
Hello Again... I was in the store Forever21 today and they were playing a mix of Christmas songs...a mixture of Pop/Rock and I think even sort of HipHop. In fact, there was some version of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" by an artist I assume to be hip hop...it had a really good beat. Anyway...I'm looking for suggestions for some good Christmas songs along those lines. Here's what I've got so far: "Santa Can You Hear Me?" - Britney Spears "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" - Jessica Simpson "All I Want For Christmas Is You" - Mariah Carey I'm looking for the upbeat Christmas songs like these. callmeanimal
Fairytale of New York, by The Pogues. It goes like this: It was Christmas Eve babe In the drunk tank An old man said to me, won't see another one And then he sang a song The Rare Old Mountain Dew I turned my face away And dreamed about you Got on a lucky one Came in eighteen to one I've got a feeling This year's for me and you So happy Christmas I love you baby I can see a better time When all our dreams come true They've got cars big as bars They've got rivers of gold But the wind goes right through you It's no place for the old When you first took my hand On a cold Christmas Eve You promised me Broadway was waiting for me You were handsome You were pretty Queen of New York City When the band finished playing They howled out for more Sinatra was swinging, All the drunks they were singing We kissed on a corner Then danced through the night The boys of the NYPD choir Were singing "Galway Bay" And the bells were ringing out For Christmas day You're a bum You're a punk You're an old slut on junk Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed You scumbag, you maggot You cheap lousy faggot Happy Christmas your arse I pray God it's our last I could have been someone Well so could anyone You took my dreams from me When I first found you I kept them with me babe I put them with my own Can't make it all alone I've built my dreams around you

Otokichi
In keeping with bittersweet Christmas songs, here's Jim Croce's take on this subject: Jim Croce It Doesn't Have To Be That Way Written by - Jim Croce From - Life and Times Snowy nights and Christmas lights Icy window panes Make me wish that we could be Together again And the windy winter avenues Just don't seem the same And the Christmas carols sound like blues But the choir is not to blame But it doesn't have to be that way What we had should have never have ended And I'll be dropping by today We could easily get it together tonight It's only right Crowded stores, the corner Santa Claus Tinseled afternoons And the sidewalk bands that play their songs Slightly out of tune On the windy winter avenues There walks a lonely man And if I told you who he is Well, I think you'd understand But it doesn't have to be that way What we had should have never have ended And I'll be dropping by today We could easily get it together tonight It's only right But it doesn't have to be that way What we had should have never have ended And I'll be dropping by today We could easily get it together tonight It's only right I ran across this song while playing the Jim Croce 50th Anniversary 2 CD set one night and found it to have a "Merry Christmas Darling" feel to it. RonJonSurfer
I just heard a new Christmas song, on the radio, by Billy Idol. It's called "Yelling At The Christnas Tree". The basic theme is that when he was a kid his Dad used to stay out all Christmas season getting drunk. The chorus had these lines, "Santa's balls are jingling, Mama's hips are wiggling"....I recall a line about Santa coming down the chimney and going up into Mama's room. Leave it Billy Idol to make it interesting.

blind-fitter
Two "Christmas Songs" threads on the go at once and still no mention of the legendary, best 'upbeat Christmas song of all' "Merry Christmas Everybody" by Slade. What's going on? (Altogether now....) "Are you hanging up your stocking on your wall...?" Edited December 9, 2005 by Guest
Otokichi
I first heard this Weird Al Yankovic song late on evening during the Christmas/Holiday season and thought: "I bet he got a load of flak when he released it!" It's Christmas at Ground Zero There's music in the air The sleigh bells are ringin' and the carolers are singin' While the air raid sirens blare It's Christmas at Ground Zero The button has been pressed The radio just let us know That this is not a test Everywhere the atom bombs are droppin' It's the end of all humanity No more time for last minute shoppin' It's time to face your final destiny Well, it's Christmas at Ground Zero There's panic in the crowd We can dodge debris while we trim the tree Underneath a mushroom cloud [siren] You might hear some reindeer on your rooftop Or Jack Frost on your windowsill But if someone's climbin' down your chimney You better load your gun and shoot to kill Oh, it's Christmas at Ground Zero And if the radiation level's okay I'll go out with you and see the all new Mutations on New Year's Day It's Christmas at Ground Zero Just seconds left to go I'll duck and cover with my yuletide lover Underneath the mistletoe It's Christmas at Ground Zero Now the missiles are on their way What a crazy fluke we're gonna get nuked On this jolly holiday What a crazy fluke we're gonna get nuked On this jolly holiday [siren] After a hectic day of last-minute Christmas/Holiday shopping, I'll bet there are more than a few who wouldn't mind dropping "the big one" on the "green Christmas" crowd! Mark
"(There's No Place Like) Home For The Holidays" by The Carpenters. This is a most beautiful song yet it's upbeat with a homespun easy going upbeat rhythm. Nobody sings a Christmas song as well as Karen Carpenter.
