The Rolling Stones...

The Rolling Stones are very over-rated. I do not see what is so special about them. I ahve heard alot better and moving songs. The Eagles are much better. I was reading song facts on Journey and it said they inturrupted their tour to open for the stones. IMO the stones should have been opening for them. Am I the only one who fells this way? Please explain to me what makes them so good? I would much rather see The Eagles and I know alot of people who would rather see them too.

How deep and meaningful does this sound to you

"I says, Hey! You! Get off of my cloud

Hey! You! Get off of my cloud

Hey! You! Get off of my cloud

Don't hang around 'cause two's a crowd

On my cloud, baby"

What is your opinion on the Rolling Stones?

You mean meaningful like this:

But the Greeks don't want no freaks

The Greeks don't want no freaks

So put a great big smile on them rosy cheeks,

'Cause the Greeks don't want no freaks

No, the Greeks don't want no freaks

Said, the Greeks don't want no freaks

Just put that monster smile on them rosy cheeks

'Cause the Greeks don't want no freaks

No, the Greeks don't want no freaks,

Ahh...

I see your point..

I feel that the Stones are good ole straight rock and roll!....they just simply rock!....why would a great rock group want to play all deep and meaningful sappy love songs for heaven's sake...which by the way they do have some love songs which NewYorkMets has pointed out...I too love the Eagles, and I dont know why you are trying to compare them...there are many groups with all different types of styles...if you want to judge by lyric content, yes the Eagles are very poetic, but so are the Stones....all groups have different styles, so that's why I dont think it's fair to compare...STONES rock! :guitar:

Wild Horses

Childhood living is easy to do

The things you wanted I bought them for you

Graceless lady you know who I am

You know I can't let you slide through my hands

Wild horses, couldn't drag me away

Wild wild horses couldn't drag me away

I watched you suffer a dull aching pain

Now you decided to show me the same

No sweeping exits or off stage lines

Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind

Wild horses, couldn't drag me away

Wild wild horses couldn't drag me away

I know I've dreamed you a sin and a lie

I have my freedom but I don't have much time

Faith has been broken tears must be cried

Let's do some living after we die

Wild horses, couldn't drag me away

Wild wild horses we'll ride them someday

Wild horses, couldn't drag me away

Wild wild horses we'll ride them someday

No Expectations

Take me to the station

And put me on a train

I've got no expectations

To pass through here again

Once I was a rich man and

Now I am so poor

But never in my sweet short life

Have I felt like this before

You heart is like a diamond

You throw your pearls at swine

And as I watch you leaving me

You pack my peace of mind

Our love was like the water

That splashes on a stone

Our love is like our music

Its here, and then its gone

So take me to the airport

And put me on a plane

I got no expectations

To pass through here again

Shine A Light

Saw you stretched out in Room Ten O Nine

With a smile on your face and a tear right in your eye.

Oh, couldn't see to get a line on you, my sweet honey love.

Berber jewelry jangling down the street,

Making bloodshot eyes at every woman that you meet.

Could not seem to get a high on you, my sweet honey love.

May the good Lord shine a light on you,

Make every song your favorite tune.

May the good Lord shine a light on you,

Warm like the evening sun.

When you're drunk in the alley, baby, with your clothes all torn

And your late night friends leave you in the cold gray dawn.

Just seemed too many flies on you, I just can't brush them off.

Angels beating all their wings in time,

With smiles on their faces and a gleam right in their eyes.

Whoa, thought I heard one sigh for you,

Come on up, come on up, now, come on up now.

May the good Lord shine a light on you,

Make every song you sing your favorite tune.

May the good Lord shine a light on you,

Warm like the evening sun.

Nuff said.

good ones jman...here's one of my favorites, if your talkin lyrics:

Ruby Tuesday

She would never say where she came from

Yesterday don't matter, if it's gone

While the sun is bright

Or in the darkest night

No one knows...She comes and goes

Good-bye, Ruby Tuesday

Who could hang a name on you?

When you change with every new day

Still, I'm gonna miss you

Don't question why she needs

to be so free

She'll tell you it's the only

way to be

She just can't be chained

to a life where nothing's gained

and nothing's lost

at such a cost

"There's no time to lose"

I heard her say

Catch your dreams before

they slip away

Dying all the time...

Lose your dreams and you

will lose your mind

in life unkind?

Good-bye, Ruby Tuesday

Who could hang a name on you?

When you change with every new day

Still, I'm gonna miss you...

Jman, I couldn´t have said it better. And still I have some 200 or 300 more reasons to just love the Rolling Stones.

But enough said.

The Rolling Stones ARE rock and roll. There is no one greater, better or more popular than the Stones (excepting the Beatles, of course). 'Get Off Of My Cloud' is a damn good song, stop getting caught up in the words and listen to the music man!

The Eagles are a great band, don't get me wrong, I'm definitely a fan. But comparing The Rolling Stones to Journey is laughable.

Elton John sums it up well: "Mick Jagger is the perfect rock star. There's nobody more perfect than Jagger. He's rude, he's ugly-attractive, he's brilliant. The Rolling Stones are the perfect rock group -- they don't give a s***"

 STONES!!!!!

oh my. From the original post through all the responses, I have nothing to add. You all know how I feel, thank you for expressing it for me!!!

Honey, does everything have to be meaningful? Can't you just have fun? That's what the Stones do. If you saw them live, so would you.

I don't see how you can post one set of lyrics and then say the don't write meaningful lyrics.

I might as well say Bob Dylan writes crap, as there's surely more than one song with lyrics that aren't as great as Subterranean Homseick Blues for example, or Like A Rolling Stones.

Apart from that, the Stones rock. Even though I have to say I only like a few songs from the stuff they've done after the 60s, I still agree that they're the greatest rock'n'roll band in the world.

Not even "Sticky fringers"? "Exile on main Street"? "Goat´s Head Soup"? "It´s only rocknroll"?

I like your new avatar!!

Seeker, Bob Dylan has some of the most amazing lyrics... not only those you mention. He´s a poet... Listen to "Blonde on Blonde"... or songs like "Ballad of a thin man", "Positively 4th street", "Desolation Row", "Bob Dylan´s 115th dream"... and I could go on and on, but on another thread...

Thanks! :)

I never really listen to the later stuff, as I said in another thread, it's often so very straightforward. I really like Tumbling Dice, for example, I just don't listen to those albums very often.

And yes, Bob Dylan's got some good lyrics, but I just posted a few...Else I'd still be busy typing tomorrow.

I just said that to show that you can't judge someone by a few lines from one song.

Grow up.

It wasn't the Stones getting pelted with oranges and booed off stage, and then quitting after five songs. Grow up and learn how to spell.

Am I the only one who fells this way?

Yes. Not even does Steve Perry or Neil Schon feel this way.

How deep and meaningful does this sound to you

"I says, Hey! You! Get off of my cloud

Hey! You! Get off of my cloud

Hey! You! Get off of my cloud

Don't hang around 'cause two's a crowd

About a million times more meaningful than:

"Anyway you want it, that's the way you need it, anyway you want it."

Didn't Clint Eastwood star alongside a gorilla in a couple movies with the same name?

STONES RULE!!!

Go to a few concerts first, and then let's hear what you have to say.

I have never been attracted to him, but that is one sexy, rockin' picture. He's almost sexy enough that I'd almost go smoke some crack with him in a dark alley .

On topic, every person has the right to like and not like whomever they choose. But to compare completely unrelated groups is a little bit ridiculous. I love the incredible cheese that is Journey, but they aren't in the same league as the Stones.

However, posting in the manner that you did elicited some great responses. If everyone wasn't so pissed off, they might not have been challenged to defend the Stones in such a passionate way.

So thanks, dude.

It´s Only Rock & Roll

If I could stick my pen in my heart

And spill it all over the stage

Would it satisfy ya, would it slide on by ya

Would you think the boy is strange? Ain't he strange?

If I could win ya, if I could sing ya

A love song so divine

Would it be enough for your cheating heart

If I broke down and cried? If I cried?

I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it

I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do

Oh, well, I like it, I like it, I like it

I said can't you see that this old boy has been a lonely?

If I could stick a knife in my heart

Suicide right on stage

Would it be enough for your teenage lust

Would it help to ease the pain? Ease your brain?

If I could dig down deep in my heart

Feelings would flood on the page

Would it satisfy ya, would it slide on by ya

Would ya think the boy's insane? He's insane

I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it

I said I know it's only rock'n roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do

Oh, well, I like it, I like it, I like it

I said can't you see that this old boy has been a lonely?

And do ya think that you're the only girl around?

I bet you think that you're the only woman in town

I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it

I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it

I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do

Oh, well, I like it, I like it. I like it...

Still need reasons?

Oh, no ! Absolutely nothing ! You were simply the poster before me , and I wanted to ensure that my random thought was NOT a reply to you ...  I'm not sure , really , what I'm trying to get at , but it seems somewhat unsatisfying for us to simply throw out lyrics or shots as justifications to challenges of the status quo or what we, mostly , here take as self-evident ...
