Child Porn Past Ousts Glitter..again!

Recommended Posts

How silly of me! When I said he would get out, I was thinking of the US legal system. In Viet Nam, they do not fool around with his type and rightfully so. If they catch him, his "celebrity" status will not help him.

Actually, the only "celebrity status" he's had since the early 70's is the fact that he's been arrested for child porn. And he didn't really have HUGE celebrity status in the early 70's either. No decent attorney's gonna wanna touch this guy. He's going down, big time.

Oh, they've got him....

Glitter denies childsex allegations in Vietnam: police

HANOI (AFP) - Britain's disgraced 1970s glam rock star Gary Glitter has denied allegations that he had sex with underage girls while living in Vietnam.

"Until now, he has been denying that he has had sexual relations with two Vietnamese girls, including a 12-year-old," said Colonel Truong Dinh Tuu, chief of investigating police in the Ba Ria-Vung Tau province in southern Vietnam.

Glitter, 61, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, was arrested Saturday in Ho Chi Minh City airport as he tried to flee Vietnam, where he had been living since March, on a flight to Thailand.

He faces accusations of having indulged in "lewd acts with children", which could get him a 12-year jail sentence if convicted, and of sexual abuse of minors, which carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison.

The officer said police had already gathered the evidence needed to convict Glitter.

"Of course, we have collected sufficient proof that he sexually abused a child and that is why we decided to arrest him in the first place," he said.

Tuu said the Briton would spend at least six more days in police lockup.

"Our decision on his provisional detention for three days has now been extended by another six days," he said. "We will pursue our investigations."

He can legally be held for up to nine days by police, after which judicial authorities would have to decide on a longer detention period.

Glitter, who previously served prison time in Britain after being found with a massive collection of hardcore child pornography, arrived in Vietnam in March and had applied for permanent resident status.

Police acted after reports began emerging last week that the performer famed for outlandish outfits and bouffant hair, which he has now shed in favour of a shiny pate, was living with a 15-year-old girl.

The legal age of consent in Vietnam is 16.

He has been visited by British embassy officials.

The former singer had asked to speak to his lawyer in Britain, a police officer said earlier. The Thanh Nien (Youth) daily said Tuesday that he had refused to accept any of the Vietnamese lawyers on a list proposed by the British consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.

A Hanoi Bar Association member, Nguyen Van Dai, told AFP that foreign lawyers cannot represent clients in Vietnamese courts.

"Foreign lawyers can only offer advice on Vietnamese laws to their clients," Dai said. "They can also offer advice to Vietnamese defence lawyers."

Thanh Nien quoted unidentified investigators in Vung Tau as saying Glitter had maintained he did not know the real age of the girls he associated with, and that they all claimed to be over 20.

He was also reported to have said he merely wanted to help them "learn to speak English."

In 1999 Glitter was convicted in Britain of possessing 4,000 pornographic images of children and served four months in jail.

He is reported to have lived in Cuba and more recently in Cambodia, where he sparked an uproar among women's and child rights activists.

Glitter's musical career peaked in the 1970s with hits including "I'm The Leader Of The Gang (I Am)." He has sold millions of records.

All That Glitters....He is deep in Rock & Roll Number Two....

11-Year-Old Interviewed in Glitter Case

VUNG TAU, Vietnam - Vietnamese police said Wednesday they have interviewed a second girl under age 13 who alleged she had sex with former British rock star Gary Glitter.

The 11-year-old girl, from the southern city of Can Tho, told investigators she had traveled with her aunt to the seaside city of Vung Tau earlier this year and met Glitter at his rented home, said Lt. Col. Nguyen Duc Trinh, deputy head of the police investigation department in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.

Medical tests on the girl showed evidence of sexual intercourse, though it was unclear with whom, Trinh said.

Glitter, 61, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, is being held for at least three months in Phuoc Co prison outside Vung Tau on suspicion of engaging in obscene acts with child — a charge punishable by up to 12 years in prison.

Glitter has denied all allegations and has not been formally charged in court. He has been detained since Nov. 19, when he was nabbed trying to board a flight to Bangkok from Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam's penalties for sexual contact with someone under 18 vary depending on the charge. The maximum punishment for child rape is death by firing squad, and police have said sex with a child under 13 is considered rape.

Police have questioned six females — the 11-year-old girl, a 12-year-old girl, a 17-year-old and three others ages 18-23 — who said they had sexual contact with Glitter, Trinh said.

The criminal investigation is expected to finish in about two months, he said.

"Because this crime of raping a child is extremely serious, we need to get clear evidence before we can press charges against him," Trinh said.

The 11-year-old girl's family has demanded $5,000 in compensation from Glitter, according to police and Glitter's attorney, Le Thanh Kinh.

Kinh said earlier Wednesday that he has submitted an application to post $40,000 bail to get his client out of jail. However, police have said they will not consider the application until their investigation is completed, Kinh said.

The Ho Chi Minh City Law newspaper quoted deputy national police chief Cao Ngoc Oanh as saying Glitter is unlikely to be released on bail.

Glitter won fame as a flamboyant "glam rocker" in the 1970s. He is perhaps best known for the 1972 hit "Rock and Roll Part 2," still often played at sporting events.

He was convicted in Britain in 1999 of possessing child pornography and served half of a four-month jail term. He later went to Cambodia and was permanently expelled in 2002, but Cambodian officials did not specify any crime or file charges.

Bail Option???

The British rocker has been charged with child molestation in Vietnam.

Disgraced rocker Gary Glitter could be released on bail after being charged with child molestation in Vietnam last Friday, although he would not be allowed to leave the country.

The lawyer representing Glitter, real name Paul Francis Gadd, has proposed to pay the maximum $40,000 bail money to save his client from having to remain in "unbearable" detention center conditions.

However, Le Thanh Kinh believes Glitter, 61, will be held by authorities for at least another month before bail is granted.

On Sunday, police chief Nguyen Duc Trinh said, "We have identified six victims and the youngest was born in 1994. They declared that they have had sex with the singer."

The girls have told detectives they were enticed back to Glitter's Vung Tao home with the promise of English lessons, but upon arrival at the singer's residence, were expected to have sex with Glitter. He denies the charges.

In 1999, Glitter was given a four-month jail sentence after British police found child pornography on his computer.

Gary Glitter has asked to be cremated when his time finally comes...

His remains will be put into Etch-a-sketches across the world so that the kids can still play with him....
