Songs that creep you out

This topic may very well suck, but I am delirious from sleepiness. Hey, Halloween's coming, right?

While listening to "Russians" by Sting this morning I started thinking about other songs that give me the willies. Some are because of lyrics and some are due solely to the overall sound of the song. I love each of these pieces, and for the most part they're incredibly beautiful songs. But for some reason they all wig me out.

So, here's my list. Please feel free to add to it if you also get a little creeped out by music.

The aforementioned "Russians" - not really topical anymore, but it scared the crap out of me when I was a kid during the Cold War. And, man are the lyrics brilliant.

"You And I" by Jeff Buckley - came out after he drowned, and it sounds like he's singing underwater.

"Song To The Siren" by Tim Buckley - must be the genes. The mythology behind it does the trick, and the background vocals sound just like what I imagine a banshee would sound like.

"If It Be Your Will" by Leonard Cohen - it makes suicidal thoughts seem very comfortable. This is what I imagine "peaceful death" to sound like.

"Long Long Long" by The Beatles - religious imagery generally freaks me out a little bit, and the wailing at the end puts me over the edge.

"Oh My Love" by John Lennon - I'm not really sure why; it just makes me uneasy.

"In The Hall Of The Mountain King" by Edvard Grieg - scared the sh*t out of me when I was little, and still does. When I was about 3 or 4 I would put this record on and then run from it. But I always came back and played it again.

Good topic Daslied :)

Here are some creepy songs recommended for a movie, and here is a topic on creepy, spine tingling tunes.

The kind of songs that 'creep' me out are the ones (usually by young men or slightly creepy "wannabe" youngster old guys) who sing about the 'sweet freaky lovin' they 'gonna give ya all nite long' if you'll only be 'their girl'. Yuk! :P

I have always thought "I Want You" by Elvis Costello was a little creepy, but I suppose it is supposed to be.

Oh my baby baby I love you more than I can tell

I don't think I can live without you

And I know that I never will

Oh my baby baby I want you so it scares me to death

I can't say anymore than "I love you"

Everything else is a waste of breath

I want you

You've had your fun you don't get well no more

I want you

Your fingernails go dragging down the wall

Be careful darling you might fall

I want you

I woke up and one of us was crying

I want you

You said "Young man I do believe you're dying"

I want you

If you need a second opinion as you seem to do these days

I want you

You can look in my eyes and you can count the ways

I want you

Did you mean to tell me but seem to forget

I want you

Since when were you so generous and inarticulate

I want you

It's the stupid details that my heart is breaking for

It's the way your shoulders shake and what they're shaking for

I want you

it's knowing that he knows you now after only guessing

It's the thought of him undressing you or you undressing

I want you

He tossed some tattered compliment your way

I want you

And you were fool enough to love it when he said

"I want you"

I want you

The truth can't hurt you it's just like the dark

It scares you witless

But in time you see things clear and stark

I want you

Go on and hurt me then we'll let it drop

I want you

I'm afraid I won't know where to stop

I want you

I'm not ashamed to say I cried for you

I want you

I want to know the things you did that we do too

I want you

I want to hear he pleases you more than I do

I want you

I might as well be useless for all it means to you

I want you

Did you call his name out as he held you down

I want you

Oh no my darling not with that clown

I want you

I want you

You've had your fun you don't get well no more

I want you

No-one who wants you could want you more

I want you

I want you

I want you

Every night when I go off to bed and when I wake up

I want you

I'm going to say it once again 'til I instill it

I know I'm going to feel this way until you kill it

I want you

I want you

^^ I love that song!

I think that "This House Is Haunted" by Alice Cooper is quite creepy...

I was sitting in my room, dark and gray and crying

Someone in my life I fear was at the point of dying

A cold wind blew right up my spine, it was the break of dawn

A little voice went deep inside told me she was gone

Oh...This house is haunted

Oh...That's how I want it to be

Oh...This house is haunted

You can always stay here with me...

No more singing, no more laughing, no more sunny days

She left and took the colors with her, buried in her grave

This is where we climbed the tower, this is where she fell

Then when her young heart stopped beating, I went to hell

Oh...This house is haunted

Oh...Ha....

Oh...This house is haunted

Ho...Oh...

You float through the living room, I watch my TV

I feel you sit down on the couch right here next to me

Then I feel your lips touch mine just like we used to do

I'm so happy all alone being here with you...

Nick Cave weirds me out too Rachel!

The video to 'One' by Metallica creeps me out. I love, love, love the song and the subject matter is great but the images they show in the video are very scary. That torso lying in bed with a mask over his face....

'Fade To Black' is another Metallica song that frightens me a bit.

Alice Cooper - "Dead Babies".....'nuff said.

(It's creepy, but I love it.)

:afro: :afro: :afro: :jester:

I'm right with you on this one, Sammy.

Let's not forget "I Love The Dead", as well. Wonderfuly creepy. The Coop has a deliciously twisted sense of humor.

"I love the dead before they're cold

They're bluing flesh for me to hold

Cadaver eyes upon me see nothing

I love the dead before they rise

No farewells, no goodbyes

I never knew your rotting face

While friends and lovers mourn your silly grave

I have other uses for you, Darling "
