George Harrison wrote "Taxman" in 1966, when he realised a 98% of his earnings was gone in taxes. "I´ll never be a millionaire", he said.

In the chorus line you can hear "Taxman, Mr Wilson (Prime Minister, in the picture above), taxman, Mr. Heath" (Leader of the Conservative Party by then)

George's original version was much softer and mellower than the version that made it to the introduction of the Revolver album.

It was John that worked with George to give the song a rough edge, speed it up and add the real names of british officials in the lyrics.
