Mike
Girl - Songfacts Cynthia believed this might have been about her or inspired by her. She never asked John about it. It's also possible that John was thinking of Cynthia when he wrote It's only love Cynthia Powell met John Lennon in 1958 at Liverpool College of Art where they were both majoring in lettering. Married John Lennon on August 23, 1962 at Registry Office in Mount Pleasant Divorced November 8, 1969. "It was said I never loved Cyn. That's far from the truth. We were young, bigheaded, and got into a physical relationship too soon. Perhaps if we took things slow we would have made it. I know we would have made it." - John Lennon 1974
edna
I don´t know if John Lennon would write this song for his wife in 1965, but in any case he draw this Christmas card for her in 1958. After the Beatles split and all the betrayal feelings from John Lennon towards Paul McCartney, I thought the song would fit Paul McCartney, when it goes "When I think of all the times I tried so hard to leave her/she would turn to me and start to cry/and she promises the earth to me and I believed her/after all this time I don´t know why"
Mike
Norwegian wood was about an affair John had during his marriage to Cynthia, so well disguised, she did not discover it until long after. She always suspected "things" were going on without her knowing. She said she preferred not knowing.
