During the recording of Sgt. Pepper, John had become quite lazy. Paul was really encouraging the others into the studio, while John often sat at home and watched TV in bed. Song ideas came from anything which was immediately available to him - he rarely ventured out of the house. Such is the case with "Good Morning Good Morning," the chorus of which came from a television commercial for Kellogg's Corn Flakes

John liked to eat Cornflakes for breakfast.

In 1894 Dr. John Harvey Kellogg was the superintendent of a famous hospital and health spa in Battle Creek, Michigan. His younger brother, Will Keith Kellogg, was the business manager. The hospital stressed healthful living and kept its patients on a diet that eliminated caffeine, meat, alcohol, and tobacco. The brothers invented many foods that were made from grains, including a coffee substitute and a type of granola, which they forced through rollers and rolled into long sheets of dough. One day, after cooking some wheat, the men were called away. When they finally returned, the wheat had become stale. They decided to force the tempered grain through the rollers anyway.

Surprisingly, the grain did not come out in long sheets of dough. Instead each wheat berry was flattened and came out as a thin flake. The brothers baked the flakes and were delighted with their new invention. They realized they had discovered a new and delicious cereal, but they had no way of knowing they had accidentally invented a whole new industry. Will Keith Kellogg eventually opened his own cereal business, and its most famous product is still sold today:

It wasn’t until 1906 that Kellogg’s Corn Flakes were made available to the general public. In 1909, the very first cereal premium was offered: The Funny Jungleland Moving Pictures Booklet available with the purchase of 2 packages. The offer was available for twenty-three years!

I grew up thanks to kellog´s corn flakes... that´s all I would accept to eat, besides of spaghetti... I remember the plastic little submarines you could find in the boxes.

Some three years ago I was really broke and couldn´t buy my Kellogs for two months, so I decided I would write to Kellogs Spain, tell them I was a faithfull customer going through a bad period and, as I couldn´t afford their brand, I considered they should send me some to my house. Which they did!!!

It was a joke we made one night with some friends but it worked! i got three packs of cornflakes delivered to my house... and we laughed a lot...

Of course, I sent them a letter saying thank you very much, my business are going better and blah blah...

You know, I never thought of it before but it's really funny, and now makes a lot more sense. John bought the circus poster that he got all the lyrics from for Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite, he wrote Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds from the picture Julian drew. A Day In A Life was compiled from some news stories.

-All this from the confines of home.
