katie_sane
I searched, but couldn't find anything much on this. Tis my 21st birthday party on the 24th September and we are choosing songs for it. Can anyone recommend some of their favourite party tunes? Keep in mind I can't really have Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep or my beloved Ramones (as much as I'd love to, but my mum said something about 'appropriateness' )
edna
"Stuck in the middle with you" , "Denis Denis" (Blondie), "My Sharonna" (Knack), "Dancing in the moonlight" (?), "Mercedes benz" (Janis Joplin, modern version)

bazooka
Brick House - The Commodores. Encourages uninhibited dancing. When Doves Cry - Prince. Maybe this one wouldn't immediately come to mind, but try putting it on at your party. I think you'll be surpised what a hit it is.

Earth-Angel
I posted a list earlier today! I could swear I did...right? The ones I remember were the usual wedding reception/party/birthday/social gathering/get up and boogie tunes: Footloose Brown girl in the ring 500 miles Girls just wanna have fun Mr Jones Achy breaky heart (yes folks, this one is a crowd puller due to its ridiculous nature and people can't resist doing "the" dance) Unskinny bop True to form (sorry Katie) I have found a similar thread , but it is loaded with cool suggestions for Dance songs for all functions. MarcM
Try some early Oingo Boingo is good if you are looking for an 80's feel. Only a Lad, Grey Matter, I Like Little Girls, Private Life, etc. Good stuff!
bluesboy
Try some early Oingo Boingo Hey Marc, we used to go see Oingo Boingo at the Whiskey in the late '70s when they called themselves the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo. They were more a vaudeville and novelty act then. And for Katie's birthday how about - Shout - the Isley Brothers Work Song - Paul Butterfield Blues Band Low Society - Lowell Fulson Tell Mama - Etta James Snatch It Back and Hold It - Junior Wells Killing Floor - Howlin' Wolf All Your Love (I Miss Loving) - Melvin Taylor When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again - Elvis I Love the Life I Live, I Live the Life I Love - Royal Crown Revue Old Devil Moon - Frank Sinatra Beyond the Sea - Bobby Darin She Walks On Fire - Royal Crown Revue Jump In the Line - Harry Belafonte Have a Great Birthday Katie and Happy Birthday Uncle Joe

MarcM
Cool, Bluesboy! I am sure it was an interesting act, if nothing else. I have seen them a few times. The last time was a Knott's Berry Farm at Halloween in 86. They have a very tight sound that I like to re discover from time to time.
katie_sane
Have a Great Birthday Katie and Happy Birthday Uncle Joe Thanks BB!! My birthday was nearly a month ago, my party is on in september for convenience. Uncle, I shall be thinking of you as I tear up the dancefloor to 'Louie Louie'. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I printed them out and asked my uncle (who has all the music) to add them all to the playlist
edna
Maybe I´ll go to your party, Katie, looks like there´s going to be great music...
Jenny
If it's not too late, I have some suggestions. If you want people to dance, try these: Groove is in the Heart - DeeeLite Gonna Make you Sweat - C&C Music Factory Pon de Replay - Rihanna Another guaranteed dance floor filler that's a little cheesy is the Electric Slide. Can't go to a wedding without hearing that
Earth-Angel
OOh good choice Jenny! I like "Pon de replay", it does make you wanna get up and boogie!

katie_sane
Maybe I´ll go to your party, Katie, looks like there´s going to be great music... If distance and time were no problems, then you'd all be invited! We have about 70 people coming so a few more wouldn't make a difference, the more the merrier!! Thanks Jenny, CeeCee and Ken, I added those songs and a few B52's to the list
