bluesboy Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Hi Amy, I'll think of some more while at work today.
EasyRider Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 (edited) Check out Classical Gas by Mason Williams. There's lots of great guitarists who don't use a flat pick such as rockers Jeff Beck and Mark Knopfler for example. These guys play with bare thumb and fingers. There are other players who finger pick not with bare fingers but use a thumbpick in combination with finger picks.I saw Keb Mo on a t.v. program recently and noticed he was using the thumb pick and he had finger picks on three of his fingers as well. He's great and plays tradiional style blues. bluesboy Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 I know part of your plan will be making me OFFICIALLY QOTMFU, right??? That's right ! Queen + You're actually just like the Queen on the chessboard, the Most important player.
Earth-Angel Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 (edited) I also read cheeseboard. I figured it was an inside joke Now that we have a queen, might I be the princess of something? Please? Please! Edited September 3, 2005 by Guest
bluesboy Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Luke, also maybe some - Leo Kottke , he uses different tunings. + Rosa Lee Mcfall off The Pizza Tapes with Jerry Garcia, David Grisman and Tony Rice Here's more to explore.
Earth-Angel Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Earth-Angel, You are a Princess. Bluesboy, you are the wind beneath my wings!
ImThatGuyToo Posted September 5, 2005 Report Posted September 5, 2005 Jimmy Page - Black Mountain Side / White Summer Tab Pachelbel - Canon In D Tab That's about all I can think of.
daslied Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 The intro lick in "The Boxer" by Simon & Garfunkel is pretty amazing. The rest of the song is good ol' "Travis Picking" - good practice. Kind of like "Dust In The Wind". Try "Leyenda" - remember that car commercial (Lexus, maybe?), where they were showing how smooth the car rode? The guy was in the back seat playing this. You can find a lot of Carcassi etudes that are great for finger-picking, unless you don't like classicl guitar.
nobody_home Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 (edited) Here's what I know: "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" - Bob Dylan "New York is Not My Home" - Jim Croce "Tears in Heaven" - Eric Clapton They're not that advanced but fun to play, and I get real excited when someone recognizes the song before the lyrics. ImThatGuyToo Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 I just rememberd another one tonight - Led Zeppelin - Bron-y-aur Tab The cool thing about this tune is that it sounds more difficult than it really is. It's mainly tricky because the tuning is a bit funky, CACGCE, but once you get used to the tuning you can play a couple other Page compositions as well, Friends (from III) and Poor Tom (from Coda). In case anyone wants to know a simple way to get to this tuning without a chromatic tuner, just tune low E's 9th fret to your A, A's 3rd fret is your next C, and then use your G's 5th fret as your third and final C.
