Common Words or Phrases

Recommended Posts

i was just wondering if anyone else has stumbled upon commonly used words or phrases in classic rock songs. i'm just inviting you to post them or add to others. i've just noticed certain things like:

-if the sun refused to shine

"in this dirty old part of the city, where the sun refused to shine" the animals, "we gotta get out of this place"

"if the sun refused to shine, i would still be loving you" led zeppelin, "thank you"

"if the sun, refused to shine, i don't mind, i don't mind" jimi hendrix, "if 6 was 9"

-soho

"i woke up in a soho doorway a policeman knew my name" the who, "who are you"

"walking through the streets of soho in the rain" warren zevon, "werewolves of london

"i met her in a club down in old soho" the kinks, "lola"

This is taken from an Entertainment Weekly article about the 2003 release of the Led Zeppelin concert DVD...I know Sammy will enjoy this...

In 1985, Phil Collins, of all people, played drums at Live Aid with the three Zep-men; his ragged performance earned him Page's undying ire. ''Robert told me Phil Collins wanted to play with us,'' says Page. ''I told him that was all right if he knows the numbers. But at the end of the day, he didn't know anything. We played 'Whole Lotta Love' and he was just there bashing away cluelessly and grinning. I thought that was really a joke.''

Now he´s almost deaf... he should have been deaf fourty years ago.

And Gabriel is boring for me. I saw Genesis live a couple of times back in the mid seventies and it was boring. Their records are boring too. They are not sexy at all, besides...

Actually, I think Phil doesn't care anymore.

"Well you can tell everyone I'm a down disgrace

Drag my name all over the place.

I don't care anymore.

You can tell everybody about the state I'm in

You won't catch me crying cos I just can't win.

I don't care anymore I don't care anymore

I don't care what you say

I don't play the same games you play ...

I don't care what you say

We never played by the same rules anyway.

I won't be there anymore

Get out of my way

Let me by

I got better things to do with my time

I don't care anymore I don't care anymore

I don't care anymore I don't care anymore "

It may just be me , but I do note a number of songs with references to someone named 'Baby ' or 'babe ' ....!? The word "Love " seems to be in a number of songs, as well .

"Woke up this morning and I wrote down this song..." (Fire and Rain- Actually, it´s "I walked out..." but I always thought it was "woke up"...)

There´s a song "Woke up this morning" by the Black Crowes.
