I used to use Kazza, but it was slow, and the selection wasn't that good. Plus the "Gain Advertizing" Spyware had to be installed on the computer for Kazza to work. Your suggestion of WinMX has been a godsend. Thank you so much. Great selection, fast speed, and no spyware.

Bands that produce good music should welcome file sharing. If I download a song or two and I like them then I'm likely to buy the CD. If I don't like them I won't. Before downloading I used to waste a lot of money buying CDs for the one song I heard on the radio only to find that the one song was the only thing on the CD worth listening to. Now I can sample several of the songs before I purchase a CD. This helps the bands that put out good music and hurts the ones who don't, but might have one catchy type tune. If done this way it's not stealing but simply previewing a CD before a purchase is made. Most record stores let you do this in their stores already. I wish I had been able to sample many of the CDs I have before I purchased them. After "Play", I just assumed anything by Moby was going to be good. Then I bought the CD with him dressed as an astronaut on the front cover. Even though I did like one song, the rest was so bad that I sacrificed the entire CD by breaking it in half. I can avoid further CD sacrifice rituals by checking out some of the music before I buy it.

:rockon:i think downloading music is junk not as good quality and if your downloading your favorite band then your making their life harder by taking money form them that they need as much as you and i i have over 180 cds and not one of them is burned or stolen i bought them all theres no better feeling then knowing what your doing to help other could help you in the long run what if you were a signer would you want you music being stolen by millions of people every day just think of all the money you would lose granted most people dont do it for the money they do it because they love it but they need to make a living also i have been a victim of having my own work stolen it sux because this piece could be real popular but i guess it dont matter because im getting no credit for it it almost makes you wanna kick the living helll out of the person/peoples that are doing it. dont be so stingy with your money go out and buy cds :drummer:

Mindcrime, you are so right about the two good songs per cd thing. People are like, "those poor artists, it's not right to rip them off" blah, blah, blah, but in the end cds are hardly ever art anymore, they're just nicely packaged cost effective products, except that the inferior ones aren't released with generic brand prices, like most other products are. My latest personal example is jet, anyone who tells me each song on that cd adds up to $20 bucks must have a cd collection that spans only this last month.

Happy to be Canadian... We can do all the downloading we want and no one can say or do anything about it. But I do agree with buying CDs. But now there should be incentive to buy, like a DVD, or somthing extra.

An appeals court recently ruled that Americans can to.

That's all it is anymore, commercial propaganda. The record industry had to take a major slash on compact disc prices, because of the lack in recent sales, what they don't realize is, that they should be trying to market talented musicians, instead of the quick burn fad artists. I'm not saying all music today is bad, there are some good bands out there, but they don't get much radio airplay.

Hey, pdxchump, if I were you I would dump WMP for reasons too numerous to mention here. As for your problem, if you mean when you play original pressed CD's I would recommend downloading Winamp and a plugin called 'gapless'. Propertly configured, it even works with Dark Side Of The Moon.

As for burning CD's I use Acoustica. You can totally eliminate the gap between songs.

Hey Cosmosis, You totally made my day! I just downloaded Win Amp and the plug in. It works beautifully!! ::

What's even better is that Win Amp is tied in with E-music. E music currently has a promo for 50 free songs. Their selection is not all that great but their download format is MP3!! :coolio:

Thanks again! You ROCK!!

Hey no problem. I really love winamp. Its fast and lightweight. There's hundreds of DPS and visualizations for free (no need for a keygen ;)) Plays most of audio and video files even ogg right out of the box.

On the weekends I add the mother directory where all my mp3's are (reaching 10,000 now), randomize the order and leave it playing all weekend long. Even when I go out, I leave it on, so when I come back, I got music playing already ;)

I'm glad you like it. Too bad AOL bought it, but it's still free. I just wish they went open source. Most Linux distros come with a WA like player called XMMS. You can even use the winamp skins with it.

I used KazaaPlus (the $30 a year version) for a long time but it was slow and the selection kept going downhill. A friend of mine recommended BearShare and I love it! Fast, and it's not inundated with a lot of 'fake' songs in their network (yet!)

Check it out.

Only 1 or 2 good songs per CD? Man you guys are listening to the wrong kind of music. As of Kazaa having the spyware and ad-ware, you gotta get Kazza-lite. It's a free hack of KMD with a bunch of cool xtra features. I used to love Kazaa mainly because there was hardly any song that I couldt find, ever the rarest of the rarest. But seems like the IRAA targets Kazaa users mostly, so the number of sharers have dropped greatly and theres just too many dummy files. What p1$$ me off is that ppl download the bad files and I guess they never even listen to it and keep sharing the bad song. I've encountered songs shared by hundreds of users that are bad. Even the real old stuff. Even songs by John Lennon and Bob Marley, who are long gone and cannot collect from the sale of their music. I hardly download songs anymore and Im tired of the bad 'albumwrap' files that dont extract. Seems like the collective IQ of Kazza users isnt very high. Not to mention the viruses on software shared there.

As for d/l albums I love Bit Torrent. If you have'nt tried it yet, do a search and d/l a client. My headquarter for torrent links is suprnova.org but they are all over the internet. As for IRC I use Mirc and the search engine ircspy.com.

Do I feel guilty? Not a bit. Many of the albums I d/l, I already had on record, now they tell me I hace to buy it again if I want it in digital form. I know it takes money to remaster and transfer to digital, but I think they already more than made up for it. A recent study showed that it costs about 1.25 to put a CD on the shelf, after royalties and marketing and all that. And they wanna charge me $20? Musicians dont make that much money from records sales. Most of their gain is in touring. That's why I don't mind paying for tickets, even though the producers take a big cut too. If I see a local band and I like it, I buy the CD without thinking about it, especialy when you give the money directly to one of the musicians. Also I'm starting to gather too many material possesions and I wanna keep my interests mobile. Carying 300-400 CDs around it's a real pain, so I might as well rip 'em all (insert picture of bloody hammer here)and sell them or give them away.

Don't the record labels and movie companies have and make enough money? The more you have, the more you want. Same goes for MP3s.

Sorry about the rant :stars:

I don't think KazaaLite is available to download any longer. I couldn't find it anymore and a friend was going to let me use his CD to put it on my laptop. That was before I discovered BearShare, though.

Is it out there in cyberspace somewhere, Cosmosis?

Oh my bad, Kazaa lite is no more. I think Sharman shut them down. But some other people took over the project and now it's called Kazaa Resurrection. Different name, same code and same network. To me, the best feature is unlimited 'search more' which results on more sources to d/l from and things you wouldnt think are there eventually pop up. Here's a link:

http://download.yacapa.com/download/1194.html

If the link doesn't work do a Google on download kazza resurrection. And remmember that using any hacked version of the Kazaa software is against their EULA. But I think they are too buzy collecting cash from all those nasty spyware companies.

HTH and happy downloading.

Al Bundy is the perfect avatar for you! What you 'say' on the forums just has a certain Bundyesque to it.

Yea. Life runs him over and he can't complain cuz nobody listens. But at the end of the day, he's always got a beer waiting for him. I just wish I dont end up as a shoe salesman. ::

I've got KaZaa Lite++, running DSL, For a 128 bit rate song, (CD Quality,) depending on traffic and source, stuff will run a BW anywhere from .5kbs ~ 180kbs or more.

I have just D/L an entire Disc, (43Mb) in less than 10 min.

I've had KaZaa for about 2yrs. I've been able to find some of the most obscure music, (Mason Proffit "Two Hangmen," Long John Baldry "Don't Try To Lay No Boogie Woogie On The King Of R & R" etc.)

I had Bearshare for a while, There was so much I could never find, and when I did find it, always had to wait so long before I could get in line to start D/L.

I'll stick w/ KaZaa....
