Hey, i was wondering if anyone knew the name of this song, and who it is by, it goes something like:

The Roof, the roof, the roof is on fire,

The Roof, the roof, the roof is on fire,

We don't need no water let the mother (eyore) burn,

Burn mother(eeyore) burn, burn

If anyone can tell me about it that'd be awesome

It's an old school rap single from 1984 called "The Roof Is On Fire" by Rockmaster Scott and the Dynamic Three.

You can hear a sample here: It's song #3. The sample is of the rap portion of the song, not the chorus.

Hip-Hop From The Top: Part 2 - "Roof Is On Fire"

It has been covered by other artists also. I believe Bloodhound Gang recently used it. I know the chorus is the same in their song but I don't know if they kept the lyrics the same or just used the chorus as a sample.

I know there is a dance song with that as a chorus, and the rest goes like "follow the leader leader leader follow the leader (clap clap clap)." It's an easy dance, because all you have to do is do whatever the leader is doing. It could have been a P-Funk song originally though, a lot of dance music (and rap for that matter) samples P-Funk.

no no no, it's "fire water burn" by the bloodhound gang

it came out about 7-8 years ago, everybody in school found it incredibly amusing :P

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire,

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire,

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire,

We don't need no water let the mother*** burn,

Burn mother**** burn.

Hello my name is Jimmy Pop and I'm a dumb white guy,

I'm not old or new but middle school fifth grade like junior high,

I don't know mofo if y'all peeps be buggin' give props to my ho cause she all fly,

But I can take the heat cause I'm the other white meat known as 'Kid Funky Fried',

Yeah I'm hung like planet Pluto hard to see with the naked eye,

But if I crashed into Uranus I would stick it where the sun don't shine,

Cause I'm kind of like Han Solo always stroking my own wookie,

I'm the root of all that's evil yeah but you can call me cookie,

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire,

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire,

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire,

We don't need no water let the mother*** burn,

Burn mother*** burn.

Yo yo this hard-core ghetto gangster image takes a lot of practice,

I'm not black like Barry White no I am white like Frank Black is,

So if man is five and the devil is six than that must make me seven,

This honkey's gone to heaven,

But if I go to hell then I hope I burn well,

I'll spend my days with J.F.K., Marvin Gaye, Martha Raye, and Lawrence Welk,

And Kurt Cobain, Kojak, Mark Twain and Jimi Hendrix's poltergeist,

And Webster yeah Emmanuel Lewis cause he's the anti-christ,

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire,

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire,

The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire,

We don't need no water let the mother*** burn,

Burn mother*** burn.

Everybody here we go,

Ohh Ohh,

C'mon party people,

Ohh Ohh,

Throw your hands in the air,

Ohh Ohh,

C'mon party people,

Ohh Ohh,

Wave 'em like you don't care,

Ohh Ohh,

C'mon party people,

Ohh Ohh,

Everbody say ho,

Ohh Ohh,

C'mon party people,

I find it amusing that they added Grandmaster Scott's lyrics to their song to make themselves some quick cash.

Doesn't any of these hip-hoppers write their own choruses anymore?

They all seem to sample from someone else's hit song.

I hope they're giving him royalties. =:P

Hi Rachel,

The Bloodhound Gang did have a big hit with another song in 2000.

Remember the song, "The Bad Touch"

The chorus went like this:

You and me baby ain't nothin' but mammals

So let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel

thanks to everyone who replied to my question. I didn't realise that the main chorus part of the song was used in a few songs, but i'm guessing that the version i know is the Beastie boys version since I was born in '89. I'm guessing that they must have used donkey sounds instead of beeping in their censored version and this is what i'm thinking of. My sister used to play this a few years ago but i had no idea who sang it, so thanks.

First off - The Bloodhound Gang Lyrics are NOTHING at all like the original ones from Rockmaster Scott's. And to put it straight, the lines "we don't need no water, let the mutha F'er burn" weren't even in the actual recording - it was something Rockmaster Scott had the people shout back only at live shows. Back in the day of true old school rap, you didn't record curse words on your track for fear radio stations wouldn't play your songs. If you were a B-boy, you pretty much would only swear live to get a pop from the fly girls.

Just recently, I looked everywhere for lyrics to Rockmaster Scott's "The Roof Is On Fire" and I have come to the conclusion that IT DOES NOT EXIST ON THE INTERNET, due to how old school the song really is. (Al Gore had not even invented the Internet at the time this track was released.)

Anyhow "The Roof Is On Fire" by Rockmaster Scott and the Dynamic Three will live on by their lyrics here, possibly for the first time, transcribed in Cyberspace for everyone here to see. Kenny Casanova (of KennyCasanova.com) listened to the track over and over himself to put the words down forever for your viewing pleasure. (...and yes, I have NO LIFE.)

(Just a quick piece of trivia for you Old Schoolers; while researching this, I learned that one of Rockmaster Scott's "Dynamic Three" was none other than Slick Rick. Rockmaster gave him his start, before he made the jump to become Doug E Fresh's hype-man and latter a solo artist of his own. He is most known today for climbing the rap charts with "La-di-Dah-di we like to Party" a song that was covered many years latter by Snoop Dogg.) :afro:
