Tell Me About T-Rex

Recommended Posts

I have many T-Rex albums going back to his folky/flower power days...long acoustic hippy stuff. Thank God Marc Bolan (or Bolin???) plugged in...Flo and Eddie (The Turtles) sing a lot of background stuff on his later work. Ringo took some of the album artwork (The cover of The Slider for sure).

MUSICAL INTERLUDE:

:guitar: :drummer: :guitar: :drummer: :guitar: :drummer:

"You're so sweet

you're so fine

I want you all and everything just to be mine

'Cos you're my baby,

'cos you're my love

Oh girl, I'm just a Jeepster for your love

You slide so good

with bones so fair

You've got the universe reclining in your hair

'Cos you're my baby

yes, you're my love

Oh girl, I'm just a Jeepster for your love

Just like a car

you're pleasing to behold

I'll call you Jaguar if I may be so bold

'Cos you're my baby

'cos you're my love

Oh girl, I'm just a Jeepster for your love"

"Electric Warrior" is a very good album to start with, it is one of the most important records in glam rock. I personally like "The Slider" better though. Heres some song recomendations:

Mambo Sun, Bang a Gong (Get It On), Planet Queen, Metal Guru, The Slider, Rock On, Telegram Sam, Rabbit Fighter, 20th Century Boy, Mystic Lady.

Just watched a doco on the 'Born To Boogie' movie. Rolan Bolan, Marc's son, was interviewing people who worked with T-Rex on this project.

They showed some footage from the movie, including scenes with T-Rex, Elton John and Ringo Starr in the studio and the concert that was filmed. Marc and T-Rex looked absolutely electric. The music sounded so fresh and new, I think I am going to have to buy the movie which has just been released on dvd.

Hi Katie. I thought too much doco, not enough music - maybe I turned it off too early. It's very hard to get a "best of" with all their Hits, eg their biggest Hits in Australia often aren't included - "Hot Love" (#72 U.S.) and "Children Of The Revolution" (didn't even chart in the U.S.).

You are KIDDING!! Hot Love only got to #72 in the US???? Children Of The Revolution didn't even chart?? :o:o:o:o That is just crazy!!

I thought it was really great...I enjoyed the bits with Marc Bolan on stage just totally rocking out. The few snippets they showed of Marc sitting on the stage playing acoustic guitar sounded great, I wish I knew the names of the songs.

I think I will get the 'Born To Boogie' dvd and soundtrack tomorrow :D

I love this one (is the title "Ride A White Swan"?:

Ride it on out like a bird in the skyway,

Ride it on out like you were a bird,

Fly it all out like an eagle in a sunbeam,

Ride it all out like you were a bird.

Wear a tall hat like they do in the old days

Wear a tall hat and a tattered gown

Ride a white swan like the people of the Beltane,

Wear your hair long, babe, you can't go wrong.

Catch a bright star and place it on your forehead,

Say a few spells and baby, there you go,

Take a black cat and sit it on your shoulder,

And in the morning you'll know all you know.

Electric Warrior is one of my favorite albums of alltime. If you are completely foreign to T. Rex begin with this album. This album underscores the zenith of glam rock. If you thoroughly appreciated this magnificent album listen to Tanx or the Slider. Zip Gun has its moments, but was deemeedd a commercial failure. Iw ould refrain from listening to that Iyou are new to T. Rex.
