here's one 90s song i fell in love with ever since i first heard it on the radio :

elliot smith "waltz II"

irst the mic then a half cigarette

singing cathy's clown

that's the man that she's married to now

that's the girl that he takes around town

she appears composed, so she is, i suppose

who can really tell?

she shows no emotion at all

stares into space like a dead china doll

i'm never gonna know you now, but i'm gonna love you anyhow

now she's done and they're calling someone

such a familiar name

i'm so glad that my memory's remote

'cos i'm doing just fine hour to hour, note to note

here it is, the revenge to the tune,

"you're no good,

you're no good you're no good you're no good"

can't you tell that it's well understood?

i'm never gonna know you now, but i'm gonna love you anyhow

i'm here today and expected to stay on and on and on

i'm tired

i'm tired

looking out on the substitute scene

still going strong

XO, mom

it's ok, it's alright, nothing's wrong

tell mr. man with impossible plans to just leave me alone

in the place where i make no mistakes

in the place where i have what it takes

i'm never gonna know you now, but i'm gonna love you anyhow

i'm never gonna know you now, but i'm gonna love you anyhow

i'm never gonna know you now, but i'm gonna love you anyhow

and naother that i thought reflected exactly how i felt

harvey danger "flagpole sitta"

i had visions, i was in them

i was looking into the mirror

to see a little bit clearer

rottenness and evil in me

fingertips have memories

mine can't forget the curves of your body

and when i feel a bit naughty

i run it up the flagpole and see who salutes

(but no one ever does)

i'm not sick but i'm not well

and i'm so hot cause i'm in hell

been around the world and found

that only stupid people are breeding

the cretins cloning and feeding

and i don't even own a tv

put me in the hospital for nerves

and then they had to commit me

you told them all i was crazy

they cut off my legs now i'm an amputee, god damn you

i'm not sick but i'm not well

and i'm so hot cause i'm in hell

i'm not sick but i'm not well

and it's a sin to live so well

i wanna publish zines

and rage against machines

i wanna pierce my tongue

it doesn't hurt, it feels fine

the trivial sublime

i'd like to turn off time

and kill my mind

you kill my mind

paranoia paranoia

everybody's coming to get me

just say you never met me

i'm going underground with the moles

hear the voices in my head

i swear to god it sounds like they're snoring

but if you're bored then you're boring

the agony and the irony, they're killing me

i'm not sick but i'm not well

and i'm so hot cause i'm in hell

i'm not sick but i'm not well

and it's a sin to live so well

Hi Levi's. Try these:

Collective Soul--"The World I Know", "Gel", "Shine"

Sublime - "What I Got", "Wrong Way", "Santeria"

Live - The album "Throwing Copper"

I like a lot of the dance stuff from the '90s, too. I'll have to fish out a couple of compilation CD's I have and get back to you.....

White town - Your woman

I heard this one yesterday and also last week... one of those memory bringers! da daa dadaa da dadaa da dadaa

Another band that I remember from the 90s (cuz I was older when it came out) and became a massive fan of is Kula Shaker. During my exams some 4 years ago my mom told me to recite the Gayatri Mantra to help me concentrate. I didn't want to go through the effort so instead I decided to try out this one band I remebered from the later 90s that did this kinda thing and a Kula fixation was born! I tried another similar band recently and barring one song, it sucked!

And I think 'Island in the Sun' by Weezer is so cute!!! Have you seen the baby animals video?

SUCH GREAT SONGS!!!!!

the nineties rocked really, when you think of it! i can't even think of anything that hasn't already been mentioned, wish so much i had all these songs!

btw i was a blur girl and argued so much with one of my best friends who loved oasis about it! (actually it was more of a damon -v- liam argument... we were hormonal twelve year old girls!). but i loved and still love both bands' music!

Has anyoe mentioned Ned's Atomic Dustbin yet? :) I had a very soft spot for "Grey Cells Green."

Also in that same vein, Jesus Jones "Right Here Right Now" Material Issue "Diane". There was Liz Phair with Supernova, Local H had a good song with "Copacetic (Bound for the Ground)" Harvey Danger had a good song called "Flagpole Sitta," Primus had "Jerry Was a Racecar Driver..." there are tons I am remembering but I wonder if I am hitting the mark for you or completely missing it! :)

I like Rusty Cage too, but it didn't make my "cut", partly because my system for selection was flawed, causing some "essentials" to be overlooked.

But as Daslied points out "Jesus Christ Pose" is just about as heavy as it gets. I'm not normally such a "heavy rock" fan, but I can distinctly recall the circumstances in which I first heard this song, and being totally awestruck by its immensity. A masterpiece of its kind.
