Batman
Is the part of "And You And I" with the tubey sounding keyboards a mellotron?
CaptainMikeRS
Many Divine Comedy songs use a Mellotron in the studio and then apply a session orchestra on stage but some of the songs include: The Summerhouse National Express Generation Sex Becoming More Like Alfie and many many more, virtually every song to be precise. Aunt_Acid
Is the part of "And You And I" with the tubey sounding keyboards a mellotron? Yes. I love the sound of the "three violins" sound in a mellotron. If they weren't so damn overpriced, I'd get one.
Batman
Yes. I love the sound of the "three violins" sound in a mellotron. If they weren't so damn overpriced, I'd get one. What exactly is the difference between a keyboard and a mellotron? Different effects?
Aunt_Acid
What do you mean by a keyboard? Like a synthesizer? A synthesizer uses oscillators and other types of circuitry to produce tones, and mellotrons use magnetic tape.
Batman
Oh. So they make a different sound, I'm assuming.

Malakin
John Paul Jones used a mellotron on several Zeppelin songs, No Quarter and Kashmir, most notably. I read an interested interview with him who knows where anymore.. But he mentioned that he hated using mellotrons live, because they had to get all the songs that used it out of the way early in the show, because of all the heat generated by the lights and whatnot, the tapes inside would stretch, and after long, it wouldn't sound right.
