Carl Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 Last week was going great in the world of Songfacts. We were getting tons of traffic, the site was behaving beautifully, song information was pouring in, the birds were singing... So it's late Friday night and I'm about to go to bed. As an insomniac, I have to build up a sizable "sleep dept" before I can get any R.E.M.s, so I had been up for a while and ready for a good, healthy slumber. We had some good new song entries, so I figured I would update the database before I crashed (bad choice of words). Without getting too technical, all hell broke loose. The site went completely wacky and nothing would bring it back to life. Of course, this happened early on Memorial Day weekend when any tech support person worth his slide ruler was off duty. Let's just say my sleep debt reached unhealthy levels. Some nice people did what they could and we were able to get the database loaded and bring the site to life. We'll look into why it happened and do our best to make sure it doesn't happen again. One thing I hate about these total meltdowns is that there is no way to let you guys know what's going on. We couldn't even keep a homepage up for more than a few minutes. Hopefully, all will be well and we can learn from this one.
edna Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 Never mind, we love you anyways!!! :: Thanks for keeping this site ruling...
Levis Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 I can see the light!! Carl, Sara I love you guys!! I haven't told you that! *sniffle*. you guys are
RonJonSurfer Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 I understand that you do this on purpose from time to time to highlight our emotional and psychological dependence on Songfacts. As we sit there, dumbfounded, believing in our inner recesses, that you have singled "just me" due to some indiscretion...we keep entering songfacts new ways only to find we are still shut out. then on a sunny Monday morning...You are back and all is right with the world...but lurking in our minds is the thought that "It could happen again"...You guys are smart!
SoulGirl Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 haha, ronjohn the conspiracy theorist! i missed the site too, thank heavens all is back to normal and thank you for working hard to get it so!

RonJon, you are so right!! These thoughts were also racing through my head!! Seriously, it is great to be able to get back into the site. Next time, can you please crash on a weekday rather than the weekend? ::
Foxy Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 If I'm honest, I didn't know Songfacts was down until another member e-mailed me to see if I knew anything about it.... Shame on me!!
Foxy Posted June 2, 2005 Report Posted June 2, 2005 It's true! I made a decison to stay away last weekend, and Songfacts was down anyway! Until Brad e-mailed me I had noooooo idea ::
edna Posted June 3, 2005 Report Posted June 3, 2005 ...big mess this morning too... now, if I´m posting it means that I got to get in... ::
Levis Posted June 4, 2005 Report Posted June 4, 2005 Is this going to be a regular happening over the weekend? because I'd like to be prepared!
Kevin Posted June 4, 2005 Report Posted June 4, 2005 Seems like we having minor glitches again this weekend (Fri/Sat ) ... having trouble getting in ? Changing pages , etc. ?? Just me ?
edna Posted June 4, 2005 Report Posted June 4, 2005 Just me ? No, I couldn´t post nor nothing yesterday (I only tried twice). Seems today it´s bleeped up again... What´s the matter, songfacts?
katie_sane Posted June 4, 2005 Report Posted June 4, 2005 I coudn't get into the site at all yesterday. This morning it was okay, and I am in here now but the pages take about 10 minutes to load.
Kevin Posted June 5, 2005 Report Posted June 5, 2005 Oh. SURE , Foxy ! :: You LIVE here ! Brad ! That wasn't very nice ! You should apologise to Foxy .....
Carl Posted June 5, 2005 Author Report Posted June 5, 2005 This weekend was a little rough as well. We'll keep working at it.
edna Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Is it me, my computer, my connection, or is it hapening to other posters too? I cannot reach the message boards since last weekend. I get it a couple of times but then it´s gone again...
invisible_r Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 no, me too. seems to be ok now but i don't know for how long
Carl Posted June 10, 2005 Author Report Posted June 10, 2005 What's frustrating is that we make some tweaks and everything will be great for a while, and then it will bog down again. We're going to bring in some new blood to look under the hood. We appreciate your continued patience.
Mike Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Oh, that's a relief, I thought is was a history lesson -- This is what it was like loading graphics on a computer with a 9600 baud-rate modem in 1994. ::
RonJonSurfer Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 That's a good marketing spin, call it Classic Computing. All the best computer technology of the 60's and 70's. Have a contest to win a Bowmar Brain Calculator. Original value $200...same technology today $1.89. All kidding aside, songfacts is worth the wait. Yeah it's frustrating, but it will be dealt with in time. The cost of new equipment and consulting is astronomical. None of us a paying for these services. Keep checking for the fix...I'm sure "It Won't Be Long" Beatles
