Jimmy1104
I have to believe Elton John had a number one every year in the seventies (1970 - 1979).
Brad_M
You didn't state if you were looking for chart history in the U.S. or in the U.K. Which are you looking for? I don't know about the U.K. but the groups mentioned in the above posts don't match your criteria in the U.S. Cliff Richard has never had a song hit #1 on the U.S. Billboard Top 100 chart. His highest charting single was "Devil Woman" which reached # 6. Queen has only had 2 songs reach #1 on the U.S. Billboard Top 100 chart. Both were in 1980. "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "Another One Bites The Dust". Elton John has had many songs hit #1 on the U.S. Billboard Top 100 chart and also the U.S. Adult Contemporary chart for over 10 years total but not for 10 years consecutively. He has had the following songs hit #1 on the U.S. Billboard Top 100 chart. 1973 - Crocodile Rock 1974 - Bennie And The Jets 1975 - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds 1975 - Philadelphia Freedom 1975 - Island Girl 1976 - Don't Go Breaking My Heart [with Kiki Dee] (this song also was a #1 Adult Contemporary hit) 1986 - That's What Friends Are For [with Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder] (this song was also a #1 R&B hit and a #1 Adult Contemporary Hit) 1992 - Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me (this song also was a #1 Adult Contemporary hit) 1997 - Candle In The Wind 1997 [this is a new version with new lyrics honoring Princess Diana. The original version only hit #6 on the U.S. Billboard Top 100 chart in 1988] The following songs were #1 U.S. Adult Contemporary Hits in addition to the ones stated above but did not hit #1 on the Billboard Top 100 chart: 1973 - Daniel 1976 - Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word 1979 - Mama Can't Buy You Love 1980 - Little Jeannie 1982 - Blue Eyes 1988 - I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That 1989 - Healing Hands 1992 - The One 1993 - Simple Life 1994 - Can You Feel The Love Tonight 1995 - Believe 1997 - Something About The Way You Look Tonight My sources stop at the year 1999. Whether he had any #1's after this year, I don't know.
