Batman Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 What are the worst remakes of a song you've ever heard, or heard of? The two that spring to mind for me are actually ones I've never heard, personally, but sound funny. I heard that Hilary Duff did a cover of "My Generation" and I've also heard that Avril Lavigne did a cover of "Chop Suey" by System of a Down.
Steel2Velvet Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 I beleive there was a thread on this matter a few months back. But, the worst cover I ever heard (by far) was William Shatner's (of Star Trek) version of The Beatles' "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds."
Harguitay Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 But he wasn't serious. That album was a spoof. "Denny Crane!"
ImThatGuyToo Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 I keep hearing this weird pop-rock cover of Simon & Garfunkel's Hazy Shade of Winter, and it's not necessarily bad, it just makes me mad whenever I hear it. I don't even know who it's by, but it's a female lead singer.

I don't even know who it's by, but it's a female lead singer. Is it the Bangles cover? I think it´s not that bad but sure, if you compare it to the S&G´s original it´s logic not to like it.
Crazy Don Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Hands down, I would have to say Reba McEntire's mangling of the Everly Brothers' "Cathy's Clown" has to be one of the worst cover versions anywhere! My parents were country music fans and whenever they heard her horrid version, they switched the station!
Harguitay Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 It wasn't a cover but a remix I heard a few years ago. Rush did a horrible second take on Tom Sawyer, to try to capture another generation fan base. It didn't work for either generation....
Levis Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 how about britney "satisfaction"? eek! tsk tsk tsk.... so sad Hilary Duff did a cover of "My Generation" You're kidding? Bananarama did a Careless Whisper cover that I hear and believe is horrible. Fortunately I haven't heard it

Rush did a horrible second take on Tom Sawyer, to try to capture another generation fan base. It didn't work for either generation.... Rush didn't redo that song, it was covered by some metal group for Small Soldiers and that's the version you hear "remade"

I don't even know who it's by, but it's a female lead singer. It's by Bangles and I actually like it. Probably because I heard their version before the original.
Harguitay Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 I hate research. You're half right, Mike. It really was a remix done by a DJ-someone for "Small Soldiers." Still a Rush project, but so incomprehensibly bad that I considered burning my Rush collection. http://www.2112.net/artifacts/rushinsalutes/track8/8.html
_jr_ Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Good Lord, that monstrosity Madonna did called "American Pie". Top that. And I love the Bangles cover of Hazy Shade of Winter. It's gritty, and it rocks. ******************** Let me clarify this: The guitar has a gritty sound that I enjoy. (before anyone jumps me for saying the Bangles are gritty)
ImThatGuyToo Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 jr's got it. Worst cover of all time- Madonna - American Pie. Whoever gave her the rights to record that song should pay.
jman14141414 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Another Brick In The Wall-Korn Korn should be banned from playing any PF song(do they even play the solo?) Avril did a cover of Metallica's "Fuel" and made it possible for a song that already sucks to suck even more.
stocky Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I can beat ya all Rolf Harris's version of stairway to heaven
katie_sane Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 how about britney "satisfaction"? eek! That reminds me of this stupid girl I went to school with. She sang 'Satisfaction' on stage at assembly one day and it was totally pathetic.
DiggsUK Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 "I can beat ya all Rolf Harris's version of stairway to heaven" I'm sorry but I disagree. At least that song makes you smile. Now if LZ did a cover of 'Two Little Boys', that would be something! Regards
johnnyguitar Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Have you heard Dolly Parton's version of Stairway to Heaven? or ?
invisible_r Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 no but i can't even imagine what it would be like!
Jenny Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I like Sheryl Crow, but her remakes of "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "The First Cut is the Deepest" really stink! Oh and that dance remix version of "Heaven" by Bryan Adams....very soulless.
SoulGirl Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 jamie cullum's butchering of 'lover, you should've come over' by jeff buckley. this is one of my favourtie songs in the world and jamie cullum's version is just appalling, when i hear it i feel upset, angered and nauseated all at the same time!!!
odiferousglue Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I heard a concert clip of Marilyn Manson doing a cover of "Hit Me Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears. I kid you not. He was probably just joking around , but still....
invisible_r Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 travis covered "one more time" as well, it was hilarious!
Tenacious_Peaches Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Britney needs her ass whipped for 3 transgressions against humanity: "Satisfaction" "I Love Rock and Roll" "My Prerogative"
