Phew. I read over most of this topic, so that I'd be able to pick something that hasn't been mentioned before. It is interesting how some bands manage to be one-hit wonders in certain places and make it big in others. Personally, I wouldn't think A-Ha, Soft Cell, T. Rex, and a few others as one hit wonders, but radio programming is different in other areas of the world. It's all good :headphones:

Here are my picks for my fave one hit wonders:

"Susanna" by The Art Company

"Doot Doot" by Freur

"Never Never" by The Assembly

"The Promise" by When In Rome

"Two Occasions" by The Deele

"Would I Lie To You?" by Charles And Eddie

"I've Been Thinking About You" by Londonbeat

"Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand" by The Primitive Radio Gods

"Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve Pipe

"Nearly Lost You" by The Screaming Trees

bittersweet symphony is by 'the verve'... i've seen a lot of people get confused with that one. 'verve pipe' had 'the freshman'. i love 'em both...but is the verve one-hit?

i've been waitin for a post like this... i don't think ALL he good songs have been named. a zillion more come to my mind.

'mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm' by the crash test dummies

'no rain by' blind melon (i know its already been mentioned but i need it to be mentioned again cuz i love it!)

'cat's in the cradle' and 'everything about you' by ugly kid joe (one of them is a hit right? or both?)

'dancing in the moonlight' and 'achilles' heel' by toploader (think the first one made it BIG)

and i heard this one recently and realised how i really liked it 'its all about the money' by meja

another childhood favourite which i haven't stopped liking is 'Tom's Diner' by DNA feat. Suzanne Vega (doo doo doo doo do do doo doo)

And I really really really like "Hey Jealousy' by the Gin Blossoms

and then of course 'What's Up' by 4-non blondes. They deserved to be more then just one-hit wonders. So did blind melon... i love ALL their songs so far...not just 'no rain'.

No more names come to mind... the lemonheads aren't one-hit wonders right?

They're definetly not one-hit wonders!

They've had...

- Bittersweet Smphony

- Sonnet

- The Drugs Don't Work

- Lucky Man

- Come On

..just to mention a few!

Their album 'Urban Hymns' was very popular when it first came out, they were/are one of the most famous 'Brit Pop' bands.

Turning Japanese - The Vapors... :guitar:

Fab song!!!!!

**MUSICAL INTERLUDE**

I got your picture of me and you

You wrote "I love you" I wrote "me too"

I sit here staring and there's nothing else to do

Oh it's in color

Your hair is brown

Your eyes are hazel

And soft as clouds

I have to kiss you when there's no one else around

I got your picture, I got your picture

I'd like a million of you over myself

I want a doctor to take a picture

So I can look at you from inside as well

You've got me turning up and turning down

and turning in and turning 'round

I'm turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese

I really think so

Turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese

I really think so

Turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese

I really think so

Turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese

I really think so

I got your picture, I got your picture

I'd like a million of you over myself

I want a doctor to take a picture

So I can look at you from inside as well

You've got me turning up and turning down

and turning in and turning 'round

I'm turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese

I really think so

Turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese

I really think so

Turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese

I really think so

Turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese

I really think so

No sex, no drugs, no wine, no women

No fun, no sin, no you, no wonder it's dark

Everyone around me is a total stranger

Everyone avoids me like a Psyclone Ranger

Everyone

That's why I'm turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese

I really think so

Turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese

I really think so

Turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese

I really think so

Turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese

Black Is Black

Los Bravos

Black is black

I want my baby back

It's gray, it's gray

Since she went away, Ooh-Ooh

What can I do

'Cause I-I-I-I-I'm feelin' blue

If I had my way

She'd be back today

But she don't intend

To see me again, Ooh-Ooh

What can I do

'Cause I-I-I-I-I'm feelin' blue

I can't choose

It's too much to lose

My love's too strong

Wow! Maybe if she

would come back to me

Then it can't go wrong

Bad is bad

That I feel so sad

It's time, it's time

That I found peace of mind, Ooh-Ooh

What can I do

'Cause I-I-I-I-I'm feelin' blue

I can't choose

It's too much to lose

My love's too strong

Wow! Maybe if she

would come back to me

Then it can't go wrong

Black is black

I want my baby back

It's gray, it's gray

Since she went away, Ooh-Ooh

What can I do

'Cause I-I-I-I-I'm feelin' blue

'Cause I-I-I-I-I'm feelin' blue

One of my favorite one hit wonders is..........

The Hustle by Van McCoy (1975)

The disco era needed a soundtrack by which hedonists could get busy on the dance floor, and the lite jazz groove perfectly fit the bill in 1976. Honk once if you love flutes. Honk twice if you've ever gotten busy on the dance floor.

Oops...almost forgot to answer the question of the original poster of this thread. Hard to say what my favorite one hit wonder song is because there are so many. I will go with a few and all out of the seventies.

Suavecito - Malo

One Tin Soldier - Coven

Mississippi Queen - Mountain

I Don't Like Mondays - Boomtown Rats

Oh Babe, What Would You Say - Hurricane Smith

T Rex were hardly a one hit wonder!!

Jimmy... you also listed Thin Lizzy and Patti Smith...

I agree with both of you. If you look on the list Richie Havens is also there. Now we all know he was great! The fact of one hit wonders is they only had one single on the charts, I believe in the Top 40 if not the Top 100. One hit wonders do refer to the artist, not the song as well.

If you take a look at the list I posted above you will find quite a few arguments about who and who is not a one hit wonder, but in keeping with the definition of one hit wonders they all qualified.

Patti Smith hit the charts with "In exelcis Dio (Gloria)" and "Hey Frederick", as I can recall... I will have to check... though if you checkd already, you must be right.

In any case, I wouldn´t apply that definition to "one hit wonder". Then Lou Reed would also be in that list with "Walk on the wild side", for instance...
