Mick Fleetwood Pioneers 'Quiet' Rock

Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood is championing "quiet" rock concerts to safeguard fans' hearing.

The star attended the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio on Monday, which featured a performance by the usually noisy rock band The Eagles of Death Metal, who played two songs without amplification.

The audience listened to the results through miniature radio receivers.

Fleetwood, 57, who suffers from partial hearing loss thanks to years of performing at noisy concerts, has high hopes the initiative will make people more aware of the long-term damage caused by extended exposure to loud music.

He says, "I hope this makes the point that you can wear ear protection at concerts and still enjoy the concert."

Fleetwood, who was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1998, is unsure whether the experiment will capture the public's imagination.

He added, "Who's to say? Could you see 18,000 people someday listening to Pick Floyd on headphones? Maybe, with a weird magic wand."
