RonJonSurfer
Starbucks Producing Stars Starbucks is no longer just about the coffee-it's breaking into the music business too. Among some of its musical projects are the Tina Turner compilation "All the Best," a limited-release of an acoustic "Jagged Little Pill" by Alanis Morissette and "Genius Loves Company," a Ray Charles project that won a Grammy. They are also starting a new project for up-and-coming artists titled Hear Music Now. The new label will soon be selling an acoustic performance by Antigone Rising, an all female quintet, during a limited release promotion. Starbucks Entertainment president Ken Lombard said of the new series, "We are not here to try to do anything other than bring a unique set of assets that will help the music business connect with its disenfranchised customers." Well, I suppose the Starbucks crowd may have a rep as beanie wearing and laptob toting folks, but does that make them music lovers? As long as production costs stay low for Starbucks, they are likely to make a profit. Might end up with more jaded folks walking around though-have you seen the line at Starbucks? Now you have to wait for your coffee and your music!
