CCR - Someday Never Comes Lyrics

First thing I remember was asking papa why

For there were many things I didn't know.

And daddy always smiled and took me by the hand

Saying someday you'll understand.

(chorus:)

Well I'm here to tell you now each and every mother's son

That you better learn it fast you better learn it young

'Cause someday never comes.

Well time and tears went by and I collected dust.

For there were many things I didn't know.

When daddy went away, he said, try to be a man,

And someday you'll understand.

Well, I'm here...

And then one day in April, I wasn't even there,

For there were many things I didn't know.

A son was born to me. Mama held his hand,

sayin' someday you'll understand.

Well, I'm here...

Think it was September, the year I went away,

For there were many things I didn't know.

And still I see him standing tryin' to be a man,

I said, someday you'll understand.

Well, I'm here to tell you now, each and every mother's son,

That you better learn it fast, you better learn it young,

'Cause someday never comes.

Oh, I´ll remember some more than fit better, I´m sure...

Carly Simon - It Was So Easy

(carly simon/jacob brackman)

I remember a time, rompin´ through the woods

Sun against our skin instead of clothes

When we felt hungry we would eat, whn we felt glad we would

dance

And whenever we felt drowsy we would doze

It was so easy then never takin´ any stands

It was so easy then, holdin´ hands

I remember a time when our fears could be named

And courage meant not refusing dares

I remember when we took such cares to step never on the cracks,

No only on the squares

Or else we´d be abducted by the bears

It was so easy then never makin´ any plans

It was so easy then, holdin´ hands

It was so easy then never makin any plans

It was so easy then, holdin´ hands

And now we are grown, with debts and regrets

And broken hearts and sentimental schemes

Now every tender failure seems to overthrow old dreams

Love can lead a normal woman to extremes

It was so easy once, holdin´ hands without a plan

It was so easy once holdin´ hands

Just holdin´ hands

I Don't Wanna Grow Up

- The Ramones

When I'm lyin' in my bed at nite

I don't wanna grow up

Nothing ever seems to turn out right

And I don't wanna grow up

How do you move in a world of fog that's always changing things

Makes the wish that I could be a dog

When I see the price that you pay

I don't wanna grow up

I don't ever wanna be that way

And I don't wanna grow up

Seems that folks turn into things that they never want

The only thing to live for is today...

I'm gonna put a hole in my T.V. set

I don't wanna grow up

Open up the medicine chest

I don't wanna grow up

I don't wanna have to shout it out

I don't want my hair to fall out

I don't wanna be filled with doubt

I don't wanna be a good boy scout

I don't wanna have to learn to count

I don't want the biggest amount

No I don't wanna grow up

Well when I see my parents fight

I don't wanna grow up

They all go out and drinkin' all night

And I don't wanna grow up

I'd rather stay here in my room

Nothin' out there but sad and gloom

I don't wanna live in a big old tomb on grand street

When I see the 5 o'clock news

I don't wanna grow up

Comb their hair and shine their shoes

I don't wanna grow up

Stay around in my old hometown

I don't wanna put no money down

I don't wanna get me a big old loan

Work them fingers to the bone

I don't wanna float on a broom

Fall in love, get married then boom

How the hell did I get here so soon

No I don't want to grow up

Sliver - Nirvana

Mom and dad went to a show

Dropped me off at Grandpa Joe's.

I kicked and screamed said please don't go

Grandma, take me home. {x8}

Had to eat my dinner there.

I had mashed potatos and stuff like that.

I couldn't chew my meat to good.

Grandma, take me home. {x8}

She said "why dont you stop your crying?

Go outside and ride your bike."

Thats what i did, i killed my toe.

Grandma, take me home. {x8}

After dinner, I had ice cream.

I fell asleep and watched TV.

I woke up in my mother's arms...

Grandma, take me home. {x19}

I want to be alone.

Growin' Up - Springsteen

GROWIN' UP

I stood stone-like at midnight suspended in my masquerade

I combed my hair till it was just right and commanded the night brigade

I was open to pain and crossed by the rain and I walked on a crooked crutch

I strolled all alone through a fallout zone and came out with my soul untouched

I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd but when they said "Sit down" I stood up.

Ooh-ooh growin' up

The flag of piracy flew from my mast, my sails were set wing to wing

I had a jukebox graduate for first mate, she couldn't sail but she sure could sing,

I pushed B-52 and bombed `em with the blues with my gear set stubborn on standing

I broke all the rules, strafed my old high school, never once gave thought to landing,

I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd but when they said "Come down" I threw up

Ooh-ooh growin' up

I took month-long vacations in the stratosphere and you know it's really hard to hold your breath.

I swear I lost everything I ever loved or feared, I was the cosmic kid in full costume dress

Well, my feet they finally took root in the earth but I got me a nice little place in the stars

And I swear I found the key to the universe in the engine of an old parked car

I hid in the mother breast of the crowd but when they said "Pull down" I pulled up

Ooh-ooh growin' up. Ooh-ooh growin' up

Eighteen by Alice Cooper

Lines form on my face and hands

Lines form from the ups and downs

I'm in the middle without any plans

I'm a boy and I'm a man

I'm eighteen

and I don't know what I want

Eighteen

I just don't know what I want

Eighteen

I gotta get away

I gotta get out of this place

I'll go runnin in outer space

Oh yeah

I got a

baby's brain and an old man's heart

Took eighteen years to get this far

Don't always know what I'm talkin' about

Feels like I'm livin in the middle of doubt

Cause I'm

Eighteen

I get confused every day

Eighteen

I just don't know what to say

Eighteen

I gotta get away

Lines form on my face and my hands

Lines form on the left and right

I'm in the middle

the middle of life

I'm a boy and I'm a man

I'm eighteen and I LIKE IT

Yes I like it

Oh I like it

Love it

Like it

Love it

Eighteen!

Eighteen!

Eighteen!

Eighteen and I LIKE IT

There was a TV show on British TV, "The growing pains of Adrian Mole", based on a book which was hilarious... I remember Ian Dury did the song but I don´t know what the title is to search for lyrics... it´s not under that name... I don´t even remember the words, but maybe if you do it could fit...??

I was laughing to tears when I read that book, and "More growing pains" too... I bought six or seven copies and gave them to my family and friends... I found the song I was looking for, it´s "Profoundly in love with Pandora", but it doesn´t have much to do with the actual pains of growing up...

BTW, wasn´t the title "The growing pains of..."? Or maybe that´s the TV show...?

Ben Folds Five "Still Fighting It"

Good morning, son.

I am a bird

Wearing a brown polyester shirt

You want a coke?

Maybe some fries?

The roast beef combo?s only $9.95

It?s okay, you don?t have to pay

I?ve got all the change

Everybody knows

It hurts to grow up

And everybody does

It?s so weird to be back here

Let me tell you what

The years go on and

We?re still fighting it, we?re still fighting it

And you?re so much like me

I?m sorry

Good morning, son

In twenty years from now

Maybe we?ll both sit down and have a few beers

And I can tell you ?bout today

And how I picked you up and everything changed

It was pain

Sunny days and rain

I knew you?d feel the same things

Everybody knows

It sucks to grow up

And everybody does

It?s so weird to be back here.

Let me tell you what

The years go on and

We?re still fighting it, we?re still fighting it

You?ll try and try and one day you?ll fly

Away from me

Good morning, son

I am a bird

It was pain

Sunny days and rain

I knew you?d feel the same things

Everybody knows

Tt hurts to grow up

And everybody does

It?s so weird to be back here.

Let me tell you what

The years go on and

We?re still fighting it, we?re still fighting it

Oh, we?re still fighting it, we?re still fighting it

And you?re so much like me

I?m sorry

AT SEVENTEEN

Janis Ian

I learned the truth at seventeen

That love was meant for beauty queens

And high school girls with clear skinned smiles

Who married young and then retired.

The valentines I never knew

The Friday night charades of youth

Were spent on one more beautiful

At seventeen I learned the truth.

And those of us with ravaged faces

Lacking in the social graces

Desperately remained at home

Inventing lovers on the phone

Who called to say come dance with me

and murmured vague obscenities

It isn't all it seems

At seventeen.

A brown eyed girl in hand me downs

Whose name I never could pronounce

said, Pity please the ones who serve

They only get what they deserve.

The rich relationed hometown queen

Married into what she needs

A guarantee of company

And haven for the elderly.

Remember those who win the game

Lose the love they sought to gain

Indebentures of quality

And dubious integrity.

Their small town eyes will gape at you

in dull surprise when payment due

Exceeds accounts received

At seventeen.

To those of us who know the pain

Of valentines that never came,

And those whose names were never called

When choosing sides for basketball.

It was long ago and far away

The world was younger than today

And dreams were all they gave for free

To ugly duckling girls like me.

We all play the game and when we dare

To cheat ourselves at solitaire

Inventing lovers on the phone

Repenting other lives unknown

That call and say, come dance with me

and murmur vague obscenities

At ugly girls like me

At seventeen.

Pearl Jam's "Jeremy"

At home drawing pictures of mountain tops with him on top.

Lemon yellow sun. Arms raised in a V.

And the dead lay in pools of maroon below.

Daddy didn't give attention, oh, to the fact that mommy didn't care.

King Jeremy the wicked, oh, ruled his world.

Jeremy spoke in class today. (x2)

Clearly how I remember picking on the boy.

Seemed a harmless little f*ck. Ooh, but we unleashed a lion.

Gnashed his teeth and bit the recess lady's breast.

How could I forget. And he hit me with a surprise left.

My jaw left hurting. Ooh, dropped wide open.

Just like the day, Oh, like the day I heard.

Daddy didn't give affection, no, and the boy was something mommy wouldn't wear.

King Jeremy the wicked, oh, ruled his world.

Jeremy spoke in class today. (x3)

Who? (x14)

Try to forget this. (try to forget this).

Try to erase this. (try to erase this).

From the blackboard.

Jeremy spoke in class today. (x2)

Jeremy spoke in, spoke in... (x2)

Jeremy spoke in class today.

musical interlude

Angel From Montgomery - performed by Bonnie Raitt

I am an old woman

Named after my mother

An old man is another

Child who?s grown old

If dreams were thunder

Lightning was desire

This old house it would?ve burned down

A long time ago

Make me an angel

That flies from montgomery

Make me a poster

Of an old rodeo

Just give me one thing

That I can hold on to

To believe in this livin?

Is just a hard way to go

When I was a young girl

I had me a cowboy

It wasn?t much to look at

It was a free ramblin? man

There was a long time

No matter how I tried

The years they just rolled by

Like a broken down dance

Make me an angel

That flies from montgomery

Make me a poster

Of an old rodeo

Just give me one thing

That I can hold on to

To believe in this livin?

Is just a hard way to go

There?s flies in the kitchen

I can hear them there buzzin?

And I ain?t done nothing since I woke up today

But how the hell can a person

Go on to work in the morning

To come home in the evening

And have nothing to say

Make me an angel

That flies from montgomery

Make me a poster

Of an old rodeo

Just give me one thing

That I can hold on to

To believe in this livin?

Is just a hard way to go

Under 21 -Save Ferris

The other night I tried to go to a show

But the man at the door

He told me no

He said, "No one under 21 allowed"

But he must have been stupid 'cause I saw my friends in the crowd

He said, "You can't buy an alcoholic drink"

"So we don't care what you really think"

Why's this happened to me

And the show was for free

It sucks to be

Under 21

So I went and got myself a plan that would work

And I went on home and got a real short skirt

And I flirt my way right through that goddamn door

But once inside the music was no more

Well I guess I got there just a bit too late

I guess it's just my luck

It's just my fate

Why's this happened to me

And the show was for free

It sucks to be

Under 21

I only want to have a little fun

But every time I try they tell me "You're not 21"

Homemade - Nicole C Mullen

Riding the city bus on the way to school

Me and my two sisters and all the ridicule

The older girls on the back of the bus

Would laugh and call us names

They'd talk about our hair, our clothes

And call us homemade

See the "not so good ole days"

Can make you weak or make you brave

I've never been the most beautiful

No I ain't never been the most popular

But it's amazing what love can do

It's amazing what a little love can do

Every thought and action is like a boomerang

What goes around will come back baby

So careful what you say

And the little ugly ducklings are swans that got away

Cause Cinderella stories, they still happen everyday

Where the "not so good ole days"

Could make you weak or brave

I've never been the most beautiful

Don't care I've never been the most popular

Still it's amazing what love can do

It's amazing what a little love can do

I bumped into a stranger just the other day

She said "Can you spare a dollar sista?"

"My man he ain't got paid"

So I gave her what I had, then I recognized her face

She was the leader of the girls who used to call us homemade

Back when the "not so good ole days"

Could make you weak or brave

I've never been the most beautiful

I ain't never been the most popular

But it's amazing what love will do

Ain't it amazing what

Homemade love will do

When you consider the prominent role of "Teen Angst" in "rock'n'roll" (in all its guises) over the years, this shouldn't be that hard, yet....tricky one!

The most articulate summary of "growing pains" I can think of, and which is a pretty great song all round, is this:

THE JAM- WHEN YOU'RE YOUNG

Life is timeless, days are long when you're young

You used to fall in love with everyone

Any guitar and any bass drum

Life is a drink and you get drunk when you're young

Life is new and there's things to be done

You can't wait to be grown up

Acceptance into the capital world

You pull on some weed, then you pull on someone when you're young

But you find out life isn't like that

It's so hard to comprehend

Why you set up your dreams to have them smashed in the end

But you don't mind you've got time on your side

And they're never gonna make you stand in line

You're just waiting for the right time

You're fearless and brave - you can't be stopped when you're young

You swear you're never ever gonna work for someone

No corporations for the new age sons

Tears of rage roll down your face

But still you say "it's fun"

And you find out life isn't like that

It's so hard to understand

Why the world is your oyster but your future's a clam

It's got you in its grip before you're born

It's done with the use of a dice and a board

They let you think you're king but you're really a pawn

You're fearless and brave - you can't be stopped when you're young

You used to fall in love with everyone

Any guitar and any bass drum

Any good?

Just the title of the thread made me think of this song I love by a very underrated band, Whipping Boy.

When we were young

When we were young nobody died

And nobody got older

The toughest kid in the street

Could always be bought over

And the first time that you loved

You had all your life to give

At least that's what you said

The first time you got drunk

You drank pernod and dry cider

Smashed a window in as the police came round the corner

You didn't have no time to run

And your dad stood up for you

As the judge said you're a fool

Babies, sex and flagons, shifting women, getting stoned

Robbing cars, bars and pubs, rubber johnnies, poems

Starsky and Hutch gave good TV

And Starsky looked like me

The first time that you stole

You stole rubber lips and tenners

Bought a radio then ran away for ever

Never felt so good, never felt so good with you

When we were young we had no fear

Of love nor sex nor warnings

Everyone was hanging out, everyone was sorted

When we were young nobody knew

Who you were or what you'd do

Nobody had a past that catches up on you

Babies, sex and flagons, shifting women, getting stoned

Robbing cars, bars and pubs, rubber johnnies, poems

Starsky and Hutch gave good TV

And Starsky looked like me

What might have been

What might have been

What might have been

With a start he was awoken

From the middle of a dream

He's making movies in his head

That never will be seen

He's holding Oscars in his hands

And kissing beauty queens

What might have been

What might have been

When we were young

You take the good, you take the bad

you take them both and there you have

the facts of life

the facts of life

There's a time you've got to go

and show, you're growin' and now you know

the facts of life

the facts of life

When the world never seems

to be living up to your dreams

and suddenly you're finding out

the facts of life are all about you.

It takes a lot to get them right

when you're learning the facts of life

learning the facts of life,

learning the facts of life.

Mother told me, yes, she told me I’d meet girls like you.

She also told me, stay away, you’ll never know what you’ll catch.

Just the other day I heard a soldier falling off some indonesian junk that’s going round.

Mommy’s alright, daddy’s alright, they just seem a little weird.

Surrender, surrender, but don’t give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.

Father says, your mother’s right, she’s really up on things.

Before we married, mommy served in the wacs in the philippines.

Now, I had heard the wacs recruited old maids for the war.

But mommy isn’t one of those, I’ve known her all these years.

Mommy’s alright, daddy’s alright, they just seem a little weird.

Surrender, surrender, but don’t give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.

Whatever happened to all this season’s losers of the year?

Ev’ry time I got to thinking, where’d they disappear?

When I woke up, mom and dad are rolling on the couch.

Rolling numbers, rock and rolling, got my kiss records out.

Mommy’s alright, daddy’s alright, they just seem a little weird.

Surrender, surrender, but don’t give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.

Away.

Away.

Great song...bugger to sing though :)
