Weezer - Say It Ain't So

Somebody's Heine' is crowdin' my icebox

Somebody's cold one is givin' me chills

Guess I'll just close my eyes

Flip on the tele'

Wrestle with Jimmy

Something is bubbling

Behind my back

The bottle is ready to blow

Say it ain't so

Your drug is a heartbreaker

Say it ain't so

My love is a lifetaker

I can't confront you

I never could do

That which might hurt you

So try and be cool

When I say

This way is a waterslide away from me that takes you further every day

So be cool

Dear Daddy,

I write you in spite of years of silence.

You've cleaned up, found Jesus,

things are good or so I hear.

This bottle of Steven's

awakens ancient feelings.

Like father, stepfather, the son is drowning in the flood.

here's another look -

Jimi Hendrix - My Friend (lyrics)

Hey, look out for my glass up there, man!

That?s my drink, man, that?s my drink, alright...

Make it a double, or eh...

Somebody has to sing

Some body will sing?

Somebody will sing, right?

(I don?t know!)

Y?all pass me that bottle,

And I?ll sing you all a real song

Yeah!

Let me get my key, ahum!

Well, I?m looking through harlem

My stomach squeal just a little more

A stagecouch full of feathers and footprints,

Pulls up to soap¨box door

Now a lady with a pearl¨handled necktie

Tied to the driver?s fence

Breathes in my face,

Bourbon and coke possessed words

& quot;haven?t I seen you somewhere in hell,

Or was it just an accident? ?

(you know how I felt then, and so:)

Before I could ask ?was it the east or west side? ?

My feet they howled in pain

The wheels of a bandwagon cut very deep,

But not as deep in my mind as the rain

And as they pulled away I could see her words

Stagger and fall on my muddy tent

Well I picked them up, brushed them off,

To see what they say,

And you wouldn?t believe:

`come around to my room, with the tooth in the middle,

And bring along the bottle and a president?

And eh sometimes it?s not so easy, baby

Especially when your only friend,

Talks, sees, looks and feels like you,

And you do just the same as him

(gets very lonely up this road, baby)

(yeah, hmmm, yeah)

(got more to say!)

Well I?m riding through la (huh),

On a bicycle built for fools

And I seen one of my old buddies

And he say, ?you don?t look the way you usually do?

I say, ?well, some people look like a coin-box?

He say, ?look like you ain?t got no coins to spare?

And I laid back and I thought to myself, and I said this:

I just picked up my pride from underneath the pay phone,

And combed this breath right out of my hair

And sometimes it?s not so easy

Especially when your only friend

Talk, sees, looks and feels like you,

And you do just the same as him

Just got out of a scandinavian jail,

And I?m on my way straight home to you

But I feel so dizzy I take a quick look in the mirror,

To make sure my friend?s here with me too

And you know good well I don?t drink coffee,

So you fill my cup full of sand

And the frozen tea leaves on the bottom

Sharing lipstick around the broken edge

And my coat that you let your dog lay by the fire on

And your cat he attacked me from his pill¨box ledge

And I thought you were my friend too

Man, my shadow comes in line before you

I?m finding out that it?s eh not so easy

Specially when your only friend

Talks, looks, sees and feels like you,

And you do the same just like him

(lord it?s so lonely here, hmmm, yeah)

Yeah!

(pass me that bottle over there...)

Yeah, yeah, okay...

here's a good one....talks about his family too, let me know if you like this one....

I drink alone, yeah,

with nobody else

I drink alone, yeah,

with nobody else

You know when I drink alone,

I prefer to be by myself

Every morning just before breakfast,

I don't want no coffee or tea

Just me and good buddy Wiser,

that's all I ever need

'Cause I drink alone, yeah,

with nobody else

Yeah, you know when I drink alone,

I prefer to be by myself

The other night I laid sleeping,

and I woke from a terrible dream

So I caught up my pal Jack Daniel's,

and his partner Jimmy Beam

And we drank alone, yeah,

with nobody else

Yeah, you know when I drink alone,

I prefer to be by myself

The other day I got invited to a party,

but I stayed home instead

Just me and my pal Johnny Walker,

and his brothers Black and Red

And we drank alone, yeah,

with nobody else

Yeah, you know when I drink alone,

I prefer to be by myself

My whole family done give up on me,

and it makes me feel oh so bad

The only one who will hang out with me,

is my dear old granddad

And we drink alone, yeah,

with nobody else

Yeah, you know when I drink alone,

I prefer to be by myself

Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Devil In the Bottle"

Well, there?s a devil in the bottle, staring straight at me

Daring me to reach out, but I know he?s testing me

If I take just one sip, I become that devil?s son

Act a fool, sell my soul before God and everyone

Oh lord, I know, I only hurt the ones I love

I?m walkin? down this dead end road, all alone and by myself

Wish I could blame the whiskey, but I can only blame myself

Running out of chances, and lord that?s such a crime

I got to find the answer before I lose my mind

Oh lord it?s a cryin shame, oh lord I?ve caused so much pain

I only hurt the ones I love

There?s a devil in a bottle that just won?t let me be

So many times I?ve been hurtin? my soul and family

But I got free on the day I fought the

Devil in the bottle

The next time that ol? devil tries to get the best of me

I?ll smash that bottle against the wall and know I?m finally free

There?s a devil in a bottle that just won?t let me be

There?s so many times I let him hurt me

I got free the day I fought the

Devil in the bottle

Devil in the bottle

Devil in the bottle

Robinella and the CCstringband does a song that described me perfectly before I quit drinking a few years ago. It's not really about abuse. Just about the stark hopelessness of being alcoholic. I still identify with it. It's the closest description I've ever seen of what was inside me at that point in my life.

Man Over

by Robinella Contreras

Man Over and lost forever

Man Over and I think he's died

No need to throw the life preserver

He's already drowned himself inside

It started when he found the bottle

and he held it in his hand

And he poured the liquor in his body

and he thought he was a man.

Man Over and lost forever

Man Over and I think he's died

No need to throw the life preserver

He's already drowned himself inside.

Oh that breeze was blowin' steady

The day he went in from the side

And I guess his heart was wet and heavy

From the drinking and the pride.

Did he leap into the the water

or did the wind just blow him down

Well I guess it doesn't matter,

cause he was already drowned.

Man Over and lost forever

Man Over and I think he's died

No need to throw the life preserver

He's already drowned himself inside.

MARGARITAVILLE

Jimmy Buffett

Nibbling on sponge cake, watching the sun bake,

All of those tourists covered with oil,

Strumming my six string, on my front porch swing,

Smell those shrimp, they're beginning to boil.

CHORUS:

Wasting away again in Margaritaville,

Searching for my last shaker of salt,

Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,

But I know it's nobody's fault.

Don't know the reason that I stayed here all season,

With nothing to show but this brand new tattoo,

But it's a real beauty, a Mexican cutie,

How it got here I haven't a clue.

(CHORUS)

Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home,

But there's booze in the blender,

And soon it will render,

That frozen concoction that helps me hang on.

(CHORUS)

Yes, some people claim that there's a woman to blame,

And I know it's my own damn fault.

i love this song!...it's got kind of an upbeat happy beat but the lyrics are kinda sad....

ok, it's doom metal, but don't be "afraid" they don't grunt/scream in it... it's slow and depressing

While heaven wept - the drowning years

These empty years, in sadness repose

What once were joys now have become sorrows

I drank them all away

Once, I held hopes, loves, and dreams... now they've sunken into the sea

And I've no one left to save me from drowning eternally

I drank them all away

I drank myself away

while heaven wept - soulsadness

Sunk into the corner

Where the forlorn drift to die

A broken man stares into his glass

With weeping eyes

Drinking away this empty life

I'm bleeding to death inside

Torn apart by bladed words

In sorrow capsized

I gave myself completely and deeply

But that was never enough for you

More alone than ever,

Your knives have finally pierced on through (my heart)

Drinking away this lonely life

I'm bleeding to death inside

Torn apart by bladed words

In sorrow capsized

Now, I know I will die alone

Cold and broken...

Now, I know Hell is my destiny

You took everything from me... everything...

I am the desolate one

Bleeding

You took everything from me... everything...

Drinking away this waste of life

I'm bleeding to death inside

Torn apart by bladed words

In sorrow capsized

I gave my heart up to your knives

I'm bleeding to death inside

Here you can download the songs

Adema & Linkin park - giving in

Will you, walk me

To the edge again

Shaking, lonely, and I am drinking again

Woke up tonight and no one's here with me

I'm giving in to you

Take me under

I'm giving in to you

I'm dying tonight

I'm giving in to you

Watch me crumble

I'm giving in to you

I'm crying tonight

I'm giving in to you

Caught up, in life

Losing all my friends

Family has tried, to heal all my addictions

Tragic it seems, to be alone again

I'm giving in ... to you

Take me under

I'm giving in to you

I'm dying tonight

I'm giving in to you

Watch me crumble

I'm giving in to you

I'm crying tonight

I'm giving in to you

I look forward, to dying tonight

Drink till i'm myself, life's harder every day

The stress has got me

I'm giving in

Giving

Giving in now!

Take me under

(I'm killing all the pain)

I'm dying tonight

(I'm sick of all this faith)

Watch me crumble

(I'm killing all the pain)

I'm crying tonight

I'm giving in to you

Take me under

I'm giving in to you

I'm dying tonight

I'm giving in to you

Watch me crumble

I'm giving in to you

I'm crying tonight

I'm giving in to you

Take me under

I'm giving in to you

I'm dying tonight

I'm giving in to you

EDIT: Machine head - I'm your god now, goes about all kinds of abuses like alcohol or drugs...

Here's a country song about recovery. It gets to me because my dad is an alcoholic.

Kenny Chesney - That's Why I'm Here

No I ain't had nothing to drink

I knew thats probably what you'd think

If I dropped by this time of night

Remember way back when

I promised you I'd drop in

At one of those meetings down at the Y

Well, they started talkin bout steps you take

Mistakes you make

The hearts you break

And the price you pay

I almost walked away

You could hear a pin drop

When this old man

Stood up and said I'm gonna' say it again

Like I do every week

For those who don't know me

It's the simple things in life

Like the kids at home and a loving wife

That you miss the most, when you lose control

And everything you love starts to disappear

The devil takes your hand and says no fear

Have another shot, just one more beer

Yah, I've been there, that's why I'm here

This ole boy stood up in the aisle

Said he'd been living a life of denial

And he cried as he talked about wasted years

I couldn't believe what I heard

It was my life word for word

And all of the sudden it was clear

It's the simple things in life

Like the kids at home and a loving wife

That you miss the most, when you lose control

And everything you love starts to disappear

The devil takes your hand and says no fear

Have another shot, just one more beer

Yah, I've been there, that's why I'm here

I know for us it may be too late

But it would mean the world to me

If you were there when I stand to say

It's the simple things in life

Like the kids at home and a loving wife

That you miss the most, when you lose control

And everything you love starts to disappear

The devil takes your hand and says no fear

Have another shot, just one more beer

Yah, I've been there, that's why I'm here

Oh, I've been there, that's why I'm here

Also, it's not music, but I'd like to recommend a book to you: Adult Children of Alcoholics by Janet Woititz. I posted a link to her website, which has lots of helpful resources.
