Jim Morrison Film Found

A rare public relations film rock legend Jim Morrison made in the early 1960s has been found by students at Florida State University.

The late The Doors singer made the short film in 1962, while studying film at the university - and he is even featured in it.

The film emphasizes the need for more college-educated Floridians to work in the state's rapidly expanding industries.

that's a link to an excerpt from the promo film made by Florida State

University in 1964; it features Jim Morrison collecting his mail,

learning he's not been accepted for college, and then going to talk with

the Dean about it...

when he collects the mail, it's a voice-over reading his mail, when he's

seated, talking with the Dean, that's the voice of the Lizard

King...

this fun comes from:

Florida State University: Toward a Greater University

This is a public relations film on Florida State University that, in two

brief scenes, features a young Jim Morrison years before his more

recognized role as lead singer for The Doors. The film emphasizes the

need for more college-educated Floridians to work in the state's rapidly

expanding industries. It contains campus, classroom, homecoming parade

and football scenes. Produced by Florida State University.

They were a different type of band in so many ways. No one has sounded like them before or since. Even their look was different. I can listen to something like Light My fire endlessly.

As a matter of fact I did hear it endlessly as a kid. When it first came out and became a big radio hit, it was played all over the place. My parents took us on vacation to a great resort called Wildwood, NJ. Fantastic beaches and boardwalk. Well, the operator on the Himalaya ride played Light My fire at full volume for hours on end. Great stuff.

* Musical Interlude *

You know that it would be untrue

You know that I would be a liar

If I was to say to you

Girl, we couldn't get much higher

Come on baby, light my fire X2

Try to set the night on fire

The time to hesitate is through

No time to wallow in the mire

Try now we can only lose

And our love become a funeral pyre

Come on baby, light my fire X2

Try to set the night on fire, yeah

The time to hesitate is through

No time to wallow in the mire

Try now we can only lose

And our love become a funeral pyre

Come on baby, light my fire X2

Try to set the night on fire, yeah

You know that it would be untrue

You know that I would be a liar

If I was to say to you

Girl, we couldn't get much higher

Come on baby, light my fire X2

Try to set the night on fire X4

i couldnt easily pick a favourite song, i love their songs for different reasons. one of the happiest days was when i got the doors box set, its great cos it has everything but its also incredibly pretty, very well designed!

my best friend and I were so obsessed with him that both out yearbook entries (the bits that say what you will be doing in 20 years) have references to him (apparently i was going to be doing cloning experiments with lizards and humans to create a new lizard king!)

so no one answered, didnt he go to ucla?

I had all the Doors records many years ago... I lost half in a divorce, the other half probably was eaten by a black hole... now too good I still have my "L.A. Woman" album and "13", which I wonder if it´s not a greatest hits... I found the complete collection on cd (all they did during The Doors, not posthumous) at a public library and burned it on three cds. They didn´t have so many songs...

well, the box set has 7 cds plus the greatest hits one with live stuff. i also have the "american prayer" cd, which is basically recited poetry (ok, as i said i was obsessed, i even have one of his poetry books).

I was sure he went to UCLA, cos my aunt also went to UCLA a couple of years after he did, and i was always jealous !

To answer your question about his family life, Morrison very much so despised his family, especially his father (hence the "I want to kill you" part of 'The End') and the whole family being dead thing is a reference to when the Doors first record came out, and in the sleeve there was this biography section of the band, and Morrison had written that his whole family was dead, which was a total untruth, he just hated his family that much.

I know it isn't always cool to love the commercial hits, but Light My Fire does it for me.

Commercial or not commercial, I couldn't care less!! Whatever songs I like are cool to me, no matter if they were big hits or obscure tracks!!! And 'Light My Fire' is a damn fine song!!
