Brand New are a really good band. They've opened for a number of A list acts in the last year and I saw them open for Incubus last summer.

Sic Transit Gloria (glory fades) is their most popular single, and for good reasons too.

Deja Entendu is their latest album:

01. Tautou

02. Sic Transit Gloria&Glory Fades

03. I Will Play My Game Beneath the Spin Light

04. Okay I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't

05. The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows

06. The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot

07. Jaws Theme Swimming

08. Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis

09. Guernica

10. Good to Know That if I Ever Need Attention All I Have to Do is Die

11. Play Crack the Sky

They have also released 2 other albums, Your favourite weapon and Safety in numbers.

Homepage.

Here is their MTV bio:

Formed in Long Island, NY, Brand New appeared in the punk-pop scene in 2000. Consisting of drummer Brian Lane, vocalist/guitarist Jesse Lacey, bassist Garrett Tierney, and guitarist Vin Accardi, the band released its first record, Your Favorite Weapon, in 2001. Deja Entendu, a decidedly matured follow-up, was recorded with Steve Haigler (Pixies, Blake Babies) and released in summer 2003. Both albums yielded music videos on MTV, while earning Brand New slots with A New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Dashboard Confessional, and blink-182.

Brand New aren't a new band, they've been around for a while but I don't think they get much appriciation on these boards. They are an emo band and have released 2 albums that I am aware of, I only have the newer one called "Deja Entendu". Their most popular song that they have released is "Sic Trasit Gloria...Glory Fades".

Their lyrics are amazing.

My favourite songs and lyrics from those songs are:

Okay, I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't

"Coordinate brain and mouth.

Then ask me what it's like to have myself so figured out.

I wish I knew."

"This is war.

Every line is about who I don't wanna write about anymore.

I hope you come down with something they can't diagnose, don't have the cure for.

Holding on to your grudge.

It's so hard to have someone to love.

Keeping quiet is hard.

Cause you can't keep a secret if it never was a secret to start.

At least pretend you didn't want to get caught."

"My tongue's the only muscle in my body that works harder than my heart."

"This is the craze only we can bestow.

This is the price you pay for loss of control.

This is the break in the bend.

This is the closest of calls.

This is the reason you're alone.

This is the rise and the fall."

I Will Play My Game Beneath The Spin Light

"My secrets for a buck.

Watch me as I cut myself wide open on this stage.

Yes, I am paid to spill my guts. I won't see home till spring.

Oh, I would kill for the Atlantic,

but I am paid to make girls panic while I sing."

The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows

" contemplate the day we wed.

Your friends are boring me to death.

Your veil is ruined in the rain.

By then it's you I can do without.

There's nothing new to talk about."

"I lie for only you"

The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot (my favourite song by them)

"And if it makes you less sad, we'll start talking again. And you can tell me how vile I already know that I am. "

"Call me a safe bet, I'm betting im not, glad that you can forgive only hoping as time goes, you can forget"

"And if it makes you less sad,

I'll take your pictures all down.

Every picture you paint,

I will paint myself out.

It's cold as a tomb, and it's dark in your room,

when I sneak to your bed to pour salt in your wounds.

So call it quits or get a grip.

Say you wanted a solution.

You just wanted to be missed."

"You are calm and reposed.

Let your beauty unfold.

Pale white, like the skin stretched over your bones.

Spring keeps you ever close.

You are second hand smoke.

You are so fragile and thin.

Standing trial for your sins.

Holding onto yourself the best you can.

You are the smell before rain.

You are the blood in my veins"(my favourite lyrics ever)

Guernica

"If I could I would shrink myself, sink through

your skin to your blood cells, remove

whatever makes you hurt but

I am too weak to be your cure."

Play Crack The Sky

"Your tongue is a rudder.

It steers the whole ship.

Sends your words past your lips

Or keeps them safe behind your teeth.

But the wrong words will strand you.

Come off course while you sleep.

Sweep your boat out to sea

Or dashed to bits on the reef."

"You know that you are not alone,

I need you like water in my lungs"

Oh yes, Brand New are definitely great! I saw them live as an opening act for Incubus last summer and everyone was singing along and jumping about. Have you seen the video for "sic transit gloria...glory fades" yet Marz? It's kinda wierd!

Jesse Lacey reminds me of Joaquin Phoenix looks-wise ;)

Not only is Deja Entendu incredable, but their first album, Your Favorite Weapon is awesome too. I personally love the songs Jude Law And The Semester Abroad and Magazines off their first album. Also they released a CD with a band called Safety In Numbers in which they had two songs, Am I Wrong and Mashi Mashi. They also have an "unreleased" song floating around called Flying At Tree Level which is particularly great.

Your Favorite Weapon is not as good lyrically as Deja Entendu, but it holds its own musically.

1. The Shower Scene

2. Jude Law and the Semester Abroad

3. Sudden Death in Carolina

4. Mix Tape

5. Failure By Design

6. Last Chance to Lose Your Keys

7. Logan To Government Center

8. The No Seatbelt Song

9. Seventy Times 7

10. Secondary

11. Magazines

12. Soco Amaretto Lime

Before Your Favorite Weapon was a CD with a band called Safety In Numbers. On that CD were the Brand New songs Am I Wrong and Mashi Mashi.
