Hi Guys,

I want to put a CD together for my dad, who's a mad hobby fisherman and a big music fan. I want to collect a CD worth of songs on the subject of boats, fishing, sailing whatever.

Here's a few that I have thought of so far:

Fanfare for the common man - Emerson Lake and Palmer (this will open the CD as it triggers memories of an old TV boating from the 80's which used this as the theme music)

Cool Change - Little River Band

And It Stoned Me - Van Morrison

Sailing - Chrisopher Cross

Sailing - Rod Stewart

Sail Away - Dobie Gray

The Downeaster Alexa - Billy Joel

The Whale - Fielding & Dyer

If "Singing The Dolphin Through" by Manfred Mann's Earth Band wasn't such a crap song I'd use that, so no suggestions for that one please (and before you go off at me all you MMEB fans, I'm a fan too - I just don't like that song ok?)

Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanx

That´s funny, I have a tape with songs a friend of mine had to take when he went fishing... my husband does too, I can´t find that tape but I remember there was "Through my sails" by CS&N... or CNS& Y... I´ll be looking for it today...

Look what I found Googling...http://www.jass.com/tom/next/fishing.html

A few Hawaii tunes:

"Wooden Boat" by Keola Beamer

"Sailin'" by Cecilio & Kapono

"Come Sail Away" (Dennis De Young) by Keali'i Reichel

"No Ka Moku Kiakahi Ke Aloha" by Keali'i Reichel

And others:

"New Hampshire Hornpipe" by Dave Grusin (The kid takes the powerboat for a wild spin scene from "On Golden Pond")

"Out to Sea" by John Williams from "Jaws"

"Boston and St. John's" and "Excursion Around The Bay" by Great Big Sea

And for those who see Space as another kind of sea:

"Star Trek: The Motion Picture Main Theme" by Jerry Goldsmith

"Brandy" by The Looking Glass has a definite maritime feel.

I recently learned that Billy Joel is really into boats, and there are nautical references all over his songs, especially the Storm Front album.

Also:

Fisherman's Blues - The Waterboys

Octopus's Garden - some British group, their name is an insect or something

There's a Fleetwood Mac song called The Bermuda Triangle, but that might be a bad idea.
