~Rocker Deaths~

As time goes on, more and more of our beloved rockers are passing away. I find many rock deaths very interesting because there are many myths and stories behind them. I'm doing a bit of research about the deaths of various artists and was wondering if everyone could help out!

Some Deaths I Could Think Off The Top of My Head:

John Lennon

Jim Morrison

Jon Bonham

Jimi Hendrix

The Boys of Lynyrd Skynyrd

Keith Moon

(may they all rest in peace)

If you have any info on the deaths of these people, or any others i have undoubtabley missed, post it!

I just find it very interesting... :P oh! and who do you think was the worst loss/ most tragic? My vote would be John Lennon or Jon Bonham...

Lynrd Skynrd's members died in a plane crash and apparently Jimi choked on his own vomit while sleeping.

Some other notable rock star deaths include Janis Joplin, who O'D on heroin and Gram Parsons, who binged on alcohol and drugs, but what happened after Gram's death is certainly more interesting than the death itself.

Ever hear that The Average White Band all died in a plane crash? My ass.

That´s not true... Drummer Odeed in 1973, that´s all I know about deaths in the AWB...

Benjamin Orr, bass player of the Cars and the leader of the band along with Ric Ocasek. He died from cancer and that´s a great loss for music.

First off, only three members of Lynyrd Skynyrd along with a road manager.

Ronnie Van Zant (lead vocals) :( :( :(

Steve Gaines (part of the greatest guitar trio ever) :( :(

Cassie Gaines (back-up singer)

Allen Collins died many years later from medical complications.

Leon Wilkeson died a few years ago from medical complications.

Second off, you are missing:

Duane Allman

George Harrison

Toy Caldwell

Tommy Caldwell

John Entwistle

Jerry Garcia

Kurt Cobain

Stevie Ray Vaughn

Ray Charles

And a whole big list of individuals that didn't die from old age.

Absolutelly! That´s an amazing story... his friends (Emmylou too) stole the corpse and that was just the beginning...

John Bonham

On 24 September 1980, Bonham left Worcestershire to meet with the

group at Bray studios for rehearsals for the upcoming US tour.

He consumed a steady diet of quadruple screwdrivers along the way.

After the rehearsals, the band retreated to Page's Windsor house,

where Bonham continued to drink and then passed out. At around

1:45pm on 25 September, sound technician and Plant roadie Benji Le

Fevre checked on Bonham to find out why he hadn't stirred. There

was no pulse. A doctor arrived and pronounced Bonham dead at the

scene. A subsequent coroner's inquest revealed the cause of death

to be accidental -- Bonham choked on his own vomit after drinking

the equivalent of 40 measures of vodka. Alcohol poisoning may

have been involved, but was not positively determined. On

4 December 1980, Led Zeppelin issued the following statement:

"We wish it to be known that the loss of our dear friend and the

deep respect we have for his family, together with the sense of

undivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager, have led us

to decide that we could not continue as we were."

The best drummer ever.

His soul lives on   :drummer:

And Barry Oakley...very intersting how his death paralleled that of his bandmate, Duane Allman.

People Who Died

By Jim Carroll

Teddy sniffing glue he was 12 years old

Fell from the roof on East Two-nine

Cathy was 11 when she pulled the plug

On 26 reds and a bottle of wine

Bobby got leukemia, 14 years old

He looked like 65 when he died

He was a friend of mine

Refrain:

Those are people who died, died

Those are people who died, died

Those are people who died, died

Those are people who died, died

They were all my friends, and they died

G-berg and Georgie let their gimmicks go rotten

So they died of hepatitis in upper Manhattan

Sly in Vietnam took a bullet in the head

Bobby OD'd on Drano on the night that he was wed

They were two more friends of mine

Two more friends that died / I miss 'em--they died

Repeat Refrain

Mary took a dry dive from a hotel room

Bobby hung himself from a cell in the tombs

Judy jumped in front of a subway train

Eddie got slit in the jugular vein

And Eddie, I miss you more than all the others,

And I salute you brother/ This song is for you my brother

Repeat Refrain

Herbie pushed Tony from the Boys' Club roof

Tony thought that his rage was just some goof

But Herbie sure gave Tony some bitchen proof

"Hey," Herbie said, "Tony, can you fly?"

But Tony couldn't fly . . . Tony died

Repeat Refrain:

Brian got busted on a narco rap

He beat the rap by rattin' on some bikers

He said, hey, I know it's dangerous,

but it sure beats Riker's

But the next day he got offed

by the very same bikers

Repeat Refrain; repeat song to Eddie

Marc Bolan (T-Rex) - car crash

Bon Scott - aspirated his own vomit

Jim Croce - plane crash

John Denver - plane crash

I believe the Doobie Brothers' drummer died this week of pneumonia.

There are many, many more of course. As The Righteous Brothers said in their song, "I bet they have a helluva band" in Heaven. :drummer:

addicted, by members I meant not all members. If I had written The members of L.S., I would have meant all members.

Edna, I've never heard Emmylou was in on the heist too.

Has any one heard that Ronnie Van Zandt was supposedly buried in a Neil Young T-shirt in homage to their feud/friendship? Supposedly some idiots dug up his corpse to see if the story was true.
